RE: Body Cams

2020-05-12 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Mind you,
I’m sure I could hit someone around the ankle and they would definitely
complain.

And as I use a folding cain,
I find that when sighted people trip over it from not watching where I am going
or they are stepping,
Not only does my cain break but they tend to fall over to which I say,
Well that probably hert, and how do I get home due to your clumsiness!?

What about those sun glasses that have a camera built in?
May be I'm missing something but a body camera would require turning your hole

What I've been working towards is something like the camera glasses so you can

Hi all,
I have a lot of MP3 audio books that I’m going to burn onto CDs for a work

home from school now that the little Devils are going back to school next week.
Oops, did I say that, I meant angels. I am going to by some more writable DVDs
for this task, but I do have one blank CD left but can’t remember what capacity
it is and I might be able to burn some books onto it before next week while I’m
waiting for the new disc’s to arrive.
So how can I check to see what the capacity of the blank Disc is please?
Thanks,

Re: How to place a Facetime audio call from an iPad?

2020-05-12 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Yes, I agree with that one sometimes. I like to play music shuffled on my
bluetooth speaker at work and if I have wet hands I have to use Siri to ask it
to play music. If I ask it to play my hard rock or heavy metal collections
shuffled it does fine, but if I ask it to play alternative shuffled it will
sometimes tell me that it is playing my entire music collection shuffled. You
could always put your favourite albums into a play list and then ask Siri to
play that play list.

Re: OT advice on trading in old units in apple store

2020-05-12 Thread Brad Snyder
I went through the Apple Store app, and followed the trade-in option when
ordering the new mini.
I’m glad to be getting something for it because I think the SATA HD is going
bad. It has been doing weird things for about a year, and I have been backing
it up constantly in anticipation of its failure.

2020-05-12 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
Can you recommend a way to download a video from youtube on my iMac so that I
can play it via Zoom without advertisements? I only need to do this rarely and
so ideally want a free or low cost way to do it.
I have tried some of the approaches from a Google search but find them most
confusing.
Many thanks for any tips … Paul Hopewell

Re: OT advice on trading in old units in apple store

2020-05-12 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

To add to Julie’s comments, the iPhone and iPad seem to retain their value
longer and thus are more likely to give you some extra towards a new Apple
device. I have used this system with both iPhone and iPad, and was pleased.
The Mac is a different story. As I mentioned, past about five or six years
old, you’re not going to really get anything for it. It may still work for
you, or someone else, but the reseller that is purchasing it does not believe
that the effort they may need to put into it is worth giving you any amount.
Usually, they’ll take it for free and recycle it if you wish, but other than
that, no cash value. It may be a little different across the big pond, but
here in North America, the shipping was free, at least for the iPhone and iPad.
I’m not sure for the Mac as I never bothered going any further than the
initial investigation.

Later…

2020-05-12 Thread Julie Rattray
Yes I think this is the issue if you look on the apple app it will give you
estimates for any apple products registered to your Apple ID and really if the
model is too old they don’t want it and even newish ones don’t generate that
much so it depends on what you want to trade.

I am not sure about what happens after you decide to do it as like Tim never
bothered as it wasn’t worth the postage etc

Hi,

Search for Apple Trade-In for Mac or Apple Trade-In for iPhone. Pages should
come up that you can use. It is a third party purchaser contracted by Apple to
provide this service. The form is mostly accessible, although a little
frustrating at times. For iPhone and iPad, you fill out the forms on-line,
then you can either use your own packing boxes or they’ll send you one. Your
estimated value is given to you prior to them receiving the device. They send
you the Apple Store Gift Card by eMail once they’ve received and verified your
device condition and specs. I’ve never actually done this with a Mac, as each
time I entered my specs, it was not worth any cash to me. Silly things last
too long, I guess.

Re: OT advice on trading in old units in apple store

2020-05-12 Thread 'Eileen Scrivani' via MacVisionaries
Hi Ian,

About 3 years back, when Apple stores were open to go into, I traded in 2
Iphones and an Ipad. The only thing I was able to do in the store was let them
wipe all the data and personal information off of my devices. The trade-ins had
to be done by mailing them in. And if I am recalling correctly, there was also
an on-line form that had to be completed before they sent the mailing cartons
and related paperwork that had to get packaged with each specific device.

Depending on the condition of the device(s) they will then mail you some dollar
amount back in the form of Apple gift cards.
In my case I wanted to upgrade my phone, but because the phones I was trading
in had to get wiped clean and shipped to them, I could not apply the gift cards
towards my new purchase since I did not want to be without my cell-phone
service during the interim. I wound up putting the gift cards towards Apple
TV’s. So they keep you coming back to them no matter what.

Hi all,

I am thinking of trading in my old iphone and Macbook with Apple in order to
buy new ones. One thing I can’t find out is how it works while we can’t go to
the stores. Could it all be done remotely? If I buy the new items, how long do
I get to return the trade in items and do they send all the necessary
packaging? How do they ensure the condition is right for the value they offer?

I have tried to find this out but frustrated in my wanderings around the store
terms and conditions.

With thanks
Ian

Voice over speed

2020-05-12 Thread Ian Harrison
Hi again,
I am now using Catalina. I used to be able to adjust the voice over speed on
the fly using the arrow keys and modifiers. I can’t seem to find that any more.
Any suggestions? I have looked at the rotor in Web settings but speech rate is
not in there. I’m sure it used to be.
Thanks
Ian

Re: Body Cams

2020-05-12 Thread Phil Halton
Knocking over old people, stepping on little children, just the other day I
went into my local hospital and the greeter was very concerned that my white
cane might injure the other people in the hospital. so, I tapped her on her
ankle a few times to show her that it didn’t hurt. i’d like to see a project
that collects stories from the blind of their dealings with the public. I know
I’ve got quite a few.

Re: To keep my iPhone 11, or go for the iPhone SE

2020-05-12 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
That’s interesting. How many phones do you have? Which ones do you use for what
activities?

So far I can’t shake the feeling that I’m giving up the “good” phone for the
inferior one, so I haven’t done it. But we get really good pricing through the
university where we work, so the SE with 256GB would only cost me $100. So
having both, at least for a while, would be an option worth thinking about.
Cheers,
Donna

OT advice on trading in old units in apple store

2020-05-12 Thread Ian Harrison

With thanks
Ian

Scanning solution

2020-05-12 Thread Ian Harrison
Hi listers,

I need to get a scanner for photos and A4 documents. Wireless would be nice but
not if expensive. The main project is a load of photos my wife has but doesn’t
have the time to scan them herself. Therefore it is my job to do the tedious
task and it would be nice to have simple software that could detect the edges
of the photos automatically and prefereably be voice over accessible. Any
suggestions?

Thanks
Ian
