Google Groups confusion

2015-12-06 Thread Bob Hill
Hi all,

I have had some confusion using google groups, especially with the
macvisionaries list and my subscription.
It seems like I can stumble on settings, but then can’t find them again.

I had both a gmail address, and a comcast address for subscribing, and by
accident I found that the gmail address was selected.
Now I found and hopefully changed settings so my comcast address is now being
used.

For the life of me I can’t find those settings again.

GRRR.

Any suggestions on how to more effectively navigate this maze?

Thanks.

Bob Hill

Re: Quality of Nuance Voice Tom for the MacBook Air

2015-12-06 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I'm thinking it's your imagination. Though I honestly never have liked the
nuance voices at all really, I've not heard any differences in the way
you're describing.

Subject: Quality of Nuance Voice Tom for the MacBook Air

Hello, everyone.

I am using a 13-inch MacBook Air running OS X 10.10.5. I recently
downloaded the Nuance voice Tom using the VoiceOver Utility function,
and I notice that the sample sentence spoken by Tom accessible without
downloading the voice sounds more natural than the downloaded voice.
"Natural" is, of course, difficult to define, but to my ears, the
sample voice sounds as if it occupies a greater frequency bandwidth.
Is this limitation on the quality of the downloaded voice connected to
the available memory of the MacBook Air? Is it a product of my
imagination? :-)

Thank you for all help.,

Craig

Re: Syncing Connection Data from iPhone to Mac

2015-12-06 Thread Alex Hall
If you enable iCloud Keychain, wifi details are synced automatically. That
said, your Mac needs to be online for the syncing to occur, so that may not be
the best solution. Still, if you can get online some other way--iPhone as a
hotspot, maybe--it should do the job.

Swift Now Open Source

2015-12-06 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Swift, as promised in the last WWDC to much applause and cheering, is now Open
Source. swift.org

The potentially interesting point as far as accessibility is concerned is that
the Swift foundation classes were re-implemented in a portable manner, without
the use of the Objective-C runtime. That means we won’t be learning the
mechanics of the runtime from the Swift code. The Objective-C runtime is,
itself, open-source, but is of no use outside OS X and iOS. That would seem to
mean that there will probably continue to be less interest in targeting the
objective-C runtime and therefore accessibility protocols of iOS and OS X from
outside of Cocoa and therefore iOS and OS X development. This is a shame, but
I suppose the broader portability is an overall plus. Of course, each platform
already provides its own accessibility APIs at the higher levels anyway, so
this is purely academic and speculative, but when we were discussing this
before, Swift was brought up as a possible growth point. It doesn’t look like
it will be now.

Re: Managing spaces with VoiceOver on El Capitan

2015-12-06 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Paul,

Have you tried opening System Preferences and looking at Mission Control. Try
unchecking the first four checkboxes, then set all the shortcuts except for
Dashboard to Hyphen, which is the last choice in the menus.
I don’t know that this will fix your problem as I’ve always disabled Mission
control.

Cheers,

a most strange behavior with Comtacts

2015-12-06 Thread Raymond Foret Jr
Okay,

First, thanks for y'all's help with Skype last night. Ever since I reinstalled
Mac OS 10.11, I have noticed a strange behavior with Contacts. Every single
time I try to press VO+right after opening Contacts I hear "Contacts busy" and
then, when I finally get to the scrole area, I hear the boundry sound
indicating I can't move either up or down. IF I then go in to menus and back
out again, I find I can move through the contacts list as a scrole area. I
have not yet synched my iPhone to my Mac but only through Icloud. Any idea
what's going on and how if possible to fix it?

Thanks in advanced.

PS. Ever since I got this Mac back from the shop, it really feels like a new
Mac. The new built-in microphone is way better than the original one, the
speakers work better, and the hard drive, which used to be a 7200 RPM now seems
to be a 5400RPM drive.

Hey all,
I don't know all the details, as this is new news and I'm not an iTuns match
user, but I just saw that the track limit for this service is now one hundred
thousand songs instead of twenty-five thousand. Enjoy your new track space!

Re: Help witth apple script

2015-12-06 Thread dan dunfee

Hi all,

Thanks for the offer for help with a simple apple script. Using os10.10
in terminal from within applications such as lynx the web browser, here
are the 3 steps I need to do:

1. send the key combination control+f

2. send the exact string:

:exec dss

3. send a return

Please ask if this is unclear. Thanks again.

Hi,

Is there anyone who could help me do a very simple apple script of three steps?

The info on the web is overwhelming and I don't know how to start.

I want to use the feature of attaching apple scripts to a voiceover commander
key combination. I know how to do that but the apple script part is still
beyond my current level of knowledge.

I hope to use this example to learn how to use apple script.

Thanks for any help,

Re: Where To Ehnter New Router Password?

2015-12-06 Thread Eileen Scrivani
Jeff,

Thank you. I don’t know why but the dialog did not pop up after I selected the
router’s name. Even after restarting the computer it took quite some time and
finally, finally the dialog you describe came up.

For future reference, It is also under system preferences, under network, but
at first I was not even finding the necessary password field there for quite
some time. I don’t know why this computer is so slow to recognize a connection
like this.

All seems to be working fine now, so thanks again.

Hi Eileen, Go to the extras menu, hit enter on your router's name. A
dialog will pop up, the first item will be the password, followed by a
check box to remember the network, then join and cancel. Just type
your password, tab and check the box to remember the network, and tab
again and hit enter on join.
Hope this helps! Jeff

Where To Ehnter New Router Password?

2015-12-06 Thread Eileen Scrivani
Hi All,

We just updated our home Router and while my Mac Book Pro recognizes the new
router name, I cannot locate where on the machine to enter the new password. I
am assuming this is necessary since without the password it keeps telling me I
don’t have service. I clearly see the new name in a table list, but not an
input area to type the pswd. This was under the Menus Extra YFi and also under
system preferences Network.

Thanks for any pointers to where I need to look.
