Re: Two questions about Amadeus Pro

2016-08-13 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
There are some features which are disabled in the app store version, which are
not in the version you get through the website, due to Apple's sandboxing
resctrictions. They're nothing hugely significant that I know of, but I'd
still suggest going through the site. If you already got through the appstore,
and feel it's too late, it's not. They give you a way totally for free to
convert your license, so... if you already bought from the appstore, it's not
the biggest deal. We can get that problem fixed.

What is the difference buying from the web store or buying from the App Store?

I also have bought Jonathan Mosen's audio tutorial called Amadeus Maestro,

tutorials/books I've ever! gotten from him, short of Sonosthisia, but we won't
cover that in this message. Anyway...

I am super super super impressed! I had a trial back in the days of
Amadeus Pro, and really liked it, but now that I really have gone through the
tutorial with Jonathan, I feel like I have a brand new appreciation for the
software. I now just have two questions.

1. I know about moving my insertion point to the playhead with command+Y.
Is there, however a key shortcut by default that does the oppisit, moving the
playhead to the insertion point?

2. I highly doubt it, but, can Amadeus do anything at all with midi? So,
let's say I have a standard either sm0, or preferably, sm1 compliant .mid midi
file. Can I open/import it into Amadeus? I get that I wouldn't have all
things of a full fledged sequencer, like say, a midi event editer, or a note
viewer, or a piano roll, etc, but could I at the very! least, get the midi file
into Amadeus, or would I first have to find a way to convert either to a lossi
or lossless format, like wave/mp3, etc. Also if it'll somewhat, though very
limitedly do midi, do I have the ability with a controller to record midi? I
didn't see anything, and I'm thinking this app probably won't. I think it's
more for audio stuff than for midi, therefore I'm probably gonna have to keep
using Logic, ProTools, Garageband, Mainstage, and Reaper for things like that,
but! alas, I just figured I'd ask, just in case. You never know.

Chris.

Hi simon that wouldn't work for me, only because my itunes folder is duplicate
and tripled because when I made the move from windows something went wrong and
now I have itunes folders within itunes folders. It's a mess but I'm not that
advanced yet to even think of tackling that. The file in question needed to be
converted so that I can transfer it to windows and then to a very old mp3
player my husband uses. So think about it I would have to look through
thousands of files to find the converted file.
Anyhow as you go through the mail you'll see that I was able to use an online
converter to do the job.

So starting to play with windows again I remembered one reason I hate microsoft
so much.

I’m installing a new instance of windows 10, put in my key, start the process,

It says “your installation of windows 10 has failed, click ok”

That’s so helpful in diagnosing the problem.

Has anyone else seen this and made heads or tails out of it?

Have you considered widening the search until you get all, or more than all,

Difficulty Accessing Body of Incoming Messages

2016-08-13 Thread Sandra E . Finley
I have never been able to efficiently read the body of an email message and it
is very annoying.
The only way I can read the text is to down arrow a couple of times and then
swipe down or continue down arrowing. Here is what I have tried:
 .
I open email messages with either enter or command o. In both cases VO says,
"message headers." Then I attempt to read the message in several ways:

swipe down with two fingers: VO says "message headers."

VO a (read contents of

VO b (read from beginning) same result b: ((read from beginning): I get the
little "bong" error message.

Because I have a lap top with no control key on the right, I have set up
keyboard commanders with right option:
option v read contents of vo cursor and
option b read from beginning, and I get the same result.

Any ideas what the problem is? Thanks.

Re: Difficulty Accessing Body of Incoming Messages

2016-08-13 Thread Alex Hall
Enter will--or should--focus you on the body of the message. It may take a
second, but it should do it. That was made much better in 10.11, so I have to
first ask if you're running the latest macOS version? If so, is cursor tracking
on? Press vo-shift-f3 to make sure it is; if you hear "cursor tracking on",
awesome! If you hear that it is now off, press the command again to turn it
back on. You nearly always want this on.

If pressing enter absolutely will NOT work, many people like to use the preview
pane. On a message, hit vo-j and VO will read the message as it focuses on the
text in the preview pane. If you've closed that pane in the past, vo-j will
instead jump you to the mailboxes table, or perhaps go nowhere if you have your
mailboxes hidden. If that happens, let us know which macOS version you have so
we can advise on how to open the panel. The main problem I have with this
method is that any message you arrow past will be marked as "read", even if you
didn't read it. Mail shows any focused message in the preview pane, and
considers it read if that happens. Since VO focuses on a message as you arrow
to it, that causes the message to be displayed and thus read, even if you
arrowed right past it and didn't truly read it at all.

Speeding up Youtube videos on iOS?

2016-08-13 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
Is there a way in the Youtube app, or a separate app, to speed up Youtube
videos? I often listen to long ones, like presentations or debates, and would
love a way to make them go faster like I do podcasts. I'd be okay with an app
as simple as accepting just a URL, with no additional Youtube functionality,
though a more full-featured one would be great if it exists. Thanks for any
suggestions.

Travel bluetooth keyboard recommendations?

2016-08-13 Thread Alex Hall
Hi list,
I'll be going on a short trip in a couple weeks and plan to bring only my
iPhone. BSI is great, but for longer messages, I'd like to have something
better. What is a good keyboard for use with iOS that can travel well? I'm not
the biggest fan of folding keyboards, as the one I've used was cramped and
unsteady while typing. I don't want a pocket-sized one, but I do need something
that won't take up a ton of room in a backpack and that will stand up to the
rigors of travel without losing key caps or having its internals damaged.
Obviously, key placement for easy VO control is a huge plus, but with the caps
lock option in iOS9 that's not as big of a concern as it used to be.

Re: Travel bluetooth keyboard recommendations?

2016-08-13 Thread Kimberly
The Amazon basics Bluetooth keyboard is fantastic. It is slim and light but has
full-size keys and is very easily transported in a backpack. It's also very
reasonably priced and pears quite easily with the iPhone.

Re: Difficulty Accessing Body of Incoming Messages

2016-08-13 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi Sandy,

I have experienced this issue intermittently. Two things that have helped,
have been first to try interacting with the message body. VO Left and right
arrow will navigate you between message body and message headers. When you
know you're on the message body, interact. You should then be able to read the
message.

When that doesn't work, I have found that turning VO off and on again while in
the message will usually do the trick.

Neither of these solutions is particularly convenient, but they do work. :)

A Mail Boxes Question.

2016-08-13 Thread Eileen Scrivani
Hello All,

I am uncertain if I have mail boxes hidden on my Mac Book Pro or not.

It used to be that I could navigate to a mail boxes table and select the one I
wanted. I am running Yosemite, but am no longer finding the table. In reading
the past few messages about focusing on messages, it made me wonder if somehow
the mail boxes got hidden. I can do a Command+F1 to get into the In-box.

Thank you for any input on what I might need to do and where I will need to
look.

2016-08-13 Thread -dan d.

Hi,

To do what you mention in your post below use this.

To hear the address of a link, while on it use shft-vo + u to have it
spoken.

To copy the address just spoken use shft-vo + c and it will be saved to
the clipboard and voiceover will say "last phrase copied to pasteboard".
Pasteboard is aplles name for the clipboard in windows.

Any character or word or longer phrase can be save using the above.
To paste the phrase or any saved item use cmd+v.

It used to be that I could navigate to a mail boxes table and select the one
I wanted. I am running Yosemite, but am no longer finding the table. In
reading the past few messages about focusing on messages, it made me wonder if
somehow the mail boxes got hidden. I can do a Command+F1 to get into the
In-box.

Thank you for any input on what I might need to do and where I will need to
look.

  Eilee

Hi simon that wouldn't work for me, only because my itunes folder is duplicate
and tripled because when I made the move from windows something went wrong and
now I have itunes folders within itunes folders. It's a mess but I'm not that
advanced yet to even think of tackling that. The file in question needed to be
converted so that I can transfer it to windows and then to a very old mp3
player my husband uses. So think about it I would have to look through
thousands of files to find the converted file.
Anyhow as you go through the mail you'll see that I was able to use an online
converter to do the job.

I hear from another list, that the Macintosh versions of Office now have
the "Accessibility tester" available.

What this means for us, is that people who use the Macintosh Microsoft
Office suite will soon be able to click a ribbon item and and be reminded
to give alternative text for graphics and also be told if any of their
document structures are not suitable for AT technology.

Go and advocate to your computer friends that send they have no excuse now
for sending you documents that are unreadable and composed in Word or

help with get info please

2016-08-13 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi guys, something small but very annoying. I'm on a song in itunes and I
hit command I to go to the get info. I go to details, I interact, and I vo
right through the fields. When I come to the artist field and I start to
type it automatically brings up artists matching what I'm typing. That would
be ok accept I don't want to select from those artists. So to understand
better what I mean here's an example. I start to type Michael Jackson and of
course it matches that but the selection it's matching is in all caps and I
don't want it that way, but it won't let me select to type the name the way
I want it.
Maybe a better understanding and example is this.
I'm typing an artists name in Greek which needs to have an accent above a
certain letter, itunes is automatically bringing up suggestions but the one
that matches what I'm typing doesn't have the accent. I want to type it the
way I want not the way it's showing it but it won't let me.
I hope I haven't confused you guys too much.
Hope some one understood what I've described and can help.
Thanks again

Re: I hate Microsoft, VM fusion installation fails

2016-08-13 Thread Mike Arrigo
Windows 10 has some odd quirks. With the software I do tech support for, on
some windows 10 systems, we have to install it a section at a time or it will
not work. If the fusion install does not work, this would probably prevent you
from being able to install it without sighted help as you could with previous
windows versions. I'm reminded why I left the Windows world entirely for my
home computers, far too many problems. Give me the Mac any day.

Re: help with get info please

2016-08-13 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Another thing you can do is:

1. Search for Mike Jackson.
2. Verify that you got only Mike Jackson songs
3. Select all (command-A)
4. Do get info
5. Change the Artest name to Michael Jackson

Note at either step 4 or step 5 you should get a warning message asking you
to confirm changes to multiple items.

HTH this helps in your Organization. I also seem to remember some
discussion of a tool to find duplication in the iTunes library. This would
have been about 3 years ago, but if you are facing an issue with this then
I suggest you search for older MacVisionaries discussions on iTunes clean

Best of luck!

Re: Travel bluetooth keyboard recommendations?

2016-08-13 Thread Jenine Stanley
Alex, short of the Apple bluetooth keyboard, I use the Logitech K480. It can
pair with 3 devices, which I like, and is fairly sturdy. I’ve had no issues
with mine and have dropped it at least once on a tile floor. the cover doesn’t
feel particularly sturdy but it’s better than it feels. The key action is
awesome as well and the way the spaces between keys are covered makes it hard
to get stuff down in between keys. It also has a little stand area along the
back top for iPad/iPhone if not in an Otterbox case. It’s about 11.5 inches
wide, 8 inches long and about half an inch thick. It takes 2 Double A
batteries, which last a ridiculously long time.

Need iTunes Connect Guru

Hi all,

I have been building an app to submit to the Apple App Store and have finally
reached that point where I am submitting for approval. I am stuck in iTunes
Connect hell and need a guru to get me out.

Is anybody out here skilled at iTunes Connect and/or know somebody that is? If
I had any hair, I would have pulled it all out by now. Very frustrated with
this whole process.

Please contact me off list at:

Re: Travel bluetooth keyboard recommendations?

2016-08-13 Thread Alex Hall
Thanks. I've been told the Logitech series in general is good, with some able
to switch between devices. I've also gotten recommendations for the standard
Apple keyboard, and the iClever folding keyboard.

I know I said I'm not a fan of folding ones, but the more I read about this
iClever, the more I find myself swaying in its direction. It's aluminum, a
trip-fold design, can be recharged, and has very good reviews on Amazon. The
more I consider my use case, the more I think something able to fold down small
will be better for plane and car travel than would a full-sized, if slim,
keyboard. But by all means, if people have other suggestions, do please let me
know. Thanks.

Re: a question about safari please

2016-08-13 Thread christopher hallsworth
Zoe glad you are enjoying your mac. I am using my trusty old late 2011 Macbook
Pro 13 inch running the latest El Capitan build, and it’s still going strong,
unlike your average Windows computer which seems to slow down the more you use
it, Reminds me why I use a mac full time, it’s trustworthy and never slows down
just because of usage. I plan to definitely buy another mac in the future.

Re: Searching for sanity

2016-08-13 Thread Larry Thacker Jr.
It can’t be much simpler than only consisting of Name contains Larry.
I even tried moving all the files into a fresh folder and rebuilding the search
on that folder. I get the same results. I’m mystified. I can live without
the convenience of the search, but why something so utterly simple is not
working is puzzling. Plain old MS DOS can do better than that, albeit without
the ability to save the search.

Re: Searching for sanity

2016-08-13 Thread Alex Hall
I mean, expand your criteria. That is, start with "name contains l", or "kind
is media", targeting only your main folder. You'll get more than you want, but
this is just to see if things are working. Slowly add more to your search
(remember that it's live, so you need only adjust text or parameters to have
the search run again). Hopefully, you can narrow it down and find where the
search stops finding too much and starts finding not enough. I haven't used
searches often, but when I do, they work well and are very convenient.

Re: accessible app recommendation needed please

2016-08-13 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I did a bit of google work and it appears a pre-compiled version is at:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/sox/files/sox/

There is also a sox wrap I saw mentioned that provides a GUI interface to the
command line tool. As well as a being included in the home-brew packages of
tools used to provide more Linux like distributions to the Macintosh platform.

Best wishes,

Re: Travel bluetooth keyboard recommendations?

The Logitech keyboard I mentioned has a mechanical, and very tactile, on-off
switch on the back. It also can pair with iOS or Windows devices by way of a
switch on the front.

I love my Apple keyboard but it’s hard to tell sometimes when it’s on or off.

RE: Travel bluetooth keyboard recommendations?

2016-08-13 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Alex,

I know it’s not a small keyboard but it is fearly solid,

What about the apple wifi keyboard?

Either version of it would be ok, but I’d go the second version the magic
keyboard as it’s rechargeable using USB / Lightening cable so the same charging
cable as for your phone would work and it’s very thin so doesn’t take up a lot
of space realy.

Hi!
Last saturday i woke up finding my Iphone drained from 50% to 0.
Ok, so i charged my phone.
Now today when i woke up my Iphone was drained from 60% so i had to recharge it
again.
It makes me wonder if something is wrong with my Iphone SE.
Or is this something that can happen sometimes?
To be honest i am on the public beta with it so it might be that to but thought
i’d might ask here for advice before i do something else.
Thanks in advance.

RE: Travel bluetooth keyboard recommendations?

2016-08-13 Thread Simon Fogarty
Janine,

You should have a look at the new apple magic keyboard,

It’s great and has a switch on the back righthand edge to power on / off.

The Logitech keyboard I mentioned has a mechanical, and very tactile, on-off
switch on the back. It also can pair with iOS or Windows devices by way of a
switch on the front.

I love my Apple keyboard but it’s hard to tell sometimes when it’s on or off.

feel particularly sturdy but it’s better than it feels. The key action is
awesome as well and the way the spaces between keys are covered makes it hard
to get stuff down in between keys. It also has a little stand area along the
back top for iPad/iPhone if not in an Otterbox case. It’s about 11.5 inches

Obviously, key placement for easy VO control is a huge plus, but with the caps

I haven’t discussed the beta trying to be careful but Simon, your experience
mirrors mine. My battery life is much improved on the 6s+ running the latest
10.0 release.

I was very skeptical about this release but the last update has sold me. I
also had call stability problems but they also seem improved.

+1, I’m so happy I’m using a Mac.

So when I run fusion I never even get the easy install options like you do with
windows 7 or 8. You get dumped right to finished after you set the OS and
version, there’s no place to enter the key in the setup through fusion.

I’ll have to try with eyeballs and see what happens.

I fired up a windows 7 pro instance the other day on this new Macbook pro with
the large SSD and it was blazingly fast on the install. Fusion 8.11 is so good
on a quad core.

StoCard, The Rewards Card App, is Back and Better Than Ever!!

2016-08-13 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I am delighted to announce that, with this latest release, StoCard, Rewards
Cards Wallet app, for iOS, is once again, VoiceOver accessible.

See below for app description and App Store link.

Mark

Stocard - Rewards Cards Wallet
By Stocard

Description

Featured as one of the best apps of the year by Apple in Europe and now
available in the US!

Store ALL your rewards cards in one app on your iPhone - with Stocard. Get
rid of all the plastic cards in your wallet! FREE!

Wall Street Journal: "a clever way of turning a smartphone into a virtual
wallet"
Techcrunch: "a simple but clever take on the mobile
phone-as-loyalty-card-wallet"

FAST:
The built in high-tech-camera scanner enables you to add loyalty cards
within seconds.
Have your phone's screen scanned for a faster transaction at properly
equipped stores*.

EASY TO USE:
No registration necessary, start using Stocard right after downloading.
Choose from over 400 preset loyalty cards.
Add any not preset loyalty card as an "other loyalty card".
Securely store your cards in the cloud

Several stores still use outdated scanner technologies (laser or flatbed
scanners instead of image scanners). These scanners unfortunately cannot
read smartphone displays. In this case simply ask the cashier to type in
your loyalty card number manually.

CARDS IN WALLET:
Add any card in Stocard with a QR code to Wallet.

For support, feedback and suggestions, please send us an email at:
supp...@stocardapp.com
