Anchor podcasting app for iPhone and iPad updated with new remote recording
features
By Chance Miller

Anchor is one of the easiest ways to launch a podcast, and its new focus is
on making it easy to record remotely with other people. The Spotify-owned
service announced today that it is introducing "Record With Friends 2.0"
directly in the Anchor app for iPhone and iPad.

For those unfamiliar, Anchor is an all-in-one podcast creation platform that
allows creators to record, distribute, and monetize shows entirely from the
Anchor app.

The "Record With Friends" feature will allow up to 4 people to join your
podcast recording simply by clicking an invitation link. Anchor handles the
technical side of things completely, so you don't have anything to worry
about while recording.

Invite up to 4 other people to join your recording. The invite link will
open in your guests' preferred browser on desktop or mobile (support for
Google Chrome coming soon), or in the Anchor app, if they have it. To help
you keep track of who's speaking, each guest will be asked to type in their
name before joining.

The feature comes as people everywhere practice working from home amid the
COVID-19 pandemic:

Talking to each other, sharing stories, and sparking conversations are a
crucial part of staying connected, and right now, podcasting is one of many
ways those connections can be maintained. So we wanted to make it easier to
record with others, even from a distance.
You can download the Anchor app on the App Store for free, optimized for
both iPhone and iPad.

2020-03-24 Thread PRAMIT BHARGAVA
Hi Dan,

If you're using Mojave, Terminal is more secure in this so you need to go
to system preferences/security and privacy and the 'privacy' tab. in the
box to the left, roll down to "full disk access" and check the box next to
"terminal" otherwise it won't let you access the directory.

Hope this helps

Re: Drag and drop

2020-03-24 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

• Navigate to the item you wish to drag.
• Press VO-cmd-f5 to route the mouse to the VO cursor
• Press VO-cmd-shift-space to invoke the mouse-down action.
• Navigate to the drop location. Use VO-f1-f1, the App Chooser, if you're
dragging to a different app.
• When at the drop location, press VO-cmd-f5 again to make sure that the mouse
is routed to the VO cursor location.
• Press VO-cmd-shift-space to invoke the mouse-up action which will drop it.

A few things to note. Depending on your keyboard settings, you may need to add
the FN key to some of these combinations, especially when routing the mouse to
the VO cursor location. There are also times that I've found it useful to
interact with an item when dropping on it. Lastly, this is an awkward process
sometimes that does not always work the first time. See how it goes and update
me/us if you have problems and we'll go from there with any suggestions.

Good luck.

Hi Eric,

The process you've outlined is more or less the same as I. Wow, either great
minds think alike, or fools seldom differ :). My MBP is similar to yours in
that it is a 2017 model with 16 GB RAM, 4 Thunderbolt ports, Touch Bar etc. I
move messages from one account into a different account's mailbox sometimes as
well, and it seems seamless to me. Maybe I'm missing something, or maybe I'm
just having better luck than you.

It is slow when I first do this. If I move a second message it is often more

Thank you for the thoughtful replies.

It is now slow but much more usable.

I keep a lot of messages in organized mailboxes under many accounts and I

Full third-party cookie blocking comes to Safari two years ahead of Chrome

By: Wesley Hilliard

Tuesday, March 24, 2020 3:51 PM
Along with iOS 13.4, Safari was updated with improved Intelligent Tracking
Prevention to include full third-party cookie blocking and other privacy
features.

Safari Intelligent Tracking Prevention has lead the industry in privacy
protections

Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP) was introduced in 2017 and has gained
several privacy features since. Initial reactions to the release were varying
as publishers worried about how this would affect cross-site tracking and
related data sources for ad sales.

ITP blocked cookies before, but left enough information for trackers to begin
tracking users based on what was being blocked. With the newest update, even
this type of tracking and fingerprinting is blocked. To date, only Tor has the
same level of protection, with Google Chrome expecting to have full third-party
cookie blocking by 2022.

According to the WebKit Blog, Websites have long used login fingerprinting to
track users based on login states in websites. Full third-party cookie blocking
prevents websites from seeing information about the "global browser state"
which allows them to see what websites you were signed into previously.

No telling yet how this will again affect ad firms, as even with its
limitations previously, it was reported that hundreds of millions in revenue
were being lost as a result of ITP. Apple has always taken a strong privacy
stancewith its devices and services, even to the point of world governments
pushing for them to weaken security.Comments

Re: Mac Mini Builtin Speaker

2020-03-24 Thread dan d.
It is quite good for the voice range and music is like with a small radio.
If you want it for fuller music sound the mini jack allows an external speaker
or the blutooth for a compatible speaker.

Re: Mac Mini Builtin Speaker

2020-03-24 Thread Brad Snyder
I have a 2012 Mac mini, and I find the internal speaker completely inadequate
for regular use with VoiceOver or anything else. I have looked at the 2018 Mac
mini, and it doesn’t seem any different.. The speaker’s opening in in the back
below the peripheral connectors and sounds like it is buried deep inside the
case. I have used the internal speaker in a pinch, but I find it difficult to
hear even with the volume turned up. I have a pair of external computer
speakers connected to the port on the back of the mini, that produce very good
sound, but I primarily use AirPods when using my mini.

I love my Mac mini and will most likely replace it with a decked-out current
model soon, but the internal speaker sucks.

I also have installed windows 10 onn it. In windows, the speaker really
stuttered. But I read that that was also a problem with windows.
So I got a usb external sound card for about 9 bucks or so. It works really
great either i n windows or mac. The speaker problem in windows has been
corrected at some point over the last year or so.
Back to the internal speaker.
It is in the back, the sound comes out just below the connections.
As far as I'm concerned, If for some reason I needed another mac, it would be
another mac mini.

Thanks, Dave. This is fascinating. I have to say that I haven't seen an audio
book on a physical CD in years. Brings back a lot of memories of long car
trips. :) I get my books from Bookshare, Bard, or Apple Books and Kindle, so
have never bothered using the Overdrive system, but I'm surprised that you can
manipulate the files that way. It does sound like a lot of steps, but if it
works for you, go for it.

I also found it easier to use the remote when the rotor is set to

On an internal network, this really shouldn't be an issue.  Are you

My son still uses an Apple TV 3 as well and finds that his media loads
rather slowly compared to my Apple TV 4 HD.  It may have to do with
processing speed within the devices.

Re: Catalina: How Would I Put Audio Books on my iPHone?

2020-03-24 Thread Dave Carlson
Donna,
Forgot the obvious. I also borrow audio books in physical audio CD format. I
rip them down to MP3 files and then process as previously mentioned.

Re: Catalina: How Would I Put Audio Books on my iPHone?

2020-03-24 Thread Dave Carlson
I use my local County Library system to find digital audio books. Once I borrow
them, I use Overdrive to do the actual downloading of the MP3 format files.
Then I process them with Audio Book Binder to create the M4B book files that I
sync to my iPhone. Seems like a lot of steps at first, but this way I ensure
that my books don’t expire before I get the chance to listen to them. Usually
the borrow limit time is 21 days via the Overdrive system. Check with your
local library for an online presence.

Re: Mac Mini Builtin Speaker

2020-03-24 Thread John Panarese
The speaker is great for VoiceOver and basic audio. It’s pretty clear and
loud. However, if you are going to listen to music or videos, you are probably
better off adding some kind of speaker. I got a display that has the built in
speakers which Apple recommends.

Mac Mini Builtin Speaker

2020-03-24 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi All:

Wondering whether anyone here has experience of the newer, 2018
generation Mac Mini. I'm particularly interested in the builtin speaker.
Is it adequate for Voice Over use? Is the volume and sound quality
adequate for TTS? Where is the speaker located on the unit physically?

Thanks in advance for any guidance. I'm contemplating placing an order
for one of these loaded to the gills.

Best,

Janina
