Installing High Sierra in a language other than English

2017-11-05 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello everyone,

Recently, I did a clean install of High Sierra on our MacBook that we use for
teaching macOS. The installation was done entirely in French on a machine that
has always run in French.
Throughout the installation process, the only voice available was Fred.
For prrevious versions of Mac OS X, as soon as the language was selected, the
voice switched to French.
Is this happening for other languages too, or is this just another case of
Apple France simply not caring about VoiceOver users?

Cheers,

Anne

RE: Apple TV and iTunes Library

2017-11-05 Thread M. Taylor
Hello E.T.,

I’m not certain but, if memory serves, the last time I relocated my iTunes
media I:

1.
Made certain that I could play all of the media in iTunes by selecting a few
items and playing them back on my computer.

2.
Reboot my computer and Start iTunes.

3.
Power off my Apple TV by unplugging it for a minute or so, then rebooting Apple
TV.

After that, all worked as expected.

content on the Mac. What am I missing?

RE: Mark on iPHone X: Left-Handed Low Vision, Display Accommodation Users, Beware

2017-11-05 Thread M. Taylor
Hello David,

I wouldn't call my discomfort with iPhone X a problem, exactly. I think it
comes down to, as with many things in life, a matter of personal preference.

My previous post, more than anything else, was to express my surprise at the
realization of just how many times I use Invert colors and how moving the
control to the right side of the device, for me anyway, may prove to be an
unnecessary adjustment given that I have the option of purchasing an iPhone 8
Plus, complete with a Home button (smile).

Before obtaining an iPhone X, I was so focused on the VoiceOver gestures and
Face ID that I neglected to consider what, for me anyway, is a crucial
accessability feature of iOS, said feature being Invert Colors via a hardware
button.

I am delighted that you like iPhone X.

Hi Mark,

I am somewhat confused about your problem. I too am left-handed. I find the
iPhone 10 to be easier for triple-tapping the power button. Holding the iPhone
X in my left hand, with my thumb just below the volume buttons, my left index
finger lands on the power button. If I place my index finger on the top edge
near the right corner, my left middle finger lands on the power button. Thus, I
am able to press, or multi-press, the power button with either finger on my
left hand whilst holding the iPhone in the left hand..

OK, so there is no problem accessing Bookshare’s html files in contracted
Braille when I have my preferences set for that, but I thought (apparently
mistakenly) that I would be able to read brf files from Bookshare, BARD Mobile,
NBP, etc.,` with a Braille display. However, on my MacBook, I am getting that
there is “no application” which can open a BRF file. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance.

Question About Shortcuts While Interacting with Apple Music

2017-11-05 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hey all,

Not sure if this question has been brought up before, but I was wondering if
there exists any sort of script or any way of creating keyboard shortcuts to
better interact with Apple Music on the Mac? For instance, when I hear a song I
like, I’d ideally like to be able to simply navigate to iTunes, hit one
keystroke to mark it as “liked” and continue with my business. I’d like to do
the same with adding songs to my library. Is this doable at all? At present,
I’d have to navigate to the actions menu and select “like” that way, which
isn’t the worst thing in the world, but I was just wondering if there was a
quicker way.

Thanks for any direction here.

RE: Counting my Money

2017-11-05 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Ramy,

Currently, I use an app called Money Reader on my Mac to read money.

I don't remember the name of the company but just type in Money Reader, in the
App Store Search field and it should come up. I use it almost everyday.

If memory serves, it's not free but very reasonable.

Mark on iPHone X: Left-Handed Low Vision, Display Accommodation Users, Beware

2017-11-05 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

Well, I now have an iPHone X, on loan for a few days.

I must say, as has been reported by others, that the new Home/App switcher
gesture commands work beautifully with VoiceOver. Also, Face ID was a
breeze to set up, however, I would like to note that I have enough vision to
see exactly how to position the front-facing camera.

Be that as it may, as a low-vision user, I toggle the Invert Color feature
on and off, countless times during the day.

On previous iPHone models, this was not a problem being that the Home button
was located in the bottom center of the phone.

However, with iPHone X, I must use the side button, located on the right
side of the device.

I am left-handed. In fact, to my surprise, I realized that I am really,
really a left-handed person when it comes to iPhone. (smile)

Consequently, it is no longer as convenient to use Invert Colors as I am
having to toggle this feature with either my right hand or hold the phone in
a slightly awkward position in order to reach the side button with my middle
finger on my left hand.

I do not have a case for this phone so don't know if I'd be able to reach
the button with my left hand were the device placed inside such an
accessory.

In terms of making a decision as to which phone to purchase, I will need
more time with iPhone X. However, I can tell you that, at this point, I am
leaning towards iPHone 8 Plus if for no other reason but that I prefer the
triple-click button to be in a more neutral location on the phone than is
currently the case on iPHone X.

If there were no iPHone 8 series, I would most likely purchase iPhone X and
learn to live with it; however, currently I have a choice and for this I am
grateful.

What I hope is that, someday, Apple, along with all the other hardware
manufacturers, will allow user-defined hardware button assignments. For
example, iPHone 11 would have 4 hardware buttons, 2 on each side and the
user could determine which is for volume up, Siri, Screen Lock, etc.

Per chance to dream, eh? (smile)

Mark

Re: Very Urgent help, Can not update my phone when he asked for Itunes

2017-11-05 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi Ramy,

the basic answer is n"No". There are ways using Caching content and such that
will allow for very fast downloads locally. When using Caching content
features, the update is downloaded to the Caching computer, then when the
subsequent requests are made for that update/download, it is downloaded from
the content computer within your network. This process makes the download
extremely quick since it is coming from something on the local network as
opposed to somewhere off on the Web. I suspect that's what was going on in
your case.

Confused about reading brf files on Braille display connected to iPhone or MacBook Air

2017-11-05 Thread Christine Grassman
OK, so there is no problem accessing Bookshare’s html files in contracted
Braille when I have my preferences set for that, but I thought (apparently
mistakenly) that I would be able to read brf files from Bookshare, BARD Mobile,
NBP, etc.,` with a Braille display. However, on my MacBook, I am getting that
there is “no application” which can open a BRF file. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance.

Ok I can try that and see. Be a while before I can do it but will report
back shortly.

Tim,
I do not have the require password enabled. I have tried other settings
to no avail.

Hi All,

I may have a fix for now. It has worked for me in two different scenarios. In the VO
Utility, under the Web category, make sure that the "Enable Live Regions"
checkbox is not checked. This seems to allow VO to remain speaking for an extended
length of time. During this testing, I had my MBP set that the computer never goes to
sleep, and that the display would go to sleep after one minute. I had it read a long,
boring legal document on school fees and VO read the entire document, then after one
minute of silence, the Login Panel spoke. I also tested it with a rather long
explanation of security, authentication and authorization within the base level of the
MacOS. After about 10 minutes, the Login Panel had not reared its ugly head. Of course,
if you use the Live Regions in web-pages often, this isn't a good fix, but for now, it
has worked for me.

Any others who wish to try this workaround/fix are welcome to do so and post
results here. I realize that just because it worked for me, it does not always
mean that it will work for others in all situations.

Subject: iOS11.1 possible bug, Doc on iPhone7

Hi all
I’m experiencing a possible Voiceover bug on my iPhone 7 since I updated to iOS
11.1.

Apps in the Doc doesn’t announce that there are unread messages, for example my
Mail and Whatsapp which is in my Doc. When putting my finger on Mail it just
says “0 new messages”, but when I open the app there are unread mails, same
with Whatsapp which is also in my Doc.
With apps which is not placed in my Doc like Facebook and Messages everything
works as it should, Facebook announces when it has unread notifications and
Messages announces when there are unread messages.

Please test and give feedback so that I can report this to Apple if it is a bug.

Thanks

Nickus

2017-11-05 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hello all:

I'm inneed for an APp on mac that can count my incoming and outgoing money.
I tried on Applevis but may be am not using the correct search words.
so is there a good app that can do this? and it's accessibility is ok?
also it will be better if it can sync the data to Iphone to be able to
write if I did anything without my laptop with me.

THanks in advance.

2017-11-05 Thread Ramy Moustafa

drives to install it if needed, without getting it from the App store
each time, if somehitn ghappened?

should get you past that barrier, then you can change your pass-code
