Nancy,
Thanks. Sounds good. Only a 14 day trial so will wait until I know I
will sit down and play with Things. Hmm, that sounds like what I do
already. (smiles)

Re: Very creepy experience with Siri

2016-08-08 Thread Jessica Moss
Oh wow, sounds similar to the sceen in “the santa clause 2,” where they try to
make a robotic Santa, to try to run the show while the real one AKA Scott
Calvin, has to temporarily go back home to deal with family issues, only things
go seriously wrong with the robotic one and he puts everybody on the nauty list
and generates nothing but lumps of coal instead of helping to make toys.
Sounds like a crazy thing to think about 10+ years from now lol.

Spellchecking on the iPad? Am I missing something?

2016-08-08 Thread Douglas Lawlor
Hello all,

Are there keyboard commands for spellchecking documents on the iPad. I am
trying to type an email and I can hear VoiceOver give me the pop up
notification for misspellings but cannot seem to access the pop up. How does
one do this?
If I could find an easy way to spell check content creation would be a lot
easier. I can use this all day and not worry about battery life.
Would love to get this problem solved.

Thanks,

Doug

This is the same process as folders in the finder.

Hello Jenine,

Double-tap and hold with two fingers. You’ll hear a series of clangs, after
which you can type in a new label. Click the Done button and VoiceOver will
read the new name.
Interestingly, in the App Switcher, VO will read the new name, but when you
close the app, it will be announced with its original name.

Cheers,

Anne

Speaking of the idea of robotic technology controlling the will, I think of a
YouTube video of Conversation between Siri and Siri on two separate devices.
I'll have to play around with different voice interactions between Siri,

Re: Very creepy experience with Siri

2016-08-08 Thread Scott Granados
The same can be said for every revolution in technology. There was a time when
the buggy whip business was huge after all or there were people who brought ice
to your home everyday to fill your ice box. Things change. You’re absolutely
right there may be robots but for the foreseeable future anyway there will be
engineers working on thee robots.
Your case is a good one though for a little further down the road.
There will be a time when machines will build, design and maintain themselves
and then we get in to very interesting areas. It may be very likely for
example that humans are needed for some aspect of production but they would
take their direction from machines in other parts of the operation. The idea
eventually of a digital being heading up a company for example is not entirely
impossible. For example, what if Steve Jobs lived 50 years from now and we had
the ability to scan his brain and transfer the data in his neural networks to a
machine which could function as long as it was maintained. He could have
continued running apple but no longer in biological form. Or transferred back
in to a biological form once a clone was sufficiently aged.

Bottom line is you’re right but things adapt so there are jobs and activities
we couldn’t have imagined. Alexander Graham Bell for example could probably
not imagine what I do today although they are directly related.

Interesting point, and your definitely not alone in that concern. I will say
this though, a little over 100 years ago, people have the same concerns about
machines in factories taking jobs.

RE: Very creepy experience with Siri

2016-08-08 Thread Simon Fogarty
Jessica,

They have, they did it in a documentary I watched years ago.

It was called terminator and was about a cyborg that was built by a company
called cyberdyme systems, and their systems became so smart they started
controlling themselves and the world

Then arnie comes along and tries to kill people

 Really good documentary
There are a few follow ups to it also.

Lol.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they came out with a robotic device some time
in the near future, that comunicated/doctored people, like the one that was
developed in the movie “big hero 6."

Yeah but not all is set by the human developer in a static system,

Asking about resturants or cafes must be from a web based service,

And that is only working in certain situations,
