Re: Voice Over not saying the letter c

2015-03-02 Thread Alex Hall
Not specifically, but some people seem to find that certain letters don't get
spoken. For a while, it was w and e for me, someone else never hears the letter
i, and so on. No one is sure why, and in my case, making a FaceTime call
through my iPhone on the Mac solved it, as crazy as that sounds.

The image there is of the Share button. Tap Share, as though you wanted to text

the workflow should be on the Home Screen.

Re: Did something really stupid: spilled lemonade on my MBA

2015-03-02 Thread Alex Hall
The problem here is that it's lemonade, not just water. That means the
potential for sticky residue in the machine, which might explain the fan making
so much noise. Honestly, the best idea is to have it looked at by Apple, or an
Apple-certified technician.

Re: Calendar on the Mac once again.

2015-03-02 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

If you VO space on the date then VO left to the checkbox and uncheck it, that
will make it so it is no longer an “All Day” event, thus, giving you the
ability to modify the times. To make your life easier, I’d suggest that you
enter the event with a start time if you know it. So, for example, you could
enter “Meeting with Sam tomorrow at 11 am” then press return. Calendar will
figure out what date tomorrow means and you can modify the end time or start
time later. Calendar will also title the event as “Meeting with Sam” for you.
If you’re not sure how to edit specific areas within the event info window, try
using VO-space and it usually works.

Later...

Re: work flow app question

Well, I can say yes to both of your questions. The app is currently $2.99 and
it already has some work flows people have shared in the Gallery to do things
like take a photo and automatically upload it to Facebook or Twitter.

I’m playing with the workflow to put text on top of a photo and send it out.

As someone has suggested, place the unit into rice. I needed to do this a while

mentioned to leave the device in rice covered for 2-3 days and not to turn it

hard not to touch the MBA, but you want to have the best shot in having minimum

Hi there,
Just a wandering through the room thought. Some providers block this
application. If yours does that might be the issue?

work flow app question

2015-03-02 Thread Jenine Stanley
I’m loving the work Flow app but do have one question.

I created a work flow that will allow me to quickly record a video and save it
to the camera role. As I understand it, these workflows can then be put on the
home screen. When I try this, I am sent to a web page with what appear to be
instructions to tap on the image at the bottom of the page then tap on Add to
Home screen, then tap Add.

This doesn’t produce anything on my phone’s home screen. I thought maybe it
meant the app home screen which, yes, this work flow appears on with its icon.

anyone have a clue here? I’d love to have this work flow on the home screen of
my phone as it would be really nifty to just double tap and voila! a video is
set to record and all I need to do is double tap on the Start Recording button.

Thanks.

I loved the little demo/tutorial Alex did for applevis on this app. Now I just
need to figure out more things to do with it.

Re: Did something really stupid: spilled lemonade on my MBA

2015-03-02 Thread Faisal ali
Hi,
This works for phones but still worth a shot for a computer. I would put the
computer in a sac of rice and maybe let it sit over night. the rice will help
suck off all the liquid.
If this doesn’t work, there are no other real solutions. Even if you have Apple
care, they will not repair your mac as it was “accidental” damage and according
to the apple care terms for a mac, repairs do not cover accidental damage.
your only real solution is getting it sent in to get repaired. Depending on the
extent of your damage, this can be pretty expensive.

Hey all,
I spued a good bit of lemonade today, and some ended up on my almost brand new
Mac. I shut the machine down, dried it with paper towels, and let it sit.
However, all that will happen when I try to turn the machine on is a lot of
noise from the fan. Any suggestions? Already really beating myself up over
this. This machine is my baby.

Re: input monitoring on garage band please help

2015-03-02 Thread Phil Halton
I just looked around in GB10 and see that there was a monitor button in the
track headers, but you probably already know that. Might it be a problem with
your sound card? By the way, what are you using for a sound card? If monitoring
is gone in GB under both OS’s where it used to be available in Mavericks, then
I’d start looking in the hardware somewhere.
wish I could help more but I don’t use GB anymore.

Re: the Burn app

2015-03-02 Thread Paul Erkens
The burn app burns either an audio or a data CD. Problem with audio CD’s I
found, is that it creates clicks between tracks when you play back the CD on a
normal CD player. This happens if thelength of the input wave files is not a
multiple of the CD sector size. So in short, it burns. You can rip using
itunes, or something like max.app.

Kind regards,
Paul.

Hello Phil,

I was reluctant to buy KNFB Reader because I’ve had a lot of success with both
Prizmo and TextGrabber. But when KNFB Reader was available with a 25% reduction
around Christmas, I treated myself to it and was amazed at how easy it is to

works fine with that.

KNFBReader pre-purchase question

2015-03-02 Thread Phil Halton
After listening to Mike Hanson’s podcast on KNFBReader, I’m about to take the
$100 plunge (ouch!). I’ve read the AppleVis forum and blog, and listened to
podcasts, and now I’m asking for the experience of listers.

I have a iPhone 5 (not 5S), running the latest IOS 8.x. How is the app
performing on this platform?

$100 is a lot for an iPhone app and I just want to make sure I’m not going to
get hosed. I use ABBYY FineReaderPro, but having a good scanning option on the
iPhone would be a real plus especially since it can do some computer screen
scanning as well.

I am having problems with face time on my mac.

I’ve gotten several calls on my i phone and using face time doesn’t work. I

How do I fix this?

My i phone and mac are on the same wifi network.

AppleScript and TimeMachine

2015-03-02 Thread Jonathan C Cohn
TimeMachine uses the System Preference pane to control it, and there is useful
information in the system control pane like Disk size and backup status.

So we could probably find the “id” string of the time machine preference panel,
and then go from there. I know I saw a script in the UI Elements folder called
Get User Name that retrieves information from the Users preference pane so that
could be a starting point.

Re: Creating a keyboard shortcut for checking the time.

2015-03-02 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi there
Another way is to get an Apple script file. I have one that Alex gave me, and I
can now press the right option key and the letter t to hear date and time. You
have to tell VoiceOver to use Apple scripts in the VoiceOver utility for it to
work.

You don’t need to create it. Simply make sure that keyboard commander is turned
on and go. To do this, press VO-F8 to get to VO utility, go down to commanders
in the categories, then selected keyboard commander in the tabs and vo across
