Thanks Jonathan.
That worked perfectly.

Step 4: Re-connect your Mac to the MagSafe power source. If the
battery needs charging and there’s power, the familiar chime you’re
used to hearing on your iOS devices should trigger.

  How to disable power chime:

Just paste the following line into the Terminal window:

|defaults write com.apple.PowerChime ChimeOnAllHardware -bool
false;killall PowerChime|

Hit Enter and you’re good.

The command kills the running process which takes care of playing the
chime while disabling the feature through the defaults command string.

How to play power chime manually:

Paste this into the Terminal window and hit Enter:

|afplay

/System/Library/CoreServices/PowerChime.app/Contents/Resources/connect_power.aif|

You should head the chime immediately after hitting Enter.

For those interested in technicalities, the Terminal command described
in this article tells OS X to always play the power chime, regardless
of the model of your Mac. It also launches the tiny PowerChime
application which must be running in the background in order for the
power chime to trigger upon connecting the device to power.

But even this little feature couldn’t have gone without the attention
to detail Apple’s always been associated with.

As OS X Daily explains, if you keep an eye on the battery icon in your
Mac’s menu bar, you’ll realize OS X triggers the power chime at the
exact same time as the charging bolt appears on the battery icon.

mac-charging-indicator-menu-bar

“Note the battery charging indicator will only display onscreen if
there is less than 100 percent power available with the Mac battery
and the Mac is either in sleep mode or the screen is locked,” OS X
Daily said.

Again, the new MacBook ships with the power chime enabled out of the
box, providing an auditory confirmation that the charging cable is
attached to its USB-C port and the computer is charging.

lowered prices on mac book air and iMac with ssds for sale...

2018-07-08 Thread Cameron Strife
Hi all.

Mark gave me permission to post this on the list.

I've lowered the prices on my mac book air and iMac for sale.

Prices include packing, shipping, tracking, and full insurance via
USPS 2-3 day priority mail to anywhere in the lower 48 states. Pay pal
preferred. Shipping elsewhere will cost extra. If interested, please
write me off list at: came...@cameronstrife.com

Both machines will come with a fresh install of Mac OS high siera.

21 inch Apple iMac with Intel quad core I7 processor at 2.8gHz per
core with turbo boost up to 3.4gHz, 16gb of ddr3 ram, internal 256gb
solid state hard drive, internal 1tb mechanical drive at 7200rpm,
Intel Thunderbolt, Firewire 800, airport wireless, bluetooth, sd card
reader, superdrive etc. Machine is in good condition with no heating
issues or hard drive performance etc. (There is a small dent on the
right edge of the monitor portion but this will not get any worse and
does not effect the display quality according to a couple of sighted
people I had check it out. It is an easy and cheap repair but I'm not
attempting it. In any case, it's purely cosmetic.) Keyboard, mouse,
and power chord included. I can also include a four terabyte USB 3.0
external hard drive that's formatted to work with both mac and windows
so you can have a three drive setup for audio/midi work. I have been
running OSX and windows ten on this machine and the performance is
really snappy! Windows seven 64 bit also worked very well on here.
$1650

Apple Mac Book Air 11 inch laptop with Intel I5 dual core processor,
8gb ddr3 ram, Thunderbolt, glass touch pad, and a 1 terabyte solid
state drive. (The ssd upgrade alone from Apple was an additional
$600.) Case and Apple charger included. machine has no issues of any
kind and has no dents or dings etc.
$1275

Both for $2800 including shipping.

Thanks,

Cameron.

I have no idea exactly what happens since any Google search I tried just says
look at these pictures. But it is certainly possible to completely redo what is
where and what the option key might do. I don’t know if ISO means the keyboard
layout is following an International standard or if it means that one can enter
more international characters. The only thing talked about is that the Spanish
ISO keyboard can be used to type any Latin language.

Might be interesting to see if perhaps control and arrow keys move by word like
they do on Windows systems. I do remember something from my Sun UNIX days about
control-W being a standard for close window.

all of the differences with the Spanish keyboard are in the punctuation, keys
thinks like ; is ñ and - is an accent.

is where one can chnge the language on the fly. Typically with just

Re: Making the Mac play a sound when connecting the adapter

2018-07-08 Thread Jonathan Cohn
How to enable power chime:
Step 1: Disconnect your Mac from power.

Step 2: Launch Terminal using Spotlight, or open the application manually (it’s
inside your Mac’s Applications folder).

Step 3: Paste the following line into Terminal and hit Enter:

defaults write com.apple.PowerChime ChimeOnAllHardware -bool true; open
/System/Library/CoreServices/PowerChime.app &
Step 4: Re-connect your Mac to the MagSafe power source. If the battery needs
charging and there’s power, the familiar chime you’re used to hearing on your
iOS devices should trigger.

How to disable power chime:
Just paste the following line into the Terminal window:

defaults write com.apple.PowerChime ChimeOnAllHardware -bool false;killall
PowerChime
Hit Enter and you’re good.

The command kills the running process which takes care of playing the chime
while disabling the feature through the defaults command string.

How to play power chime manually:
Paste this into the Terminal window and hit Enter:

afplay
/System/Library/CoreServices/PowerChime.app/Contents/Resources/connect_power.aif
You should head the chime immediately after hitting Enter.

For those interested in technicalities, the Terminal command described in this
article tells OS X to always play the power chime, regardless of the model of
your Mac. It also launches the tiny PowerChime application which must be
running in the background in order for the power chime to trigger upon
connecting the device to power.

But even this little feature couldn’t have gone without the attention to detail
Apple’s always been associated with.

As OS X Daily explains, if you keep an eye on the battery icon in your Mac’s
menu bar, you’ll realize OS X triggers the power chime at the exact same time
as the charging bolt appears on the battery icon.

“Note the battery charging indicator will only display onscreen if there is
less than 100 percent power available with the Mac battery and the Mac is
either in sleep mode or the screen is locked,” OS X Daily said.

Again, the new MacBook ships with the power chime enabled out of the box,
providing an auditory confirmation that the charging cable is attached to its
USB-C port and the computer is charging.

Can anyone assist with this?

Re: Siri voices for voice over on Mac?

2018-07-08 Thread 'Shawn Krasniuk' via MacVisionaries

This statement is wrong. Siri voices do not work with VoiceOver. Unless you've
found a way to get them to work with VoiceOver with some sort of hack, it's not
possible.

Hi Alex,

The book is called “My Mac Pages,” by Anne and Archie Robertson. It’s

Re: Reading an E-Mail Thread from Oldest to newest

2018-07-08 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
While I don't have an answer to your question, I note that Microsoft Outlook
for Mac (which I need to use to access one of my accounts) does this by
default. That is, if you expand a thread using the Right-Arrow key, focus is
placed on the oldest unread message in the thread, from which you can move up
to read the remaining (more recent) messages.

I am using the “on-board e-mail client” for MacOS and have tried setting
the order both ways, but it does not seem to make any difference when reading
through the suite of messages in a thread.

i often prefer reading a thread without expanding it so I can simply delete
the currently read message and automatically open the next item. The problem
is that the next item is the message sent just prior to the currently read
message. I wish there was a way to read a thread from oldest (presumably
original) message to most recent message.

Where to get the book on using Pages with VoiceOver?

2018-07-08 Thread 'Alex Hall' via MacVisionaries
Hello all,
Someone on Twitter is asking me about using Pages with VO. This isn't something
I do often, so I'm not the best to ask. Someone on this list has a book on this
topic, though. Where can that book be obtained? I want to give this person the
link. Thanks.
