They talked about the changes in the keyboard. They also talked about the trackpad and how you can press on it differently to do scrolling. The new MacBook Pros are going to have some of this too. For those partially sighted among us, the keyboard is going to have LEDs under all the keys. They also talked about more battery life for the MacBooks. They talked about programs for the iPhone and health research for things like Parkinson's disease and diabetes. It was explained how the sensors on the phone would communicate to researchers the information for them to gather data. Apple won't get the information. They talked a whole lot about the Apple Watch. A lot of what they said about the Apple Watch we heard the last time. We have, by the way, a new update to the iPhone, version 8.2. It adds for you to pair with your Apple Watch when it comes out in April. I did notice that again Siri did open her speakers and respond when the presenter held up the Apple watch and said Hey Siri. So I still haven't heard it talk yet. If I am in North Park Mall after April whatever, I'll check it out and let you guys know, unless of course, someone else finds out sooner. Re: Apple's keynote yesterday
Interesting that their demos using Siri had no speech. Maybe this is something they haven't worked out yet. All other demos of Siri that I recall always had her speaking back. Of course their tagline was glances so you glance at the watch face to read something quickly. Having Siri babble on might have detracted from their glance idea. To Doug, and others interested in the Vario Ultra
Hi all, I just wanted to pass along some info from my visit with Baum at CSUN, for those who are interested in the Vario Ultra braille display. First some comments re form factor. It is really as small and light as they say, it's pretty amazing. And the braille is very crisp. All in all, I was quite impressed with the unit. I spoke with Niels Van Wheele about the issues that Doug brought up on the list here. He said that the problems Doug mentioned have been fixed and that the solutions are currently being tested. He stated that a software update will be released in two weeks that will fix those issues. He also said that the update will contain drivers for the Mac, in addition to the drivers for IOS, which it already contains.. Just wanted to pass this information along in case it is helpful. Re: How do I Access My Favorites in the New Radium Update for the Mac
I heard back from catpigstudios support and they said they would label the favorites list button in a future update. They also explained the purpose of the grid that comes up when pressing the unlabeled button in a station block. The grid contains around 20 unlabeled buttons which are for changing the icons for the search category genres. in other words, it is irrelevant for our purposes. Re: Apple's keynote yesterday
Hello Donna The first thing they talked about was the AppleTV. It's going to have HBO added to it now. I forgot when is going to come available. Next, as far as I can remember, they talked about the MacBook. It's going to be lighter and the keyboard is going to come out to the very edges of it. I suppose this keynote is now on the web site. Gigi Sent from my iPhone On Mar 10, 2015, at 7:21 AM, Donna Goodin doniado...@me.com wrote: Hi Gigi, Can you share some highlights? As Chris mentioned, you’re sending a message to a Distribution Group, of which you are a member. The difference with Gmail, is that they’ve set up their protocol in a fashion that you do not receive eMails that were initiated by you. In most cases, this seems fine, but I have had quite a number of people complain to me about that since they liked to send eMails to themselves via CC or bcc so they had a copy, but they’d never get them. There are work arounds for that but, I guess, it’s a matter of preference. Later... RE: Apple's keynote yesterday
Maybe it is done so it is not intrusive to others like a group of blind people and one checks the talking watch for the time and then they all do it and everyone has to listen to it. So she does not speak so others do not have to hear her. Maybe this is something they haven't worked out yet. All other demos of Siri that I recall always had her speaking back. It's going to have HBO added to it now. I forgot when is going to come available. Next, as far as I can remember, they talked about the MacBook. It's going to be lighter and the keyboard is going to come out to the very edges of it. I suppose this keynote is now on the web site. Another thing I noticed, which was really nice, was that voiceover was saying all the little caption things. So when they had a silent music playing film, voiceover was saying all the things that were coming up on the screen. Not all of them were necessary, but it still was interesting that it was happening and a nice touch. Re: Getting my own messages on lists
Hi, That is the nature of Gmail and a few other providers that I can’t recall. As Chris mentioned, you’re sending a message to a Distribution Group, of which you are a member. So, when the eMail server sends the message back out to the members of the Distribution Group, you receive it just like all the other members. Later... Re: Disabling the Document Pane in Office Word 2016 Preview?
I'm a bit confused. If you disable the document payne, wouldn't that then make it even more? inaccessible? You say the edit field is under it. So, if you get rid of it, wouldn't that then make the edit field go bye bye if that's the case? Or by under it, do you mean more under the hood, it's coded! under the document payne? Don't worry. I'm an extremely advanced Voiceover user, and I also definitely do understand very very basic programming concepts, so you can speak jargon with me. Don't worry about the advanced lingo. You now have me very very curious though. I uninstalled the preview as to me, it looked no better than 2011, which is a crying shame! Cheree Heppe here: I got an upgrade to a Baum Pronto a the start of 2014. I like the Pronto's key layot and portable size. However, the Pronto sorftware seems clumsy and convoluted and some of their help documents seem patronizing to blind techniques. I have not even achieved basic usability with this Pronto 18. I thought that I could use it to take notes, interface with the I-devics and so on. I am definitely feeling that the physical form factor of the device is ery good but the software is about the opposite. I am sorry I spent my money in that direction now. Regards, Cheree Heppe P.S. Re: How do I Access My Favorites in the New Radium Update for the Mac
Phil, I got a response today from the developer and since they will not support older OSs I will try these settings and see if they wil do it for me. I am not in a rush to upgrade to Yosemite so this will do for now. And there is always iTunes Radio too. Thanks for pointing out the settings. From The Believer. . . Hi, Maybe I’m misunderstanding things here, but, if you disable the Document pane, then you are removing the container where the text is being held. Would that not, therefore, make the text disappear, or, at least, inaccessible? Wordpress.com mystery
Hello, all: For the past hour or so, I have been attempting to get onto wordpress.com. I cannot load the main site, my blog, or any other blogs I read on the site. I have even tried searching through Google. The URL’s come up, but nothing on the site will load. I checked with a few people who say they are having no trouble. This is happening on both my iPhone using the wordpress app and Safari, and on my MacBook Air. I am having no trouble reaching any other web sites. Any thoughts/suggestions? TIA. Christine P.S. I have rebooted both the computer and phone, have cleared my history and signed out, then back into, the app, to no avail. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Disabling the Document Pane in Office Word 2016 Preview?
Hello, I took a look at this again. I interacted with the Document pane, but there is no access to the edit text that has been process. VO did not echo character, word, or both and there I couldn’t get any navigation with VO to work. I knew that there was words processed because when I tabbed to the word count it stated 15 words. The unlabeled button to the right of that activates the spell checker. I have sent MS feedback about the issues regarding VO accessing the document pane edit field. If others are finding the same, it takes a village to get someone to look at the problem and maybe have a chance that it will be fixed. JMO. Re: Disabling the Document Pane in Office Word 2016 Preview?
Hi Chris, I would love to use Pages, but I am a recent Mac user of 1-1/2 years and I need Word for my business. Not that I’m opposed to learning a new word processor, but when one has used a piece of software for many years, I am more productive and less time is wasted in attempting to figure out some formatting or use of styles that are not apparent to a new user. I was trying not to have to install Win 8.1 into BootCamp, but I guess I will have to bite the bullet. I still wrote to Microsoft. This is a beta, so maybe they will get it right this time. Re: Wordpress.com mystery
OK, go into terminal. If you're using Yosemite, type the following command: sudo discoveryutil mdnsflushcache If you're on Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion, type the following command instead: sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder If on Snow Leopard, which is doubtful, but just in case, the command is: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache Make sure all browser windows are closed before doing this. Also note that you'll have to supply your administrator password. Once done, quit Terminal, reopen your browser, then try again. The other thing to do would be to go, provided you're using Safari, to the Safari menu in the menu bar, then go to Reset Safari. Safari will then reopen, at which point, then try again. Finally, stupid question I know, but you're not on a VPN, nor behind a proxy, or firewall, are you by chance?
