Yes, that's to bad! when I first purchased my Mac, preview made me vary happy.
It loaded PDF files fast and read them immediately and easily. something
definitely went wrong in the later versions. I haven't yet found anything I
like nearly as well as the earlier versions of preview.

Hi Brian.
Yes, i see the problem with google groups. I do think it's a safari issue
however.
It does work with nvda pretty decent. I do agree, google has to improve
accessibility.
Have a wonderful rest of your day.

Hi Amber
I like mine, which is the braille inch 40. It would work with all the devices
you mentioned. It was originally for windows, but now it works on the Mac and
the iPhone. It also can be a stand-alone device, like for reading BRF files. It
has input keys also. I've been doing reading brf I files today, a book from

Hi there
I tell you where I found a lot of the brill commands. I had bought a book from
national braille press on using the iPhone. In there, I found a list of brown
commands. Most of them work on the Mac as well.
Typing in a document is straightforward. You just start brailling. Space he
is inter, Space D is delete, and

Space plus the G turns grade to translation on and off.

Re: pages inquiry

2012-11-27 Thread Greg Aikens
Hi Robert,
Two tips to help you out:

Use command+T in Pages to pull up the font dialog box. You can then change any
of your font attributes from here.

Use Command+Option+I to open the inspector window for your document. The
inspector has a number of layered tabs you can use to navigate through your
various options. There is a tab for changing text features, including color,
line spacing, tab size, etc.

Using these two strategies I was able to format my papers in APA style in grad
school.

Best of luck,

pages inquiry

2012-11-27 Thread Robert Hooper
Hello:

It's been a long time since anyone on list has heard from me. I am doing well,
although university life keeps me constantly weighed down. Anyway, one of the
few things holding me back from a complete transition from Windows to Mac OS is
Pages-if I could solidly rely on a word processor on the Mac side, I would be
much closer to abandoning Windows and Microsoft Office. So, I have a few
questions.

Recently, I tried to write a sample APA-formatted document. I successfully set
the font, however I ran into a few issues with the rest of the formatting. I
found that when I leave the "body" edit field and return to it, I must press
VO+shift+space to simulate a mouse click before I can type or navigate within
the text field. Also, although some formatting commands work when typing (i.e.
italic toggle, bold toggle, etc.), when I leave the "layout area" and navigate
amongst the various options with Voiceover, everything appears to be dimmed,
including the option to toggle italics, bold, etc. I tried to change the line
spacing and modify other things, but literally everything was dimmed, even the
majority of the options in the menus. I thought that this might be because the
mouse had to be focused in the edit field before changes can be made; I thought
this because keystrokes to turn italics and bold text on and off worked when I
was typing in the body field.
Even after fiddling with some VO cursor tracking options, I still encountered
these issues. So, in short, how does one use Pages? I'm sure I could learn
keystrokes for every action, but I'm out of luck if I go browsing through the
various options, unsure of exactly what I wish to change. I will do some
fiddling, but I would like to get this figured out. Here's what I need to do to
set up an APA-style document.

The font needs to be 12-point and Times New Roman. The document needs to be
double-spaced, with a 0pt "spacing after" option (no extra spacing between
paragraphs). The document needs to have a running header and a plain page
number in the top right corner of each page. All margins must be set to one
inch.
So, how do I do all that? Those are the general guidelines for the initial set
up of an APA-style document. Of course, there are countless rules regarding
writing style, formatting of figures, equations, numbers, abbreviations, etc. I
should note that I don't want a template-a template teaches me nothing; I need
to figure out how to change these settings myself, and build my own template,
if I so desire. I appreciate anyone's input on this matter.
Thanks,
Robert Hooper

ok, when you first open pandora it will start playing the last station that you
were listening to. flick left until you hear, backarrow. double tap there.
then just flick right and you will see all of the stations that you have
created.
you may end up with an advert when you first start as well, in which case you
have to get out of that first. there is usually a done button somewhere that
you can double tap on to get you back into your station.

Just VO-left arrow over to the message headers and interact. Then press

Hi, Ray,

If you're using M L, go into Safari preferences and choose the "autofill" tab.
There's a checkbox that says "user names and passwords." You can also go into
the passwords tab later and review your passwords by checking the box that says
"show passwords."

Firstly, and most importantly, consider switching to slacker radio. I learned
about slacker from this list, and I am been very very happy. However, if you
would like to keep Pandora, this is what you should do: go to where it says
create new station. Under this, there should be a list of the stations that you
have chosen. Simply select one. If you want to change the station, hit the back
arrow.
Christine
PS browsing stations is a bit trickier. Go to the create station edit box, then
go to the keypad underneath. Slide your finger very gently that the left and
up. It should say browse genre stations. This sometimes takes two or three
tries.

Re: Mactubes

2012-11-27 Thread Cheryl Homiak
No, it really doesn't have to be that complicated.

First of all, read the help tags for your buttons and label them.
Secondly, there is no need to put the url in unless you don't want to do a
search. Just search and start playing. when you find the one you want to
download, do vo-shift-m on the player menu button (I don't remember whether or
not I had to label it but you can find out what it is using the help tags. In
the menu will be a download option with options for your download format.

Hth.

RE: a note on running a Mini with no monitor

2012-11-27 Thread Jeff Bishop
Have you considered a fresh install of the operating system to see if that
resolves the situation with the monitor connected by chance? You may have
already but I didn't see it in the emails I read thus far, sorry if you tried
already.

Hello Mike and all,
As you suggested, Mike, I opened up system information.app and my Mac Mini
shows that it has a monitor connected. It's the same monitor that was connected
before I tried running without one. I am totally at a loss. Today when I
rebooted the system it ran even poorer than it did yesterday. Even with just
finder running, it is slow and the speech can't say a single sentence without
breaking up.

Re: Mactubes

2012-11-27 Thread Jane
It definitely *is* possible to download videos from MacTubes. It takes
fiddling, but it *is* doable.

You have to put in the URL for the video and start it playing, Then you have to
find the first unlabeled button to the right of the playing video then hit
control-option-shift-m and arrow down till you hear "download submenu" then hit
right-arrow and arrow down to the video format you want. I tend to use MP4.

Then watch the slider to the right until it says 100% and the video will be
ownloaded.

Interesting. Maybe they finally fixed it. Can you check in "About This
Mac" and then "More Info" and note what model it reports? Would be nice
to finally say that Mac Minis after xyz date no longer have this issue.

Re: a note on running a Mini with no monitor

2012-11-27 Thread Kliphton Miller
Okay, I don't know if this is because I had my mini custom built, that this
might make a difference. But I have no monitor hooked up, no HDMI or VGA cable
hooked up, and I experience no lag in my system what so ever. I have the
latest model, the one that apple just released late October of this year. I
did have to hook it up to a monitor for anishal setup, but after setup was
complete, I unplugged it from the monitor, and moved it to another room, and
have had no issues.

Re: Memory upgrade

2012-11-27 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi there
I have a question. I have a MacBook Pro that I bought in 2011; a 13 inch one.
Would it help with numbers with large files situation if I were to get more
memory? Or, does it have nothing to do with that?
Regards Gigi

Re: Mactubes

2012-11-27 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi,

another way to download is to route your mouse cursor to the results table and
press CTRL + click on your trackpad without having Trackpad Commander on. Then
you also have the context menue where you can choose download.
Just in case you don't want to start the video first.

All the best

 Hi,
Can someone confirm that it is definitely not possible to download audio
from YouTube videos using MacTubes? I can play videos fine.
I can't see any options for it in the programme, and I know YouTube
clamped down on converting its videos into mp3 a while ago.
I thought I might be overlooking something. Thanks.
