Re: Installing braille embosser

Got a response from Enabling and its simple, OS X is not supported
on the old Juliet Classic. So I will look around and see if I can find a
newer embosser that needs a home. For what I do, I cannot justify a new one.

option in that Send to list which is /test.output.

I don’t suppose you’ll get much use out of OS X’s printer subsystem for

On the other hand, surely it is only a matter of identifying the parallel or
serial device that appears on OS X, assuming that the chipset is one supported
by a USB driver. In which case, I imagine one simply sends the ASCII braille
file to the embosser much as it used to be.

What does OS X say your USB device really is. Check in System Information
under USB. Check the detailed info in the pane once it’s selected.

Re: Installing braille embosser

I’ll probably get one too soon. Do you have a Windows computer around at all
if so you wouldn’t have to justify anything cause you could send the document
to the Windows computer and just hook the embosser up there. Even better, put
your Mac and Pc on a network together and then you may be able to send it
directly over to the Pc.

Re: Braille displays with VMware

2016-01-04 Thread E.T.
Kawal's suggestion to turn CO off allowed me to add the braille
display but I still cannot use it...yet.

I did finally get USB working, had to reset the braille display
which would have saved me a weekend of troubleshooting had I done that
first. Now back to trying to get Bluetooth working.

I have a braille display paired with the Mac and now want to pair it with
Windows under VMware. I cannot disconnect it from the Mac so that Windows can
discover it. I do not want to unpair it from the Mac. What is the trick to make
this work? Thanks.

Hi,

I use SAfari in DOM mode. Also, I first clicked the month of the Archive which
then expanded the available radio clips. So maybe that's what you have to do?

RE: Installing Windows 7 under bootcamp without sighted assistance

2016-01-04 Thread Simon Fogarty
Bootcamp grabs windows installation files from the image of the windows
installation disk and writes those files plus apples bootcamp drivers for the
installation all on to a flash drive.
Then when the install is ready to run it grabs everything from the flash drive
and installs on to your bootcamp partition which was specified during the setup
/ configuration process.

But due to the apple bootcamp drivers not being installed till the very last
stage you have no audio or possibly usb so therefore no audio output is
possible.

I must admit I haven't tried using USB speakers during the setup of windows in
bootcamp so it might be worth a try as I know it works with a normal computer
installation of windows systems.

Hope that makes more sence.

Hi. I'm confused. Are we installing Windows to the flash drive via Bootcamp or
are we installing it to the Mac? I've been thinking of going back to Bootcamp
with Windows 10 because this thing runs terribly slow with it under VMWare
Fusion. Look forward to your reply.

HI Andrew,

Yeah done it a few times, and have windows 10 currently on my mac book air
under bootcamp.

I've tried installing it with out assistance but it appears no go at least I
haven't found a way yet.

It's pretty easy really, run the Boot camp assistant in the Mac OSX and then
follow the prompts.

All you need now is an ISO of the windows installer package and a USB / flash
drive with more than 8GIG of available storage

Once bootcamp finishs what it needs to do the machine restarts in to the
windows installation the problem we have is that apple / windows drivers are
not installed until the very last stage of the setup,

If you have the ISO on your desktop then bootcamp should pick it up without
problem and you then only need to make sure the flash drive is selected as
bootcamp writes / downloads the apple windows bootcamp drivers to the flash
drive.
And then that's where windows is actually installed from.
Oh and the only thing to be aware of is the step that asks you to set the drive
partition size by default it only gives you 20GB

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Has anyone on the list had experience of installing Windows 7 in Bootcamp
without sighted assistance? Having looked at the process on Apple's support
pages, I can see that it is probably not possible. Also, even if sighted
assistance is required, would you mind sharing your experience? Please feel
free to write off list. I'd appreciate that.

Yes, have a Dell laptop. I don't have the space in here to keep both
it and the Mac running. I have been thinking about this and keep coming
back to going full time with the Mac. Really only have two tasks that I
need Windows for. I could do without one and with a new (or newer)
embosser, Windows would be out of a job.

On the other hand, surely it is only a matter of identifying the parallel or

by a USB driver. In which case, I imagine one simply sends the ASCII braille

What does OS X say your USB device really is. Check in System Information

Question about Main Stage

2016-01-04 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I realize that there is a way to record in Main Stage 3, but I am curious. Is
it something where I only can record maybe 2 tracks or so, kind a like you'd do
with a standard digital piano, where it's not really per sé a full sequencer,
or is it something where with my midi controller, I could arrange a whole
rendition of a song with all the things like piano, drums, strings, base,
organs, etc, all in the mix. Being that Main Stage is more for live
performances, I wasn't sure to what extent its recording abilities were from an
accessibility standpoint, as well as from a flexibility standpoint.

I plan to read the manual, but admittedly, from what I see so far, it appears
to be a little bit clunky of an interface, but I think with time, I'll get the
hang of it.

Chris.

Re: Installing braille embosser

2016-01-04 Thread Grant
Have you tried using a virtual machine to operate your embosser using your
Windows application of choice? It's not an ideal solution per say, but it's
precisely this kind of task to which a VM is most suited. And since you can
share data between Windows and OS X, no data duplication should be required.

Best,

Grant

Hi,

I use Alex,, the default American voice, and also Greek voice from
AssistiveWare. It's interesting that this fluctuation doesn't appear to be

Yes, I have vo set to navigate all images in vo utilities in the Web
categories. As to expanding the archive, I just pressed vo+spacebar on the
month and moved to the right and I could see the list of the individual titles
after each of the title vo announced "image' and that's when I routed the mouse
to vo cursor with vo+command+f5 and then performed the click with
vo+shift+spacebar. This started the playback after a few seconds. It was
obviously an old radio recording. I didn't have much time to play with it,
just tried it on one title.

 Hope this will help.

Re: purchasing Amadeus Pro

2016-01-04 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Donna, apps from the App Store have some degree of sandboxing, and this
impedes a few Amadeus functions. But the big deal is that if you run beta
versions of OS X, there've been a couple of occasions where Amadeus Pro stops
working. If you depend on it for making a living as I do, you don't want to
wait until Apple gets around to approving a new version. But those problems
don't apply when you have the version from his website.
The good thing is that on the Hairersoft website, Martin has provided a
step-by-step guide for converting your App Store version to a Hairersoft.com
 version, which I recommend doing.
Hope that helps.

Is Amadeus Proeasier to use than Garage Band?

2016-01-04 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

so Garage band is bugging the out of me. When I press Record, it records
the metronome, which I do not want, but not my voice. If it's easier to use,
I'll shell out the $$ for Amadeus Pro, but thought I'd get some list feedback
first. Would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.
Thanks,
Donna

Hello,

yeah, thats pretty weird about the headphones indeed.
Do you have the speech volume issue with the Greek Assistiveware voice too?
i own the Dutch Acapela voices from Assistiveware, currently not installed, but
dont like them as much as the Vocalizer ones.

 Dear all,

Since last week I’m running El Capitan on a new iMac and have some issues
with the speech volume keeps increasing and decreasing by itself. The
effect takes place all the time and is gradual. I have audioducking and 3D
audio turned off and have no additional speech settings activated.
Perhaps it’s a language specific problem, I’m using the Dutch voices.
On a MacBook Pro I have the exact same issues.
It’s pretty annoying, will email Apple Accessibility as well, because
Voice Over has some more bugs. Like using high pitched voice, while this
 is disabled also.

 Thanks and happy new year,
 Ronald

purchasing Amadeus Pro

2016-01-04 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

I just saw that Jonathan Mosen recommends purchasing Amadeus directly from the
vendor, rather than through the app store. Unfortunately, I hadn't seen this
earlier, so have purchased through the app store. Why the recommendation to
purchase from the vendor? Will I have any ongoing issues due to having
purchased from the app store?
TIA,
Donna

Re: Installing Windows 7 under bootcamp without sighted assistance

2016-01-04 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Shawn,

I'm a little confused too and thus a bit nervous because having read the
supporting documentation on Apple's support pages for windows 7 - which is the
version I want to install via bootcamp on my 2010 macbook air - I don't know
whether I can install windows 7 from its disk which I have or whether I must
create an .iso image from teh the original disk and use that. Why or why
aren't instructions from the gurus ever clear? :) Although I chose to read the
page on installing windows 7, I get an impression that some steps are meant for
installation of windows 8 or higher. SOS! What is going on? Do I use my
original installation windows 7 disk, or not? I understand that the flush
drive is only for bootcamp windows drivers to be copied onto during the process
and once windows is installed, one has to run the drivers from the usb flush
drive.

Hi Jonathan,

It does help, thank you! thus far, I haven't run any beta versions, but what

 Hi Ronald,

Yes, I can confirm the same happens on my macbook pro too. I've only just
noticed it because I normally use my mac with headphones and when the
headphones are plugged in, this change does not happen. So I was very
surprised when one day I disconnected my headphones and i noticed this
 strange behaviour.

Good thing you are going to report this.

Best wishes for the new year.

I’ve definitely seen this audio fluctuation effect, but it hasn’t ever been
with me for long because I almost immediately disable audio ducking, which I
generally find more annoying than helpful. Perhaps try just disabling audio
ducking, if you haven’t yet.
