RE: File transfer for mac and Voiceover.

2017-04-16 Thread Simon Fogarty
HI Anders,

 Apologies for th edelay,

One thing I use which only works for work currently is
VPN connection to the network I'm accessing and then mapped or shared drives
between my notebook and the machine at work.

Ok this is within windows but I'm pretty sure you can do the same thing with
the mac os.

The main reason for VPN is to get the secure connection to the correct network.

I can do it with home as well but the VPN isn't working as yet,

Shopping on Amazon using Safari on Mac OS

2017-04-16 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
Many thanks for your help on this. Please note that I have fixed my original
problem (constantly going to a web dialogue displaying customer ratings while
VO cursor is on an item). I went to VoiceOver utility and then Navigation and
then changed “mouse pointer follows VO cursor” to “mouse pointer ignores VO
cursor”. I suspect that having “Mouse pointer follows VO cursor” set on will
sometimes be seen as the mouse hovering over the position of the VO cursor
which in some web sites will trigger an action.
I do not want to turn Java Script off as that will affect other web sites.
I have downloaded the Amazon IOS App on my iPhone and will try that next time I
need to do some shopping on Amazon.
Many thanks again for your help.
Happy Easter…..

Paul Hopewell

Re: Setting up hot keys for menu items was:Shopping on Amazon using Safari on Mac OS

2017-04-16 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I am always hoping to find somebody asking questions about automations on this
list to answer.

In the case of turning off AppleScript, since this is in the menu system, it is
quite easy to set up a hot key for it.

For Apple Applications that use the standard libraries, any item in any menu
can have a hot key associated with it.

The process is to open the Shortcuts area of system preferences, since we are
talking automation here, I'll start with Siri.
Click your Siri shortcut key and say "open keyboard preferences" to Siri.
This should open system preferences and land you on the keyboard pane . There
are 5 tabs in this pane.
Keyboard,, text, shortcuts, input sources and dictation..

You can use the text area to put in abbreviations that will get automatically
expanded on both your iPhone and Macintosh, for example bwjc could be expanded
to "Best Wishes,Jonathan"
Here we will concentrate on the shortcuts tab though, so click on this.

In the shortcuts area though there are two tables. One for different areas of
the computer and one for specific actions.
Click on the last item in the first table "App Shortcuts".
Now click the add button. This will bring up a dialog to add a new keyboard
shortcut. First you pick an application (very long list), then you type in the
exact wording of a menu item for example.
""Synchronize All Accounts" "
I usually have use the VO feature "copy last phrase to the clipboard vo-shift-C
to get the spelling and case right".
Click tab once more and you will be prompted for a shortcut click any
combination of keys and they will be used to create a shortcut.
Clicking tab twice will get you to the OK button.

You can review your Application shortcuts in the second table, I have very few
of them, in Skype I set F10 to hang up.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Shopping on Amazon using Safari on Mac OS

2017-04-16 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Yes, this is in general a good idea for web sites. I used to get FaceBook and
LikedIn used to be especially bad with showing / hiding items when a mouse
moved over a particular spot, causing slowdowns and lockups. I believe they
don't have that issue now, so perhaps they can detect a screen reader that
moves mouse with focus and disable that hover actions. Especially since
you have discovered a issue and a work around, letting their accessibility team
know the issue would be great!

Best wishes,

Re: epson XP530

2017-04-16 Thread Jonathan Cohn
If you were asked to install Adobe Reader, then you were looking at a PDF
document. I generally find PDF documents very difficult to work with on the
Macintosh using either Preview, Safari or Adobe Reader. Especially if the PDF
file has been properly marked with accessibility tags, this information is not
usually presented to the Macintosh user.

I certainly prefer using VoiceStream for reviewing PDF's, but that is only
available on IOS machines.

A Blind legend

2017-04-16 Thread Vaughn Brown
Hello!

I'm writing to ask if there is a way to download A Blind Legend for
either PC or Mac? The only place I can find it is on steam.com. The
caption code is what's stopping me from buying it via an account on
steam.com. Any ideas or alternative sources to buy it from?

Thank you for your help.

Safari on Mac OS

Well, first of all I was not able to reproduce on my El Capitan system, also
Amazon appears to have a accessibility help desk: to call our Disability

Also, if you find that turning off JavaScript often is your game, then you

Tactile Dots

2017-04-16 Thread E.T.
Somewhat off topic but maybe not. I am searching for good tactile
dots I can apply to my keyboard.

I have tried bump dots and loc dots. Bump dots are made of a
material that come off because they are not a frictionless material,
sort of rubbery and catches when my fingers fly across the keyboard.

Loc dots would be perfect except they are cheaply made and many dots
when removed from the sheet are left with jagged edges.
