Re: Refreshing iCloud Drive

2020-02-21 Thread Dave Carlson
Okay, I went back to iCloud settings in the iPhone, and iCloud in System
Preferences, made sure I had everything checked, and then launched iCloud.com
in Safari on the Mac. After I logged in and went through
all that 6-digit verification code stuff…dah-dah-bang, gah-dah-boom! It’s
working again. Thanks for pushing me in the right direction.

waiting is to try and activate voiceover with command+f5. If voiceover comes
on, it means I’m in the recovery mode. There you will find a table with
options. I think the last option in the table is disk utility. Position
voiceover cursor on it and continue. Once in disk utility you should be able
to find terminal in disk utility menu with the usual vo+m key combination.
Hope I can remember this right.

Good luck

If it's not a brand new thing, I have seen it take a while for the iPhone to
see updates or changes to files. Not a real long time, maybe 5 minutes or so.
The only way I know to refresh things, would be to either turn off iCloud Drive
on the iPhone, then back out of Settings, wait a minute or two then re-enable
it. I don't recommend that approach. Alternatively, you could close the Files
app from the app switcher, then upon re-opening it, it would do a poll of the
existing iCloud Drive data. Again, this should only be necessary if you've
been syncing iCloud Drive for a long time and this is just happening lately.
Finally, of course, there's always the good old restart of the iPhone that

Finally, of course, there's always the good old restart of the iPhone that
likes to fix all sorts of unknown issues.

Re: Refreshing iCloud Drive

2020-02-21 Thread J. Cyr
I ran into this issue with the Notes App just yesterday. Being very new to
the Mac I presumed I was missing something or doing it wrong and called Apple
Accessibility. After going through everything he knew to do the rep assisting
me concluded that it was a technical problem, referred it to the correct
department and arranged a call back with me next week. Very interesting to
hear I may not be the only one experiencing this problem.

Re: Searching in mail

2020-02-21 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi Chris,

It sounds like your computer lost the search field in the upgrade to Catalina
as well. the only way to fix this is to use the Customize toolbar item under
the View menu. the problem is that this dialog/window does not work with VO
dragging in any way shape or form. I have reported it to Apple, but it
wouldn't hurt if someone else did. So, your options are to get sighted
assistance to have them use the Customize toolbar window to drag the search
field back into place, or to try dragging it yourself and guessing where to
drop it. The dragging needs to be done with your Trackpad or mouse, as it
cannot be done with VO methods. I was able to make it work without sighted
assistance, but it took a lot of patience and may have been a fluke that I even
got it to drop in the right place.

Well, I start by typing control-option F while in a message list. You should
then be able to start typing, once you have a couple of letters in then you
should be able to use downarrow to find a list of completions.

Re: Working with Numbers and Voiceover

2020-02-21 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Apple has books for both iPad and Mac in the Apple BookStore. Search for
Numbers for Mac Starter Guide or Numbers for iPad Starter Guide. It's not
specifically for VoiceOver, but will certainly give you the basics and more for
Numbers.

Re: Ringer and alerts volume on the iPhone

2020-02-21 Thread Dave Carlson
Agree with Tim’s assessment. Audio routing has become, and is continuing to be
very complicated. We have all these audio channels available now, and no way to
easily distinguish one from another. I have bluetooth hearing aids, and will
attest to that ringer blasting into my ears when a call comes in. I have to
keep my ringer volume set low and not have the buttons involved, to prevent the
overwhelming sound. That means the volume coming from the phone speakers is
lower, as well.
The only final answer would be that Apple would code all their audio channels
so they route through a dedicated mixer either through the control center or
give access to app developers. Being able to individually and independently
control each audio channel is really the only complete answer to these problems.
Just counting on my fingers, I believe there are 4 output channels (phone
headset, speakers, headphone jack, and Bluetooth) not all of which are stereo.
Then the input sources as Tim wrote. A very complex traffic pattern to control,
just as in a recording studio or live performance stage, where there is a sound
engineer at the control board, deciding on what goes where.
Are you listening, Apple? or do you have your buds muted?

Re: Ringer and alerts volume on the iPhone

2020-02-21 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Petrus,

It sounds like the external Bluetooth speaker is messing with you. The iPhone
has multiple channels for sound including the internal speaker, , the earpiece
speaker, headphones and external AirPlay or Bluetooth sound. Normally, these
can be adjusted independently but I believe the confusion starts to manifest
itself when Bluetooth speakers come in the mix. It seems that when the
Bluetooth speaker is connected, often the ringer sound is routed through that
Bluetooth speaker when a call comes in. You'll also note that when a Bluetooth
speaker is connected, modifying the volume only affects the output volume of
the Audio Book, music or streaming audio. Adjusting the volume does not change
the volume of VO if VO is still routed through the internal speaker. So, I
guess what I'm saying is that it's complicated when you start having multiple
audio sources going at once, especially when you add VO sound to the equation.
I guess that you could say that I'm not really giving a good answer here, just
a bunch of excuses, but I'm just attempting to enlighten you as to the
complexity of the audio routing behaviour when all these factors are involved.
Whether it should or shouldn't behave a certain way when the Bluetooth speaker
is connected, I'm not sure, but when there's a not a Bluetooth speaker
involved, you are correct in how you believe it should behave.

Hi Shawn,

I know what you mean about VO notifications interrupting other things, but I
guess I’ve just gotten used to it. I had Yurifuquru (sp) on my Mac, but my
understanding is that it doesn’t work any more. I’ll give Night Owl a try.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi all,
I have change with buttons turned off for my ringer and alerts volume on my
iPhone turned off but the volume still seems to be getting turned down as I
adjust the volume of my audio book or music when I have my bluetooth speaker
attached. I thought having the change with buttons turned off should leave the
volume of the ringer and alerts alone?

Apple Event Rumored for March 31: iPhone 9, iPad Pro With 3D Sensing,
More?
Apple often holds its first media event of the year in March, and that trend
might continue in 2020.

A report this week claimed that Apple is aiming to host a special event on
Tuesday, March
31,
with rumors suggesting that the company may introduce a new lower-cost "iPhone
9"
 and refreshed iPad Pro
models
sporting a triple-lens rear camera system with 3D sensing.

Keep in mind that Apple's plans may change due to the unpredictability of the
COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak in China. Apple already announced that it does
not expect to meet its revenue
guidance
that it provided for the March quarter due to the outbreak.
