Re: Apple mail

2020-11-11 Thread Brad Snyder
I don’t know of a way using a trackpad, but using a keyboard, you should be
able to interact with the Mailbox list using VO + Shift + Down Arrow, then
navigate through the list using VO + Up/Down Arrow keys, then you can use VO +
Spacebar to expand or collapse an item.

BTW, I thought you got a new Windows style keyboard to use with your Mac? What
happened with the new keyboard?

Hi Dolories.

Same author for sure, but my book is titled "Janet Ingber - Everything
You Need to Know to Use the Mac". It's a great book, but
nevertheless, I'll check out your book title also.

All the best with your learning.

Andy.

Very best wishes and kind regards

  Hello Andy,

I just purchased a book by Janet Ingber from the National Braille
Press. it is called Mac Basics for the Beginning User. I really like
it. I bought the braille copy so I can read it while trying things
on the computer. I’ve learned a lot from this book. It will be a
great reference tool for me. I don’’t know if we are talking about
the same book or not.

Hi all.

In the past I've purchased 2 great books. They may have been from

The first book concerned my Iphone and was titled:
Getting Started with the iPhoneGetting Started with the iPhone
An Introduction for Blind Users
By Anna Dresner and Dean Martineau.

This was a great book and helped me a lot, back when I was using
my Iphone 4s.

I've since upgraded to the Iphone 6s and was wondering if there
was a more recent title by these two authours which would be more
appropriate for the Iphone 6s and subsequent upgrades to the operating
system, since then.

My second book, which I'm studying at the moment is also a
fantastic book. It concerns My Imac and my Macbook pro and is titled:

Janet Ingber - Everything You Need to Know to Use the Mac

I'm loving this book so much that I hunger for more from this
particular author.

If anyone knows a link where I can purchase such titles, as txt
documents, I'd be delighted to know.

Thanks.

Very best wishes.

Re: Request for a tutorial about pages

2020-11-11 Thread 'Andy Logue' via MacVisionaries

Hi there.

I'll do so, but if you got my message and cannot read it, then you have a
problem at your end.

Are you poossibly seeing a message with black letters on a black background?

Try opening the message again. Tab to the main body of the messatge.

Do a control A to highlight everything that may or may not be in there,
followed by control c.

Launch your office program and start a new page and do Control V.

If there was anything in the main body, it's now on the new office/word
document you created.

Try reading the whole messge, even if there appears to be nothing on the
screen.

And write again tomorrow.

Hope you get this sorted.

Andy.

Re: Voice control of Amazon microwave via Alexa app on iPhone? Can this be done after setting up the oven and linking it to Alexa? Or do I have to have that Echo Dot also connected to Alexa? I won’t b

2020-11-11 Thread Phil Halton
Hi Janet, I got the microwave today and it is set up and working. I
pre-positioned a lock dot on the number two with the help of be my eyes in
preparation for the set up, and it worked great. You can use the Alexa app to
operate the microwave without an Echo Dot or other echo device. Although, it is
probably a lot easier with the echo device and the Alexa button. I have an Echo
Dot coming in a week or so, but I can use the microwave just fine using the
Alexa app until then.

I’ve been using an old clunker of a microwave with only two rotary knobs that
I’ve had for 17 years now. I figured it’s going to give out some day soon
perhaps, actually will probably last another 10 or 20 years, but the Amazon
basics is definitely a good upgrade and I like the voice control. thanks for
your article, it made the decision process a lot easier. Sent from my IPhone

Mark's printer is wonderful!

2020-11-11 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hello.

I have acquired the printer that Mark wrote about and now after getting a bit
of help with setting it up as there was lots of sellotape on it, it was easy to
set the printer up. I love this printer as I have used it twice. I don’t know
where the envelope feeder is and I am not sure what the top thing is that you
can pull forward.

Re: Should I upgrade to Catalina or Big Sur?

2020-11-11 Thread Brad Snyder
As I stated in my earlier post, Catalina has been out for a year, and is really
quite stable for the most part.
For anyone not already on Catalina, I would suggest upgrading to Catalina, and
then give it awhile before upgrading to Big Sur. This way you will give the
bug-hunters awhile to discover any issues, and Apple an opportunity to respond
with a fix before you jump in head first.
This is what I always do when a new version of the OS is released. I always
wait until the point 1 or point 2 version before taking the jump on my primary
Mac.

2020-11-11 Thread Dave Carlson
Adding to this thread…I just learned that TurboTax for 2020 is the last year
they will make the program useable on Mojave or older. Tax year 2021 version
requires Catalina or higher to work. So there’s the opposite concern over
changing or not changing.

2020-11-11 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Thank you, Shawn. This is exactly what I wanted to know. I remember that when
Catalina first came out, there were a lot of issues. That was my original
reason for delaying the upgrade. So, if Big Sur is stable, I think I’ll just
skip Catalina altogether.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Should I upgrade to Catalina or Big Sur?

2020-11-11 Thread 'Shawn Krasniuk' via MacVisionaries
Hello all. I'll address Pete's question first. Catalina and up drop support for
32 bit apps. Therefore if you want to upgrade to either Catalina or Big Sur,
I'd see if the apps you're using have a 64-bit version before taking the plunge.
As for the question of whether or not you should upgrade to Big Sur, Voiceover
doesn't have any show stopping bugs that I can see. There might be some minor
annoyances here and there, but all in all it's pretty stable. Other reasons why
you should upgrade that I can think of are you'll get the new security patches
that come with the OS, and if you're thinking of getting one of the new silicon
based Macs, they'll come with Big Sur out of the box. So you should really get
familiarized with the new features and changes before you get your new Mac.
