RE: Incredibly continuing frustration with iCloud email aliases

2017-10-10 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Christine and thank you so much for your kind words.

The truth is, there are just too many variables to take into account in your
kind of situation in order to provide a reasonably accurate solution, on-line.

I think an appointment at the genius bar is a good idea if for no other reason
but that they will be able to immediately diagnose the problem and resolve the
issue.

Please let us know what happens as I am certain that many will find your
eventual solution most helpful.

Sincerely,

Mark

Subject: Incredibly continuing frustration with iCloud email aliases

Good day, Mark:
Thanks so much for understanding my issue and providing guidance. Both my
husband and I were able to add aliases, and they are showing up in the pop-up
choices for where we can choose to send our emails. However, we are not
receiving emails. Our Sent folders tell us mail is going out, but they are
either not received, or, in my husband’s case, they are coming ostensibly from
his gmail account or not showing up at all. We are not receiving b bounced
mail, but he did receive one message saying “This is not one of your From
addresses”.
I chose “add account” and “make this account available” in mail and filled out
the fields. However, we cannot send or receive email from these addresses; they
don’t appear, for all intents and purposes, to exist.
My husband called Apple. They made him first remove his Sim card, dust it off,
then reinsert it. They also had him sign out of the account and then sign back
in. Nothing is working. At this point, he believes he needs to make a Genus Bar
appointment; yet, we cannot help thinking there is something simple and
ridiculously obvious that we are missing. If you have any ideas, they would be
appreciated. Thanks so much.
Christine

Re: Resetting an iPhone 8 after VO bug

2017-10-10 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi. I don't have an iPhone 8 but I've heard from people that do. Apparently,
the volume buttons reset the phone now. It's either hold both the volume
buttons down for 5 seconds or hold the volume down button for 5 seconds and the
volume up button for 5 seconds individually. Sorry I can't be of any help, a
group from Whatsapp was talking about this.

Do you use the program in conjunction with Time Machine?

Re: Vo+cmd+shift+space, can i understand it?

2017-10-10 Thread Jonathan Cohn
This key sequence does not move the mouse it just does a press and then undress
when done a second time. You can move the mouse about on the screen either by
having the Mouse Follow the VoiceOver cursor or by using the VoiceOver command
route mouse to VoiceOver cursor (control-option-command-F5).

So using this technique you would use the vo-command-shift-space to press the
mouse, you would then move the voiceOver cursor to where you want to drop the
item. Then depending on routing of cursors you might need to move the mouse
with the "route mouse to VoiceOver cursor" command mentioned above. Then you
would need to retype the VO-shift-command-space patter to release the mouse
button. Obviously not a very efficient way to do drag and drop operations but
it can be done.

There is also the vo drag and drop commands that often don't work

1. Both source and target need to be visible in the screen at the same time.
2. The selection should not change between when you do the drag command and
when you do the drop command.
3. Drag and drop commands that take advantage of holding the mouse over a
target so that it springs open have no way to work with VoiceOver drag and
drop.
Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Learn what to do if you don't see all of your songs, albums, playlists, or other imported content after you update iTunes on your computer.

2017-10-10 Thread M. Taylor
If you don't see your entire library after you update iTunes on your Mac or
PC

Learn what to do if you don't see all of your songs, albums, playlists, or
other imported content after you update iTunes on your computer.

iTunes keeps track of your content and playlist in a library file. If iTunes
can't update your library file immediately after an iTunes update, you might
notice missing imported content and playlists. Learn how to restore your
iTunes library.

If you're missing content or playlists and didn't recently update iTunes,
get more help:

Learn what to do if you see an exclamation mark next to music in iTunes.

Restore your iTunes library

Before following the steps below, make sure that you have the latest version
of iTunes.
1.
Quit iTunes.

2.
Go to the iTunes folder that contains the iTunes library files:
Mac: From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose Go > Home.
Open the Music folder, then open the iTunes folder.
Windows: Navigate to \Users\username\Music\iTunes\.

3.
Drag the iTunes Library.itl file to your Desktop. Learn what to do if you
can't find the file.

4.
In the iTunes folder, open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder.
5.
Find the file named iTunes Library -MM-DD where -MM-DD is the date
you updated iTunes (Year-Month-Day).
If you don't see a Previous iTunes Libraries or a recent -MM-DD file,
your iTunes Library file might be in a custom location. Search for Previous
iTunes Libraries on your computer to find the most recent -MM-DD, then
continue with step 6.
6.
Select the file, then press Cmd + C (Mac) or Ctrl + C (Windows).

7.
Press Cmd + Up arrow (Mac) or Alt + Up arrow (Windows).

8.
Press Cmd + V (Mac) or Ctrl + V (Windows).

9.
The -MM-DD file should now be copied into your iTunes folder. Rename the
copy "iTunes Library.itl" (without the quotation marks).

10.
Hold down the Option key (Mac) or the Shift key (Windows) and open iTunes.

11.
When you see a message that asks you to Choose iTunes Library, click Choose
Library. Point iTunes to the file you renamed in step 9.

Your iTunes Library should now be restored. If you see all your content and
playlists in iTunes as expected, you can move the iTunes Library.itl file on
your Desktop to the Trash.

Any changes that you made to your library after the date on the iTunes
Library that you used in step 5, such as new playlists that you created or
songs that you added, might not appear in iTunes and might need to be
recreated or re-added.

Re: is there a way to copy videos and photos like windows from Iphone to Computer?

2017-10-10 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

When you connect your iPhone to your Mac, then press on the iPhone button.
There will be a table with the various categories of items you can play with.
One of them is the Summary pane. The checkbox I mentioned is in the Summary
pane.

Re: is there a way to copy videos and photos like windows from Iphone to Computer?

2017-10-10 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

You should be able to check the box to manually manage videos. When your
iPhone is connected to the Mac with a USB cable, this option should be in the
Summary pane. You still won't have the USB disk thing like on Windows, but
should be then able to copy videos over to the iPhone.

Re: Will my computer continue downloading while sleeping?

2017-10-10 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Basically, yes. I do that with most of my machines. Desktops like iMacs,
Minis and MacPros, I always set them that way. Laptops like MacBook Pro or
MacBook Air, I set it that way when plugged in and let them go to sleep when on
battery power.

Resetting an iPhone 8 after VO bug

2017-10-10 Thread Jenine Stanley
I’m running iOS 11.1 beta and my VO, which was running the British Siri voice,
just stopped. I have VO sounds but no voice. I have Siri.

I have tried the 3finger double tap and nothing speaks.
How do you reboot the phone?

I’ve tried holding the home button and power button together but that doesn’t
seem to work. I learned quickly not to do this with the volume buttons and
power button. that calls 911. Oops.

Of course Apple recommended going back to 11.02.

I’d like to continue with the beta though. in the past beta cycles,

Re: Will my computer continue downloading while sleeping?

2017-10-10 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Macintosh computers with solid state disk drives will sometimes perform
activities while asleep. This is called Power Nap. Look for it in System
Preferences Energy Saver.
The summary below the check box reads:
While sleeping, your Mac can back up using Time Machine and periodically
check for new email, calendar, and other iCloud updates

More details are at:

Best Wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Two Step Gone Wild!

2017-10-10 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Good thing, there was some talk going around about a hack that looked like
ransom ware but was actually taking advantage of stolen passwords and Find
my device functionality.

If your Apple password is also your Yahoo password or an old sony password
go and change it as soon as you can do it on a secure network. What I have
rad indicates no Apple passwords have been stolen, but that since password
hashes from various other places have folks are now attempting to use
those passwords on Apple accounts to lock users out of their system.

Best Wishes,

Jonathan

Sounds like their development is falling behind, with high sierra, all
SSD drives are converted automatically, CCC was ready to go the day
high Sierra was released.

By the way, for anyone who uses Superduper. I took a closer look at

Twitterrific returns to the Mac as a modern Twitter client w/ themes, muffle syncing, more

2017-10-10 Thread Mary Otten
Good news for Twitterrific lovers.

Twitterrific returns to the Mac as a modern Twitter client w/ themes, muffle
syncing, more
9to5Mac / Zac Hall

The Iconfactory has officially launched Twitterrific 5 for Mac after a
successful Kickstarter campaign for Project Phoenix earlier this year.
Twitterrific for macOS is a totally new version of the Twitter client with a
modern design that includes a dark theme, visual customization,
muffle/mute/timeline syncing to the iOS app, and more.

Twitterrific for Mac has been effectively dead for the last few years as the
market shifted to iOS where Twitterrific 5 has experimented with in-app
purchases to remove ads and unlock features.

With Project Phoenix, however, The Iconfactory used crowdfunding to ensure
demand for a modern Mac client before devoting months of development work to
the project. Ultimately, the Kickstarter campaign received $108,346 from 2,852
backers.

For users of Twitterrific for iOS, this launch means there’s finally a modern
version of their favorite Twitter client for the desktop again. But even if
you’re not yet a Twitterrific user, the interest in the new app existing is
both good news for the Mac as a platform as well as the Mac Twitter client
competition (which Twitter tries to prevent without maintaining its own app
well).

Twitterrific lets you choose between two themes (light and dark), a handful of
fonts including Menlo (shown below), nine text sizes ranging from Tiny to
CHOCK, and three media thumbnail options.

Changing between light and dark theme also changes the window color for menus
even if you’re not using the basic ‘Use dark menu bar and Dock’ preference
which is a nice touch, and media opens in a whimsical and fluid popover with
share options and even playback controls for video included.

Twiterrific also includes VoiceOver support for navigating the timeline,
composing tweets, and the option to add a text description to images as a
fantastic accessibility feature.

And like the iOS version, Twitterrific 5 for macOS lets you quickly fix typo
tweets with an edit workaround that actually deletes the typo tweet and
replaces it with your edited version without manually copying and pasting the
tweet.

Here’s the full feature list for Twitterrific 5.0 for macOS:

Simple to use, easy to understand
 True multi-account/multi-window support
View mentions, messages, and favorites quickly and easily
Timeline syncing of reading position across all platforms via iCloud
System-wide alerts for mentions & direct messages via Notification Center
 Fully accessible via VoiceOver
Support for Retweet (RT) & Quoted tweets
Quick access to Emoji when composing new tweets
Autocompletion of usernames & hashtags while editing tweets
View Twitter saved searches and lists
Check out global and local trending topics
Browse conversation threads between users
Support for tweet storms & chained tweet threads
Quickly Delete & Edit your own tweets
Translate tweets to your native language
Helpful color-coding of tweet types
In-app media viewing for images, animated GIFs, Instagram & more
Share a tweet with actions for email, Messages, Safari Reading List & more
Muffles & mutes synced from Twitterrific for iOS via iCloud
Robust in-app media viewer with detachable popovers
Customize the appearance of media in the timeline or hide it completely
View user profiles including past tweets, likes & mentions
Follow and unfollow other users directly from their user profile
Block and report spammers with a single click
Theme control (light or dark)
Font size & type face control
Robust keyboard control
Twitterrific 5 for macOS is available to purchase on the Mac App Store for
$19.99 and runs on macOS 10.11 El Capitan or later.

Incredibly continuing frustration with iCloud email aliases

2017-10-10 Thread Christine Grassman
Christine

Thanks, Tim.

I called Apple and they had me change my Apple ID password and sign out of all
of my devices—This seems to have done the trick.

Thanks,

Re: Will my computer continue downloading while sleeping?

2017-10-10 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

There are a few things that remain active during sleep, but downloading usually
is not one of them. If you are concerned about security and wish to limit
access, just put the display to sleep but leave the computer awake. This is
accomplished in the Energy Saver pane of System Prefs. For best security, you
should have your Mac set to require your password after sleep or screen saver,
which is in the General pane of System Prefs. With both of these items set as
suggested, your computer will be loced once the display goes to sleep but all
background activities will continue naturally.

Cloning the recovery partition makes it much easier if you want to do a
clean install on another mac, just boot from the cloned recovery, erase

each major release of the operating system, it takes a bit more time
but it's well worth it.

Thanks Mike. I am curious, what is the advantage of cloning the

Re: Two Step Gone Wild!

2017-10-10 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

A couple of things could be going on. First, it could be that someone is
attempting to log into your account from a device that is not yours, and
Two-Factor Authentication is doing its job. Second, it could be a device that
you haven't yet authorized such as an Apple TV. If you have an Apple TV using
your Apple ID, even if you're just trying to stream music to it via AirPlay, it
will broadcast this request to your devices a number of times, which can get
rather annoying. To fix this, you'll need to go to that Apple TV and pretend
that you wish to watch or play something that is connected to your Apple ID
such as a purchased movie or music. You should again get the notifications.
You should then be able to verify the inclusion of the Apple TV by entering the
code on the Apple TV interface.

HTH.

Re: increase / decrease volume on apple watch 3

2017-10-10 Thread Alex Hall
The process is a bit awkward until you get a feel for it. You double tap with
two fingers, hold on the screen after the second tap, wait for the sound, then
drag your two fingers up or down the screen to raise or lower the VoiceOver
volume. As I said, it's a little strange, and it's hard to get used to how much
sliding is needed to change the volume to where you want it. But that's the
command. There may also be a volume slider in Settings, I'm not sure.

Re: Will my computer continue downloading while sleeping?

2017-10-10 Thread 'Catherine Turner' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I don't know for sure, but I think this is to do with whether you have
the computer to sleep or the display to sleep. I don't know how
you're putting yours to sleep or whether it applies to Mac minis, but
I use the energy saver settings for my macbook and there's a
difference between computer sleep and display sleep so maybe when the
computer sleeps it doesn't continue downloading, whereas if you just
put the display to sleep it should continue.

Re: Navigating in list view

2017-10-10 Thread Alex Hall
I never interact in Finder, unless I need the spelling of a name. Just focus on
the table of files and folders, and press up or down arrow with no VO key held
down. That should let you navigate just fine.

RE: Is There No Way to Hide Purchased iBooks in iOS 10 or Later?

2017-10-10 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi List,

Just a slight change on this iBooks request,

Has anyone else noticed that iBooks closes under IOS11 when it either goes to
sleep or you stop a book playing

On the older IOS versions prior to 11, it was a case of iBooks staying open
when a book was paused or stopped by using sleep.

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this behaviour

I have done this once so let me try to explain it. YOu go into select mode,
once you have selected the books you want to hide, all the way to the end there
is an option that says hide, this should be right after delete or create a
collection.

Navigating in list view

2017-10-10 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hi all:

I'm using list view as my view for navigating inside mac, but just a
question, each time I hit cmd+down errow, I open a folder, must I
interact with the new table again and again?
is there a way , just I press down errow with cmd, I can navigate
without interacting again?

Will my computer continue downloading while sleeping?

2017-10-10 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hi all:

I set my studio mac mini computer to sleep after 5 mintes, but
yesterday, I need to leave it downloading a bing thing, so, when I
came today, I don't know if he was downloading or not, I saw some
progress, but not the progress that I was looking for in about 12
hours,
so, in this issue, what can I do?
must I disable sleeping or what?
