That is the problem. I never saw a continue button anywhere so did
not actually download the file and afterwards, looked in the
applications folder and under the Purchased tab as well. No joy.

I started from updates which might be the reason.

Re: A service better than drop box, I love it!

2017-03-27 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

The pCloud service appears to use a Disk Image format instead of the regular
sync folder format like DropBox and Google Drive use. with the Disk Image
style, these items are accessible but not actually stored on your device. The
syncing process will be a little different, but as long as you have a quality
internet connection, you likely won't notice much difference.

The Premium membership has a monthly fee and you are offered your first month

Gen Apple TV's due to Google changing some coding which rendered YouTube
inoperable on those units. As far as I know, 3rd Gen units should still be OK.

Okay, I am on another list that shares media and other
things. And instead of using dropbox, or send space with I absolutely hate,
they used a service called “pCloud”. It has a IOS, Mac, windows, and android
app. You get 10GB free, and get 1GB up to 20gb free for referring a friend.
You get upload and download traffic allowances, and the app is 100 percent
accessible on both Mac and PC. CAn’t say for windows or android, cause I don’t
use it on either of those platforms. Anyway, it’s free, unless you want to
upgrade, and there plans are insanely cheap. Anyway, below is my referral
link. Sign up with it, and we both get a free GB.

Recovering iPhone backup from TM

2017-03-27 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi all, I want to do a multi step thing here.

Can I retrieve old iPhone backups from time machine? I then want to open them
from the app iMazing. I successfully opened a June 2016 iPhone backup and
saved years of text conversation between me and my Aunt. I now want to see if
I have anymore messages before 2013. Maybe in older backups.

So, is the TM thing possible, then I can use iMazing again?

Thank you,
Traci

Re: What happened to YouTube on Apple TV third GEN

2017-03-27 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

My research says that YouTube should still be OK on the 3rd Gen Apple TV. Try
the following, restart your Apple TV. If the Internet connection has been
lost, sometimes YouTube won't be visible. Check your Settings under Network
and make sure that you're connected to the network with the Apple TV. Check in
Settings, Main Menu and make sure that YouTube is still one of the features
visible on the Main Menu screen. Apple had removed YouTube from 1st and 2nd
Gen Apple TV's due to Google changing some coding which rendered YouTube
inoperable on those units. As far as I know, 3rd Gen units should still be OK.

Re: do i need java.

2017-03-27 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Just a reminder that Java and JavaScript are two different technologies
that, unfortunately, share parts of their name. From wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript#History

"The final choice of name caused confusion, giving the impression that
the language was a spin-off of the Java programming language, and the
choice has been characterized as a marketing ploy by Netscape to give
JavaScript the cachet of what was then the hot new Web programming
language."

Java is much more like C in that you compile it into an app that runs on
your machine. For web browsers, it's a bit like Flash in that you need a
plugin to run Java. Also, like Flash, Java has greater capability to do
stuff such as read/write files and the like and has had a raft of
security issues. Javascript is the scripting language built into all
browsers and allows the author to add interactivity to their page. Most
pages, unless they are just static content, probably won't work right
without Javascript but it's a rare site these days that needs Java. Back
in the bad old days interactive sites and screen readers didn't work
well together so the general guidance was that and accessible site
needed to work well without Javascript. That was like boiling the ocean
to catch a fish as Javascript is used all over the place. Now days
Javascript is considered to be just another web authoring tool. You can
use it to make sites more accessible, or at least cause no harm, but it
can also be used to ruin them.

Reading mail Efficiently with Sierra

2017-03-27 Thread 'Jim Fettgather' via MacVisionaries
Hello.

It seems very beneficial to be able to skim within a mail message, moving
paragraph by paragraph.

There seems to be a discrepancy between what is said using Keyboard Help and
what is listed in the keyboard commands section of online help.

The command in question is Control Option Shift Page down.

When turning on Keyboard help, this command says, Go right one page.

Yet, in the Online help under text, this same command says Read next
paragraph.

When reading mail, when using the Go to Linked Item, Control Option J, this
command seems to work reliably to read paragraph by paragraph.

However, when opening a message with Enter or Command O, this command does
not work at all.

This is with mail in classic view, I do not know if it might act differently
in standard view..

I wonder why the difference?

Also, I wonder if there might be a way to add this command to the Quick Nav
rotor?

I would just like to find a reliable way to quickly read through a
significant number of email messages with the fewest keystrokes.

Thanks for any observations or tips.

Okay, I am on another list that shares media and other things. And
instead of using dropbox, or send space with I absolutely hate, they
used a service called “pCloud”. It has a IOS, Mac, windows, and
android app. You get 10GB free, and get 1GB up to 20gb free for
referring a friend. You get upload and download traffic allowances,
and the app is 100 percent accessible on both Mac and PC. CAn’t say
for windows or android, cause I don’t use it on either of those
platforms. Anyway, it’s free, unless you want to upgrade, and there
plans are insanely cheap. Anyway, below is my referral link. Sign up
with it, and we both get a free GB.

Re: Experience the weather in a whole new way with "Weather Gods"

2017-03-27 Thread Tim Kilburn
Simon,

We do use Celsius. the temps I was mentioning were in degrees Celsius. I've
walked to work when it was 45 below plus a wind chill on top. Once it's that
cold, whether there's a wind chill or not doesn't make that much of a
difference, it's just cold. I'm pretty sure that's where the term "tinkle"
came from. When my dog takes a leak outside, I think it freezes before it hits
the ground causing the "tinkle" noise :).

Fire zone yes, but it's a different time of year. Summer can be over 30 C up
here, but winters often go to 30 to 40 plus below C. We do love to have a fire

Ray,
The site has been having problems, very minor ones, for some time.
This is as bad as I've seen it.

I sent an email which has not been returned so it was a gremlin on

Any accessible alternative sites for the Mac for weather?

Thanks.

Re: A service better than drop box, I love it!

2017-03-27 Thread Jessica Moss
What's the name of this media service you're with? I'm a part of the mediareq
list, and love it, but dispise sendspace, partly because of their ads, and
because it's so slow and you're only allowed so much that you can download per
day.

Get them to sign up with your share link, and you can earn up to 20GB of free
storage, I got mine all in 1 day.

Okay, I am on another list that shares media and other things.
And instead of using dropbox, or send space with I absolutely hate, they used a
service called “pCloud”. It has a IOS, Mac, windows, and android app. You get
10GB free, and get 1GB up to 20gb free for referring a friend. You get upload
and download traffic allowances, and the app is 100 percent accessible on both
Mac and PC. CAn’t say for windows or android, cause I don’t use it on either
of those platforms. Anyway, it’s free, unless you want to upgrade, and there
plans are insanely cheap. Anyway, below is my referral link. Sign up with it,
and we both get a free GB.

On top of what was mentioned before, you can even share a link with your
friends, to directly upload to your pCloud folder, and they do not need an

Re: another weather site?

2017-03-27 Thread Jeffrey Shockley

Hello,

The regular Weather Underground site at

www.wund.com

seems to be accessible, although not as simple as the one you have been
using.

When you get their, after putting in your zip code, just go down the
page until you find the observations and forecast, and select the
"Discriptive" tab from the group. I know it's a little complex, but not
too hard to figure out once you play with it for a few minutes.

I hope this helps,

Jeffrey

Subject: Lastpass and Two logins for the same site

Hi all,
One for the Lastpass users among us.
My wife and I share the same Lastpass account so we have access to all
of our sites like banking etc. I am switching to the same mobile phone
provider as my wife. We need to login accounts as the company use your
mobile phone number as part of the login. When I go to the site how do I
tell lastpass

 which credentials to use?
Hope that is clear.
Thanks for any help.
Max.

I guess the way the Us deals with blindness is like almost anywhere i
know of in the rest of the better off countries, you are on some sort

RE: Experience the weather in a whole new way with "Weather Gods"

2017-03-27 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Tim,

We get cold temps here in Dunedin,

 But hells teeth,

 30 below,
You guys should start using celcius
It just seems so much warmer!

And yeah it may snow at those temps below Zero but I bet it doesn't rain a lot!

Hi Scott,

Fire zone yes, but it's a different time of year. Summer can be over 30 C up
here, but winters often go to 30 to 40 plus below C. We do love to have a fire
when it's 40 below, but wildfires aren't in the picture. And just to squash
the myths, yes it can snow when it's 40 below.

versions.

Oh well signing up through the app is very easy
Thanks.

Oh well, also not impressed with needing to give credit card details for
something that is meant to be free.

Okay, I am on another list that shares media and other things. And instead of
using dropbox, or send space with I absolutely hate, they used a service called
“pCloud”. It has a IOS, Mac, windows, and android app. You get 10GB free, and
get 1GB up to 20gb free for referring a friend. You get upload and download
traffic allowances, and the app is 100 percent accessible on both Mac and PC.
CAn’t say for windows or android, cause I don’t use it on either of those
platforms. Anyway, it’s free, unless you want to upgrade, and there plans are
insanely cheap. Anyway, below is my referral link. Sign up with it, and we
both get a free GB.
