Re: How to Protect and Clean your Apple Card, Apple Support

2019-08-23 Thread Steve Matzura
While that may seem funny, if you got the card for its show value, then
it's to be taken seriously. Titanium is a soft metal, easily scratched.
The laser-etched logo and holoimaging processes are also easily damaged
by coming into contact with  rough cloth. What Apple (or the actual
physical card issuer) should do is issue the card in a protective
sleeve, even one with a thin foil surrounding it to help protect it
against magnetic damage as described in the article. EZ-Pass
transponders come in these kinds of sleeve protectors.

About the titanium Apple Card

The titanium Apple Card is laser-etched with the card holder's name and the
Apple logo. A white finish is achieved through a multi-layer coating process
that's added to the titanium base material.
If your titanium Apple Card comes into contact with hard surfaces or
materials, it's possible that the coating can be damaged.

How to clean your titanium Apple Card

If your titanium Apple Card comes into contact with contaminants that can
cause stains, follow these steps to clean your card:
1. Gently wipe with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free microfiber cloth.
2. Moisten a soft, microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol and gently
wipe the card.
Don't use window or household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays,
solvents, ammonia, or abrasives to clean your titanium Apple Card.
Some fabrics, like leather and denim, might cause permanent discoloration
that will not wash off.

How to safely store and carry your titanium Apple Card

. Store your titanium Apple Card in a wallet, pocket, or bag made of
soft materials.
. Place your card in a slot in your wallet or billfold without
touching another credit card. If two credit cards are placed in the same
slot your card could become scratched.
. Don't place or store your titanium Apple Card card near magnets. If
your card is placed close to a magnetic latch on a purse or bag, the
magnetic strip can become demagnetized.

I encountered this issue when I was using Apple Music, and deleting them solved
it. However, I don't subscribe to Apple Music at the moment.

Re: Ringer Volume Question

2019-08-23 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

That setting is the one you need. If it says, "Change with buttons. Off.",
then the ringer will stay at one volume no matter what you do with the volume
of music, VO etc. If that setting says, "Change with buttons. On.", then
whatever volume you have VO, music etc set to will be the volume of the ringer
when a call comes in.

Hope that clears things up for you.

Apple music showing albums twice .

2019-08-23 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
I think i have written about this but i have a question.
My Apple music seems to show some albums twice where one album has some of the
song while the other is complete.
Als i have problems with uncomplete albums telling me that i can’t listen to
this track in my country or such odd message.
My question is if a total logout from Icloud would help?
I have tried turning on and off apple music on the affected device with no help.
That did not help.
Its a bit annoying when i want to play an album and its not complete but has
been before.
If this continues i might trash apple music and go to spotify instead.

Re: Killing the Touch Pad

2019-08-23 Thread Pete De Vasto
If your computer has a USB port, and you happen to have an old mouse somewhere,
plugging that mouse in and putting it out of reach so you don’t actually move
it around might help. I’ve got a MacBook Air with a track pad, and even when I
turn Trackpad Commander off I still have issues sometimes, and connecting the
mouse does help. Connecting and not using a Bluetooth mouse might also do the
trick.

Re: Stopping Display Sharing to Apple TV

2019-08-23 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

When you say that you turn off AirPlay, what exactly are you doing? If you are
going into System Prefs, then turning it off via the pop-up menu, then that's
fine. Technically, you're not really using AirPlay anyway since you've
physically connected the HDMI dongle to the Mini and your TV. That is simply
using the TV as the connected monitor instead of a computer style monitor.
Real AirPlay does it wirelessly to an Apple TV or other Airplay enabled device.

name of the HDMI dongle I have connected to the Mini instead of a monitor, but
unchecking this box seems to do nothing at all. The menu closes, the mirroring

correct procedure to stop mirroring a display?

Sounds like a timing issue. Syncing isn't perfect, but little tricks like that

Re: Synchronizing Messages Between Mac and iPhone

2019-08-23 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

These work more or less normally for me. Sometimes, messages take a little
extra time to sync, especially when messing with changing phone numbers in
group conversations, but works as it should in time. Contacts don't always
sync immediately, but will within less than one minute after opening the app.
If you have messages syncing to iCloud, then I suggest that you turn iMessages
off on the iPhone, restart the iPhone, then re-enable the iMessages service.
Because things are synced to iCloud, you shouldn't lose anything. Similarly,
you can do this on each of your other devices including your Mac if things
don't fix themselves after doing it on the iPhone. A simple restart will not
suffice, it seems like the resources connected with the iMessage service need a
reset, which is done by kind of resetting the service as I mentioned.

HTH.

Re: Synchronizing Messages Between Mac and iPhone

2019-08-23 Thread Dave Carlson
Steve,
Yes, and my wife who is sighted also has the same behavior with her Mac, iPad,
and iPhone. It seems like we need to have some sort of refresh process for
iCloud that is either set to update periodically or is set to sync continuously
when anything changes, whether an addition to , or a removal of items in the
Messages or Contacts. In my experience, both Mail and Calendar work fine and
are always in sync — so why not the others? And I’ve not even started looking
at Notes and Voice Memos to see if there are any concern there.

Re: Synchronizing Messages Between Mac and iPhone

2019-08-23 Thread Steve Matzura
I've had a similar problem since forever, Dave, even though all my
devices show I'm using iCloud for the Messages *and* Contacts
applications. What happens with me is that messages come to all my
devices--two Macs, one phone, one iPad, and if I delete from one, I'm
expecting that all the others will have that message deleted, too. But
they don't. With Contacts, if I add a contact using one device,  I fully
expect that it should appear on all the others, but it never does. Anyone
who can offer help on these two problems, which I suspect are related in
some very esoteric way, I greatly appreciate your efforts in advance.

Seems not to be working. Mac messages are way out of date. I thought this was
