Actually it's simpler than that. Find the app in the Applications folder
then press command-delete to move to trash.

Hi all,

this with VoiceOver? I feel silly, but I can't find an equivalent command and
this isn't addressed in the VoiceOver getting started guide.

Many thanks,

Re: odd voice over question revisited?

2014-08-13 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

If you have access to a sighted person, try going into your VO Utility with
VO-f8 and then make sure that the Mute Speech item is not checked in the Sound
pane. I don't remember specifically the name of the pane in the Leopard
version of VO, so, it could be under Speech or something else, you may need to
have them look through the various panes to check some of that out.

HTH.

Hi,

Another method for this is to go under the Edit menu to Substitutions and look

The caps lock key doesn't work in fusion. I use sharp keys, and used the
grave key for the jaws key. As for the applications key, you have to remap
your keys, I use the right command key whitch would be the right alt key in
windows. HTH

Hello,
I'm running windows on fusion but don't seem to have the applications key.
Maybe I can use shift + f10 instead.

I'm using an apple wireless keyboard and the Carabiner and Seil utilities to
remap the caps lock key to behave as the insert key in windows.

Go into settings, choose general, accessibility, VoiceOver.
Swipe down to the roter settings and double tap.
There is a sounds option you can enable that will show up in the router which

Uninstalling App Store apps via the Launch Pad

2014-08-13 Thread Grant Hardy
Hi all,

Like iOS, I understand that to uninstall an app downloaded via the Mac App
Store, one should hold down on an app's icon until all the apps start to
jiggle, then click on the the delete (X) button to uninstall it. How do you do
this with VoiceOver? I feel silly, but I can't find an equivalent command and
this isn't addressed in the VoiceOver getting started guide.

Many thanks,

Grant

It did find viruses oddly enough, in a couple of copies of 32 bit installers

Thanks for the recommendation.

any words that sound odd to you with Alex?

2014-08-13 Thread Daniel McGee
Hi all, yesterday I received an email from the apple accessibility team.
This email I wrote in regards to the word 'rather' as it sounded to me that
this particular word seems to cut off the beginning so it would sound like
there was no letter R to accenuate the word. I hope this makes sense.
In any case, they asked me to provide an example with this word in a sentence
to still see if its occurring I guess. Would anyone of you good people kindly
write back something with this word in a context of whatever sentence you like
so that I can see if it is still happening. Also, what are your thoughts? Is it
just me with this word or are any of you of the same opinion that this word
doesn't quite sound write when reading or writing it.
In my email, they say that there engineers are "reviewing voices." This got me
thinking so while we're on the topic of words that may not quite sound write to
your ears, it maybe a good idea sending in your own experiences with certain
words that you feel may need improving on just so that we can get our voices
that we listen to day in and out the best quality we possibly can.

I will be honest, I have completely forgotten about sending in this email and
had to think about what they were asking me to supply them with. Lets just say
that when I sent it, it was around the days of Lion and 7.2 or 3 back then I
believe because at the time I was somewhere between those versions 7.3 having
not been long out when I sent this particular email. So it just goes to show
you, that they do get back to you even when you have forgotten about it
yourself. lol

I of course, mean this in a good way though. As they say, better late than
never.

Hello there
Actually, although it appears on the display as a question mark or a th sign,
VoiceOver actually says m dash or if you do it again it will say horizontal
bar. I think this is a bug in braille displaying.

My Braille Edge 40 actually converts two occurrences of double dash as the word
his. Go figure. That's even weirder.

When you go over it, does VO say horrizontal bar? If it does, I think you can

Yes, it should, if the TV is on and you've got it receiving the Mini's
signal. You may have to select the right port on your TV if you have a
choice of selectable video sources, but this is TV-specific. Long and
short: if people can see your Mac desktop on the TV, then it's working.

Actually, Jonathan, it might be worth your while to write a book about the

 Hi Jenine,

I've had difficulties myself as well, and I found out how to get things
 going.
To batch process files in amadeus pro, do the following.

First, fire up amadeus and to begin with, hit command shift n to open the
batch processor. The layout of the window is actually simple, once you
understand the basics. There are 4 tabs: format, actions, meta data and
artwork. For now, forget about the last 2. If you just want to batch
convert, then only the format tab is important. By default, after you open
the batch processor, you will already be inside the format tab, so skip
 all tab stuff for now.

Next, you will want to select the files to work on. However, even though
this is the logical way of doing it, you first need to set a number of
options. This is because once you have selected your source files, amadeus
will immediately begin cranking away, without you having the chance to set
conversion options first. So, first set options, and then hit select files.
 Let's go through the options.

Resulting format is the first option you need to set. Just select your
desired destination format from this popup menu, like mp3, m4a etc. To be
clear: this is what you want your source files to become, once amadeus
 converted them.
Once the destination file format is chosen, use the button next to the
format chooser, to specify your settings. For example, say you want your
source files, in whatever format they are now, to be converted into mp3
files, with a bitrate of 256. Then first select mp3 from the resulting
format menu, and then hit the settings button next to it, so you can
select 256 kilobits for your resulting mp3 files. There's a whole lot more
to know, but this will get you started. After you choose your desired
bitrate, or other destination file options from the settings dialog, be
sure to hit okay there, and you will return to the amadeus batch processor.

The next option in the batch processor is called destination location. In
short, this is straight forward. The popup has a few preset folders for
you to choose from, but of course you can also point to a folder of your
own choice. Again: this is the folder where you want your converted files
 to go.

Next option is delete original. This is a checkbox. If you are totally
sure that your batch processor conversion options are correct, which take
some experience, only then would I advise you to turn this thing on. If
you find that you are satisfied with your converted files, you can always
delete your source files manually, so that you are in control.

Next is: change name to. I never use this, and now that I'm looking at it
again, I wouldn't bother. Same goes for filter files, which is the next
option, and I'd also not worry about entering regular expressions.

Next is: open subfolders recursively. This affects your selection of
source files. With this checkbox off, only files, single files from 1
folder that you select, will be converted. With this checkbox on, all

Creating the Section Symbol on a Mac

2014-08-13 Thread Mike Busboom
Hi.

I recently received a text in German which I need to translate into English.
In the German text, the Section symbol appears frequently and will need to
appear equally frequently in the English translation. Can someone tell me how
to create the Section symbol on a Mac? I am using an American keyboard layout.

If the process is complicated, I would also need to create a macro, something
which I don't know how to do. So perhaps if you could also point me to
easy-to-understand documentation on creating keyboard macros, this would be
great, too.

Many thanks,

Mike
