No, it checks and repairs them in necessary after updates.

Re: adobe acrobat reader vs Ibooks.

2015-11-04 Thread Jessica Moss
Amen, couldn't agree more. Will try Ibooks though, can you please give me some
tips though?
I've played around with it some on my IPhone, but don't use it much, so can't
for the life of me, figure out how to scroll with it, and can you type with it?
I have to fill out this form to take it to an evaluation in a couple weeks,
and don't want any other 3rd-party apps if I can help it.

Where Are Music complications Placed By Itunes?

2015-11-04 Thread Eileen Scrivani
Hi folks,

Where is ITunes placing music compilations that I have imported from CD when
they in turn go to my IPhone? I keep my music on my Win 8.x computer and I
have no problems locating the various CDs under the Itunes Media folder on my
Windows computer. However, I am total unsure where this category of music is
being placed on my IPhone.

Certain cds such as violin/fiddle learning CDs are placed in a compilation
folder, but when I look on my IPhone, I cannot locate the music. I keep the
music grouped by artist and under artist, I see the titles of the CD and under
that track titles, but not for these compilations. I’ve checked under Unknown
and they don’t appear there either. Also, I had a large collection of
classical music purchased through ITunes, that was also placed in compilations,
and on the phone I can’t find where it has gone. If I had my way, I’d like to
have these things list under their CD title and tracks grouped under each
title. Any ideas where I should be looking?

Thanks.

Eileen

Unfortunately Adobe acrobat DC is a huge disappointment.

Re: USB devices used to work but now don't

2015-11-04 Thread David Griffith
Assuming that you have repaired Disk Permission and that it is not a
hardware fault with your port I am afraid a reinstall may be
indicated. If this problem persists after a re-install it probably is
hardware.

A few years ago my headphone socket simply stopped working. It was not
even seen as a device in system Prefernces or any of the audio settings.
However as soon as I went into recovery console I got it back so after a
reinstall it was all fine from that time - touch wood.

frustrated about Apple accessibility

2015-11-04 Thread William Windels
Hello Listers,

Here I am not speaking of me questions about activities but about the reaction
of accessibility.

This is the second time I receive such kind of a answer from accessibility.
short explanation:
I ask Apple accessibility why my macbook goes so slow when I have build some
activities and switch between the programs that are inserted in the activities.
They told me that they can’t give support from this mail-adres and that I
should contact the (paid) service apple care.

In the past, I thought they should ask more steps so that they can try to
reproduce the issue.
or in the worst case: “we wil forward this to the appropriated people”.

I have never seen this before, and you?

All comments are very welcome.

Kind regards,
William Windels

Hate to say it, but it sounds more like a hardware problem to me, especially if
you can’t remember doing anything to change your machine. I could be wrong & I

Never the less, good luck,

I don’t know what I did. Tried fixing this for nearly a week now. Help!

My function, control, and option keys only work intermittently. Sometimes even
the tab key won’t work. I’m still using Yosemite. Examples of my problems:

1. shift+VO+M won’t work.
2. keystroke for going to top or bottom of list won’t work.
3. VO+Space Bar won’t work to activate links.

and probably more. Those are the major ones.

Soft Function Keys is on. I just checked a command. VO+F2 works but VO+M won’t
bring up the menus.

Can anyone figure out what I did? Or, better yet, how to fix it?

Re: VO Guide

2015-11-04 Thread Scott Granados
There are many good podcasts on coolblindtech among others. Mike Arigo has put
together some really good stuff from basic voice over to using Fusion.

Another thing you might do is use the manual from Apple and have a PC sit next
to you that you can read easily and work with the Mac.

The most important thing I can tell you is totally make the transition. DOn’t
go half assed and keep reverting to the PC. You want to commit and it’s like
learning a language, once you emerse your self it goes that much faster. I’d
also be happy to help on list and maybe others have better suggestions. I’d
start with the podcasts though, that’s what I did and I haven’t been back to
windows since.

However, as far as I know, Windows 7 will be supported until the year 2020.

To date, there is no mandatory update to Windows 10.

In fact, I am writing this reply on a Windows 7 PC which, being an Enterprise
version, does not even display the Windows 10 notification badge.

I am also running a Windows 8.1 home Premium computer which, while displaying
the option to upgrade to Windows 10, in no way warns that the option to do this
will be taken away.

Without going into greater detail, for those using a Home version of Windows

Again, this is merely my understanding and I am certainly no authority on

Re: Making a mail folder visible to all devices.

2015-11-04 Thread Andrew Lamanche
If you created the "Saved Mail" account at the level of your mac, then you
won't be able to see it via your other devices which have access only to the
folders created at the level of your IMAP account.

The only solution I can think of is to create a new folder but to make sure it
is created at the level of your IMaP account. You do this while Mail is open
on your mac by going to menus, mailboxes, choose new mailbox item, and once the
dialog box opens, you can type in the name of this new folder. To the left of
the folder name field, you can see at which level the folder is being created.
It is a popup menu button so you can choose there at which level or in which
folder you wish the new mailbox to be created. Once you have the new
folder/mailbox, You could move your existing messages or copy them using copy
option from the old folder to the new one. From now on, make sure you move or
save your messages to this new folder.

Hope this will help.

Re: Ofice 360 with mac?

2015-11-04 Thread Sadam Ahmed

Hi Daniela,

Whilst Office 2016 for the Mac works well with VoiceOver I wouldn't say
it's at the same level as the PC product.

Outlook is okay. However for complex stuff there still some bugs to
contend with.

Maybe learning Pages might be a better bet?

I do know that Anne who is on this list does offer training on the topic.

The student could always export Pages documents to MS word.

Just a few ideas.

Hope this helped. :)

If you move the "saved messages" folder to your IMAP account, that makes it

Re: Burning cd from FLAC sound format

2015-11-04 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Sabahattin,

Thanks for this. I've also been looking in the meantime, and in case it is of
interest to you or anybody else on the list, I've found a free (donations
welcome) utility for the mac called XLD.app. It has a command line version
since you are well-versed in this one but for me the GUI interface is great as
I've never mastered command line, not yet anyway.

At first when I opened the app, it seemed it was inaccessible because the
window was empty and moving vo cursor did not produce any results. But then, I
opened preferences with command+, and I was able to move and adjust preferences
there. That made me feel more optimistic. So I decided to open a file for
conversion and hey presto! as soon as I opened a file, the window was almost
fully navigable with one only button that triggers conversion not labelled.
The app converts all sorts of files like .ogg FLAC, and others which I can't
even remember. The good thing about this app is that it also converts to Apple
lossless. It gives the lossless files the extension .m4a, and I wanted to ask
you whether it really means that they are lossless. But wait, there is there
is more to this app: you can convert a whole folder in one go if you choose to
open it as a cd, and also it has its own ripper option and burner option so I
was able to burn a cd straight from the FLAC files. I'm impressed. The only
question mark I have is over the lossless extensions being .m4a but Having
rummaged through the itunes media folder and looked at the extensions of the
cds I had imported in Apple lossless format, they too have the extension m4a.
So maybe all is well.

Again thanks for responding. One note of caution to those of you who might
want to look for this app. Be careful as the now notorious MacUpdate website
also offers downloads of this app. So one would be better downloading from the
developer. I can't provide the url now because I moved away from the page
without taking note of it. But do make sure it is not MacUpdate or softtonic
as i've heard the downloads from these websites may contain malware.

Best wishes
