Re: Downloading Skype for My MacBook-Pro2017

2021-01-10 Thread 'Shawn Krasniuk' via MacVisionaries
Hi Fazil. Once you're in the finder, press Command+Option+L to get to the
downloads folder. Find Skype. It might be in a DMG folder which stands for disk
image so open it. Then you'll see the Skype app itself so do Command+C.
Finally, open the applications folder with Command+Shift+A and paste skype with
Command+V. HTH.

RE: Strange focus/reading problems in Safari on my iPhone

2021-01-10 Thread Marco Curralejo
Sorry I completely disagree with statements like "it causes problems when" etc.
It's clear to me that certain individuals are not using it for when it is
required.

It's best to use it only when you have too, not all the time.

It is also best to enable it in your rotor so you can easily get to it when you
need to turn it on or off.

Finally, try using it for instance in an app like Telegram. Without it, the app
is virtually useless, but with it, the app becomes far more accessible and you
can perform functions easily.

Statements like that it causes problems etc is, in my opinion, a very open one
and it's important to actually only use it when you need to and to have it
turned off for most other situations, not have it turned on all the time. This
feature was never designed for that.

Thanks,

Marco

I have to agree with Brett hear about the screen recognition feature. I have
found it to do nothing but cause problems with apps and Safari. It may have a
future but currently it really screws up the performance of apps and the
Internet. I would definitely try turning it off completely from within
voiceover/voice recognition settings. Image descriptions on the other hand are
somewhat useful and don’t cause performance problems at all.

I'm not familiar with launch bar. What is it and does it have clipboard

Awesome, Thanks. I wondered about that app. Do you know if it also scans the
files in DropBox. My Dropbox files show up in finder on my Mac. I believe I
also have lots of duplicates in my DropBox, but I have no idea how to easily
find them and delete duplicates.

Thanks,

I use Hazel to check for duplicate files, and it automatically deletes
duplicates for me. Hazel generally has a trial period, so you can test to
see if the program would work for you. This is completely voiceover
accessible. Www.noodlesoft.com is the web site where you can download the
program from.

Re: duplicate files

2021-01-10 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
My understanding (which may be wrong) is that, by default, copying a file on the APFS file system does not duplicate the data, and therefore does not use significantly more disk space. APFS is a “copy-on-write” file system, which means that the data are copied only when the duplicate file is modified. On 1/10/21, 15:24, "macvisionaries@googlegroups.com" wrote:Hi, On the Mac, is there a built in tool or way to check your files for duplicates or can anyone recommend an accessible Mac app to do this. Re: Strange focus/reading problems in Safari on my iphone

2021-01-10 Thread Brett Lewis
Hi,
Do you have the screen recognition turned on by any chance?
This is under settings accessibility voiceover and voiceover recognition.
Make sure it’s turned off for safari. I should note you can add it to the rotor
and then turn it on for each app as you move, I just don’t know if it’s part of
your rotor.
Hope that helps.

Strange focus/reading problems in Safari on my iphone

2021-01-10 Thread 'Catherine Turner' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I'm having a weird problem with safari on my iphone which basically
makes safari unusable. When I try to edit/type a web address, VO does
not read the keyboard, though I'm told by a sighted person that it's
there - VO just makes those sounds on it like it does when there's
nothing on the screen. Even if I double tap where the keys show,
nothing appears in the address bar. Additionally, the buttons at the
bottom of safari for "back", "forward", "bookmarks" e.t.c. are just
announced by VO as "left arrow" for back, "right arrow" for forward
and nothing at all except "tab" for the others - it calls them "tab"
instead of "button" like it does normally. Apparently the icons for
those buttons do look different to normal.

If I view a page via the gmail app - where it opens the link kind of
in safari within gmail - all is normal and fine. But if I press that
button which says "open in safari" it goes to the normal safari and
goes wrong/odd again.

I tried closing all the tabs, quitting and restarting safari,
restarting my phone and restarting VO which made no difference.

Does this ring any bells for anyone?

I checked to see if there any ios updates available and there aren't.
The only other thing I can think of that might have made a difference
was that yesterday, in between the time safari was working normally
and when it started behaving oddly, I put in a lightning to 3.5mm
adapter to use some earphones. When I put it in, the phone asked me
whether this accessory was to use headphones and I said yes. It also
said something about being able to change this option later somewhere.
I'm no longer using the adapter as I was borrowing it for a few hours.
But I'm wondering if somehow that made safari go wrong. But I can't
find where to change that option - have looked everywhere I can think
and searched in settings. Perhaps anything relating to that adapter
would only appear when I connect it again. I'm going to borrow it
again but has anyone any idea where I'd look for info about/to change
options relating to that adapter?

If not, I guess it's a phone reset...

Thanks,
Catherine
