Re: Easier way, if any, to record VoiceOver in conjunction with your mic in Audio Highjack Pro?

2013-09-22 Thread Michael Babcock
You can't do just audio that i know of; but i haven't explored the settings
that much, however you could use audio hijack pro to hijack the audio from
quicktime for say, and play the video in quicktime to get the audio from the
video into an mp3 file, if you want… just a suggestion.

2013-09-22 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

What I do is hijack my mic, then hijack my system session and use a Apple
script to start recording them simultaneously. Then, I take the 2 files, paste
them into garageband then export them as 1 file.

Easier way, if any, to record VoiceOver in conjunction with your mic in Audio Highjack Pro?

2013-09-22 Thread Daniel Miller
Hello,

I’m wondering if there’s an easier way to record Voiceover in conjunction with
your mic in Audio Highjack Pro? I attempted to follow a guide someone posted on
Applevis a while back, but to be brutally honest, it wasn’t exactly the easiest
thing to figure out due to all the unnecessary wording/BS.
That method involved using programs called Sound Flower and Line in and
highjacking both sessions once you’ve set up everything.
I honestly couldn’t get through the guide without my brain wanting to
spontaneously combust inside my head. lol.
Does anyone have any alternatives? Rogue Amoeba really disappoints me, since
you can record VO and your mic in Nicecast, but not in AHP.

Re: finally made peace with the ITunes library system

2013-09-22 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

You should be able to trust both. In your Usage summary, double-tap on the
Videos item to get more details about what actually resides on your iPhone.
For example, my Music says that I have about 9 GB on my iPhone, but when I
double-tap on the Music item within the Usage area, I can learn that I have 6
GB of music and about 3 GB of Audio books. That may give you more info as to
your quandary.

Okay,

Well, in part thanks to IOS 7 and in fact t thanks to it having broken a third
party app I used to use to transfer my music to my Iphone, I have, at last,
made peace with the ITunes library system and need now only to refine my
tagging. I'm using the new view which, frankly, I really like. But one thing
puzzles me. How can it be that when I read my phone's capacity information, I
am told I have 4GB of video when, manually checking my phone, I noticed that I
have buttons to download all the video material I bought from ITunes but, in
fact, the videos seem not to be on my phone? Am I going crazy? How can I
really tell whether or not ITunes Vido material, (consisting of one movie and
15 TV episodes) is actually on my phone? And, if not, how can I trust the
report I'm getting back about the capacity of my Iphone 5 and how much I really
do have on it?

Sent from my mac, the only computer with full accessibility for the blind

Hi,

Can't recall if this was mentioned yet. If you set your iPhone to Push and/or

Yesterday, I barely used it and I had to charge it twice. I am using

IPad. The only problem is that his files were written in Word Perfect.
Any ideas?

Hi,

it can be found in the control center, and in the share button of whatever app
you happen to be using that supports the feature.

If you have enabled Airdrop, you can transfer data from some of the apps
that have sharing ability such as Contacts and Safari.

Re: AirDrop in iOS 7?

2013-09-22 Thread Daniela Rubio
Hi!
Airdrop appears when you want to share something like picture or a document.
You just select the person who you want to send the file from a list and tab on
it, then the file you are sharing goes to that person. It is really cool.

Re: how to create folders in iOS7?

2013-09-22 Thread Cait and Maggie
Hi Danielle,
You have to put apps on top of one another, just as before. The trick is that
sometimes you have to hold them there for a little while before the folder is
created. I'm finding that you also have to have a light touch on the screen,
this for me, seemed to work better then really pushing down.

Ripping a dvd using handbrake.

2013-09-22 Thread Jessica Moss
I did a google search on how to rip a dvd using handbrake, and found a whole
list of instructions on how to do this, only for half the buttons/tabs they
listed to be seemingly inaccessible, unless someone knows something about it I
don't. I couldn't find the preset to convert it to a format to play the file
on my IPHone, so when I did finally manage to get the thing to encode, it
ripped it to an m4v file, which I've never even heard of, and it automaticly
opens in vlc, but won't play.
Can someone please help out here?

far as to make a Genius Bar appointment. Lo and behold! I was informed that it
was a card. This card has a little switch on it that I knew nothing about.
Every single time I put it into my computer, the little switch thing got
changed. I have never had this happen before until I got this new card.
Nowadays I have to pay attention how I put the card in. If my computer doesn't
recognize it, I have to take the card out and mess with that little switch
thing and put it back. It's most annoying at times, but it was my car that was
the problem.

Gigi

Re: AirDrop in iOS 7?

2013-09-22 Thread Edward Green
Hi Mark,

Airdrop lets you transfer things between Apple devices. The version for iOS
will only let you transfer between other Airdrop-enabled iOS devices.

If you have enabled Airdrop, you can transfer data from some of the apps that
have sharing ability such as Contacts and Safari.

Cheers,

AirDrop in iOS 7?

2013-09-22 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
Hi folks.

Just like it says, I'm wondering how to use airdrop in iOS 7? I do not have
dropbox, but I assume this is a different app? This is filesharing between
contacts, I assume, but I see no way to place files in an airdrop queue
similar to drop box.

Thanks for all the information. I like iOS 7 in general, especially since I
have Siri, and the keyboard itself is very much speeded up.

Be well.

Voiceover User in Toronto Needed for Video on Friday, September 27

2013-09-22 Thread Kevin Shaw
Hello listers,

Please forgive the quasi-related posting, but I need your help.

I'm the founder of a tech startup in Toronto, Canada and we're shooting a
short, corporate video this Friday, September 27 in the afternoon.

I'm looking for a strong Voiceover user to use a Macbook Pro and possibly an
iPad to demonstrate our product. You'll receive some instruction on using the
product and the shooting should take no longer than 3 hours. We will be
shooting in downtown Toronto on the campus of Ryerson University.

I'm a Voiceover user myself, but I'd prefer to not be in the video.

You should be comfortable browsing the web in Safari. We will provide snacks
and a modest stipend for your time. The qualifying participant will be required
to sign a standard non-disclosure agreement.

If you have a firm handle on Voiceover, are a joy to work with and can help us
out this Friday, please get in touch by emailing me off list at
mr.kevins...@me.com. Please don't use my gmail address, it's just for the
MacVisionaries list and i never check it. I'll provide more details to the
qualifying participant.

Thank you kindly, and I look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,
Kevin Shaw

Actually, you can shortcut this process a bit. Restart the Macboook air and
hold down command r. Wait a couple of minutes, then press command f5 to start
VoiceOver. Everything else is quite easy.

Re: Question about mail in IOS7

2013-09-22 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Just choose Archive. GMail likes to identify things differently and Archiving
is similar to Trashing anyway. the Archive function removes the eMail but
GMail servers will archive these messages for about 30 days then automatically
remove them from Archive.

HTH.

Re: Restoring a Macbook Air to Factory Defaults

2013-09-22 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi Jonathan,

Yes, the process is accessible. I assume you won't need the details below, but
I'm writing them down for anyone interested.
If you start up your mac and you hear the initial sound right after turning it
on, then press and hold both command and the letter r while the sound is still
playing. Hold for some 5 seconds and then let go. The mac will boot from its
hidden recovery partition, instead of its normal boot partition. It depends on
a few factors how long it takes to boot, but after 30 seconds or so, just start
pressing VO plus f5 with an interval of a few seconds, until VoiceOver comes
on. It should not take longer than 3 minutes on a slow machine. You won't hear
Alex, it will be Fred. You can now take it from there.

Fred will speak very quietly, but you can crank it up a little bit using the
normal mac volume control with f12 or fn f12, and also the usual voice controls
will work as well if you hold down command, then going to volume using left or
right arrows, and then increasing volume with the up arrow key.

You'll see an interactable table with some choices, one of which is to
reinstall OS10.
If you prefer, you could first wipe the Macintosh HD partition using disk
utility. Disk utility is in the interactable table as well.

If you have an SSD drive and you did not encrypt your drive, then there is a
good chance that some of your stuff is still somewhere on the drive.

This is of course true for a normal hard disk if you just wipe out its
partition table, but even more so for an SSD, because of a mechanism called
wear leveling. What that means is that if you, for example, were using your
SSD for just a few files, wipe it, rewrite a few files, wipe it etc, you would
only use the first bit of memory on the SSD. Because those chips have a finite
number of writes, it would wear out the first bit of the drive, and render it
unusable rather quickly. To overcome this, new SSD's have wear leveling, where
new stuff is written to new locations on the SSD all the time. This means that
we as a user, cannot tell where specific stuff is being stored on the SSD,
making it impossible to wipe out stuff on an SSD, as you would from a
traditional hard drive. I got this bit of useful knowledge from Steve Gibson
and Leo Laporte's podcast: security now. Their advice: when you start using a
new SSD, make sure encryption is on before you add your personal stuff.

Also, Don't forget to unauthorize your old machine from itunes before
reinstalling it, and if I remember well, there are a few other useful steps to
take when selling or giving away an older mac. Apple has an article on it.

With a macbook air, I would like to warn you for a situation that I ran into,
while helping someone else do it over facetime. I only experienced the
following just once.

First a note on wifi. After you boot from the recovery partition, you'll have
to connect to wifi, but the status menus are not available with voiceover. The
wifi stuff is indeed available to us, but it is in the normal pulldown menus, I
think it was under utilities. Once connected, you should be able to proceed
normally, and accessibly.

Should, because here came the problem. You have to give your Apple ID to have
the mac check for its eligibility to redownload the OS. Even though the ID was
cprrect, we were hitting continue forever. The button did not go disabled as
you would expect, so then you want to hit it again. However, things would not
advance from then on, and she had to take her machine into an Apple store to
have it fixed. Unfortunately, they did not explain how they fixed it, so I
can't tell you either.

However, on my machine, I never had a problem reinstalling OS10. Hope that
helps.

Paul.

Restoring a Macbook Air to Factory Defaults

2013-09-22 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi everyone, I normally don't mind experimenting with things but I am a bit
chicken to take this one on without asking for people's experiences.
I have just upgraded from a 2012 Macbook Air to a 2013, and want to restore my
old machine to the state it originally came in, IE erase all my data and leave
a fresh copy of the OS on the system.
I've read about starting the Mac while holding the option key and selecting the
recovery partition. My question is, is this an accessible process? If so, at
what point can I turn VoiceOver on? Is it just a case of pressing down-arrow,
then return, to get to the recovery partition? Any help, or a URL that explains
all this from a blindness perspective, would be very much appreciated. Thanks a
lot.
