RE: it's here, the X

2017-11-15 Thread M. Taylor
Great Report, Simon.

I look forward to your next one, especially your Face ID experience.

Yes, the phone is surprisingly slim when compared to iPhone 8 Plus.

Based on your statement, may we assume that you are using a pass code to unlock
your 10? or are you, "going commando", (big smile) with no password protection
whatsoever. (smile)

Hi Mark,

Well I have to admit that I didn't get it until 5:30pm lastnight so when I got
to the setting up face id section I skipped it as the light was getting low and
it seemed I couldn’t' look directly at the screen.

So I'll leave that until the weekend and set it up then.

Interesting the using the device without a home button but it's not that
difficult once you get use to the slide up the screen.

What I really have noticed is its speed and simple quickness when performing a
task on screen.

And I am very surprised by the size,
I thought it would be larger than it is.

After using a 7+ I'm inclined to think it's even sdmaller than the 7 or 8, yet
I believe it's slightly larger.

Still a lot of working things out before I really get use to it.

More to report as things move forward.

Hello Simon.

Your post made me smile.

Congratulations on your iPhone 10. I’m not certain but, so far, I believe you
and Cliff are the only two who have received the unit. I know several other
people on the list are expecting theirs, any day now.

I have no doubt but that you will continue to love the device.

What do you think of Face ID, so far?

Also, please keep us informed on your Apple Pay experiences with Face ID, okay?

Hi List,

So today I received notification from my mobile provider that my iPhone X had
arrived,

And quite frankly it’s like being on a first date,

I’m kind of concerned about touching it in case I do something wrong,

I will say that setting up the device out of the box and using iCloud backups
doesn’t work when your back ups are on IOS Public beta versions, and the new
device was IOS 11 production release…

A bit of playing allowed me to reset the device back to the factory start point
and run through without an issue

So far after playing around for an hour or so, I’m actually really impressed
with what they have done,

Once you get passed the fact there is no home button it’s actually easy to work
with the slide finger up to get the app switcher and home screens.

The device is very quick, and although smaller physically it’s stil got great
screen realestate to work with,

So I’d say so far it’s been worth the wait but still more playing around to
come over the next couple of days

At least the iPhone x doesn’t slap me if I put my hand in the wrong place.

RE: Looking for a Lightning, Female, to USB, Thunderbolt, and/or 3.5mm, Male, Adapter

2017-11-15 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Mark,

Great question and I've asked the same thing a number of times.

I must admit I didn't think of the lightening to USB but this doesn't seem to
be available either.

I've tried ali express as well as a number of Kiwi providers but still nothing
 found.

Subject: Looking for a Lightning, Female, to USB, Thunderbolt, and/or 3.5mm,
Male, Adapter

Hello Everyone,

You know, I would like to be able to use my Apple Earpods headset on a
non-lightning enabled device such as a PC, my current MacBook Pro, and/or in an
automobile audio system.

In order to do this, I am searching for a female lightning to either a 3.5mm,
male, Thunderbolt, male, and/or USB, male, adapter.

Try as I may, I cannot seem to locate any on the web.

I have gone to two different Apple Stores and no one in either of them are
aware of any such adapters.

They must, however, exist, right?

Remember, the key here is that the adapter must be a Lightning female to a
non-Lightning male device.

If you know from where I can purchase any or all of these three types of
adapters, please let me know.

Thank you,

Mark

RE: it's here, the X

2017-11-15 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Alex,

Yeah I still find it odd but I really have to say it's not as bad as people
might think,

For a start it was crap as I couldn't get it to work for me.

Now although it's only been 24 hours I've pretty much got it

It's a case of tap on the screen to wake the device then slide firmly one
finger up from the botton edge of the screen until you feel a vibration under
finger and then it will have woken enough to either enter the pin code or use
face id.

Still as I haven't yet setup face id yet so that's a weekend job as the light
wasn't in my favour lastnight.

Still lots more hopefully to come on the x.

My main question for blind iPhone X users is about the home button. I've seen
some real negativity on Twitter about the decision to remove the home button,
but have not come across any such negativity in the real world. How do users
like the change? The Touch Bar on the MacBook, for instance, is plenty usable
but often less efficient than physical keys are. Or is it more like the
two-finger gesture on iPad under iOS11, which makes accessing apps faster and
more fluid, at least to me? Or is it something else entirely?

iPhone X and 8 get faster wireless charging with iOS 11.2 - CNET

2017-11-15 Thread M. Taylor
CNET News - Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 2:01 PM
iPhone X and 8 get faster wireless charging with iOS 11.2 - CNET

The new iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X all come with wireless charging.
James Martin/CNET
Apple's latest iOS update makes wireless charging on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8
Plus and iPhone X 50 percent faster.
Currently the three iPhones wirelessly charge at a rate of 5 watts, but the
iOS 11.2 update allows them to charge at a rate of 7.5w, which is a 50
percent increase. The charging update was spotted and tested out by
MacRumors.
Although wireless charging is new to the iPhone, it's been around on Android
devices for several years. iPhones use the Qi wireless charging standard,
which maxes out at a rate of 15w. Samsung's Galaxy Note 8, for example,
supports 15-watt fast wireless charging.
You won't need to buy a new charger to take advantage of faster speeds. The
Mophie and Belkin wireless chargers that Apple sells are already capable of
delivering 7.5w of power. Apple has said on the chargers' listings since
their releases that it will enable "fast wireless charging" with a later
software update -- it's likely that iOS 11.2 is that update.

Now Playing: Watch this: AirPower: Apple's charge-everything tech
1:07
Apple is also planning on releasing its own wireless charging mat, AirPower,
that's designed to charge multiple Apple products at once. It isn't clear if
AirPower would use the faster charging speeds.
To push those charging speeds, the iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus will charge even
faster with a USB-C to Lightning cable setup. The configuration requires
buying a handful of accessories, but it can reach top charging speeds if you
don't mind the wires. If you want to stay wireless, you're stuck at 7.5w for
now.
Apple didn't respond to a request for comment on this story.
Does the Mac still matter? Apple execs explain why the MacBook Pro was over
four years in the making, and why we should care.

edition.

Re: it's here, the X

2017-11-15 Thread Kliphton Miller
the no home button is fine. Like simon said, once you get use to it it’s fine.
You place your finger, start sliding up, the first feedback you get is to
close the app or folder, if you keep going you get the app switcher. I think
it will come down to personal preference, I like the no home button, but a lot
of sited useres like the 8 because it still has it. I have also learned you
can still get to notifications and the control center the exact same way. This
one is hit or miss, but sometimes when I am in a folder, I just place my finger
at the bottom of the screen, and press down a bit and the folder closes for me.
Not every time, but about 45 percent of the time.

Looking for a Lightning, Female, to USB, Thunderbolt, and/or 3.5mm, Male, Adapter

2017-11-15 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

You know, I would like to be able to use my Apple Earpods headset on a
non-lightning enabled device such as a PC, my current MacBook Pro, and/or in
an automobile audio system.

In order to do this, I am searching for a female lightning to either a
3.5mm, male, Thunderbolt, male, and/or USB, male, adapter.

Thank you,

Mark

2017-11-15 Thread Alex Hall
My main question for blind iPhone X users is about the home button. I've seen
some real negativity on Twitter about the decision to remove the home button,
but have not come across any such negativity in the real world. How do users
like the change? The Touch Bar on the MacBook, for instance, is plenty usable
but often less efficient than physical keys are. Or is it more like the
two-finger gesture on iPad under iOS11, which makes accessing apps faster and
more fluid, at least to me? Or is it something else entirely?

people on the list are expecting theirs, any day now.

I have no doubt but that you will continue to love the device.

What do you think of Face ID, so far?

Also, please keep us informed on your Apple Pay experiences with Face ID, okay?

Subject: it's here, the X

A Quick Tip for Low Vision iOS 11 Users

2017-11-15 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

If you're like me, you may find it much easier to read/see white text on a
black background. This also holds true for distinguishing the icons on the
iOS launch pad. This is to say, it's easier to see the icons when placed on
a dark or black, solid, background.

For many years, I have been lobbying Apple to include a solid black
background image in its native wallpaper collection.

In iOS 11, they have finally answered the call by including that long
awaited black background image in the wallpaper area.

Check it out and give it a try.

Mark

it's here, the X

2017-11-15 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi List,

So today I received notification from my mobile provider that my iPhone X had
arrived,

And quite frankly it's like being on a first date,

I'm kind of concerned about touching it in case I do something wrong,

I will say that setting up the device out of the box and using iCloud backups
doesn't work when your back ups are on IOS Public beta versions, and the new
device was IOS 11 production release...

A bit of playing allowed me to reset the device back to the factory start point
and run through without an issue

So far after playing around for an hour or so, I'm actually really impressed
with what they have done,

Once you get passed the fact there is no home button it's actually easy to work
with the slide finger up to get the app switcher and home screens.

The device is very quick, and although smaller physically it's stil got great
screen realestate to work with,

So I'd say so far it's been worth the wait but still more playing around to
come over the next couple of days

At least the iPhone x doesn't slap me if I put my hand in the wrong place.

Subject: This simple hack using aluminium foil could improve your home Wi-Fi

I do this to good effect. Read the article link below for why it works.

Place the foil a few inches away from the wifi antenna oppisite the direction
you wish to direct and increase the signal.

If possible, put the antenna in a corner with the foil on both sides behind it
in a v shape for the strongest signal. away from the corner.

Put it under the antenna if you want it to be directed upward to another floor.

Experiment for best results.
