Re: A question for mac fanfiction readers?

2021-02-01 Thread Eric Oyen
I already encountered that. I simply took a screen capture and sent them a
picture of it via twitter. After about a dozen or so of these things, I finally
got someone to respond. Once they understood the problem their settings were
causing, they started work on it.

Also, Cloudflare often pops up with something called HPCaptcha. I usually just
go to their login site, set the accessibility cookie and move on. And yes, I
strictly use a Mac here.

Two Questions about file in Mac?

2021-02-01 Thread Fazil
Hi, Group.

I am pretty new to Mac and I am a struggling learner. Please put up with my
goofy questions.

I have two questions:

1.

How Can I open a file in Mac?

2.

What options do I have in an Open-File DialogueBox?

Thanks again and sorry for my silly questions.

Hi Jonathan,

In my case, it was an unfortunate intersection of events. I have a Pro account
through the university where I teach, and they recently "upgraded" to
two-factor authentication. I had authenticated before logging into Zoom, but
for some reason, probably only known to the 2f Gods, I had to re-authenticate.
Once I did that, all was well.
Cheers,
Donna

A question for mac fanfiction readers?

2021-02-01 Thread Karen Lewellen

Hi everyone,
In December one of the more popular fanfiction sites suffered a ddos
attack.

www.fanfiction.net
Afterward, in an understandable panic, they started using cloudflare at
its most extreme settings, including security tests.
In rather a few cases though the captcha is not inclusive, does not even
show.

I understand Cloudflare is now working with Apple on security and privacy.
So, for those who have visited fanfiction.net since this change, were you
able to reach the site solving the security test using voiceover?

Its a lost cause in much of Linux even I am told.
My worry is that at some point cloudflare's presence may result in a
voiceover issue.

Thanks,
Karen

Thanks much, Jonathan.

Does Mac give you a save as option or save option only?

When I hit command-s after typing my note, it just saved.

That is the only file that I have saved so far in Mac and I did not get a
location option.

Thanks!

Hello,

I believe the default is to save in your iCloud/TextEdit folder, but once
changed it should stay in the new place. Also note that Apple Applications
default to saving without an explicit save, for example right now I have about
5 untitled txt files in my TextEdit folder. If you need more details on this
feature, I can probably pul up an article.

Re: Default location of TextEdit to save files?

2021-02-01 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,
I believe the default is to save in your iCloud/TextEdit folder, but once
changed it should stay in the new place. Also note that Apple Applications
default to saving without an explicit save, for example right now I have about
5 untitled txt files in my TextEdit folder. If you need more details on this
feature, I can probably pul up an article.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Make the Most of Braille on iOS Devices with the Braillists Foundation, Tomorrow at 7:30 PM UK Time

2021-02-01 Thread Matthew Horspool
Hello everyone,
Did you know you can use your iPhone from your pocket in conjunction with your
braille display? Do you know about braille displays and iOS devices, but don't
know where to get started? Have you heard about Braille Screen Input, but never
quite got the hang of how to use it?
If you've always wanted answers to these questions and more, the Braillists
Foundation can help! Tomorrow (2 February), join us on Zoom at 7:30 PM in the
UK for a session entitled "Using Braille on iOS". Led by Matthew Horspool, an
experienced iOS user and braille expert, we'll find out how to pair a braille
display with an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and how to get the most out of using
braille with these devices. We will also introduce you to Braille Screen Input.
The session is completely free of charge, will last an hour (ending at 8:30 PM
in the UK), and there will be plenty of time for questions. If you'd like to
join us, please register at:
https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwoceivqz8rGtbEERfYGlXFSR2eIqx-oc9o
If this time isn't convenient for you, fear not: the session will be recorded
and made available at: https://www.braillists.org/media
It will also be published via our Braillecast podcast - simply search for
"Braillecast" in your podcast client of choice, or ask your smart speaker to
"play Braillecast". We are also available on the Victor Reader range of DAISY
players and the internet radios from British Wireless for the Blind.
Registering for this session also entitles you to attend other sessions in our
Tuesday evening series. For more information, please visit:
https://www.braillists.org/events
If you have any questions about the session or are struggling to register,
please email h...@braillists.org
If you would prefer to attend by telephone, the Meeting ID is: 885 6175 4102
We very much look forward to welcoming you to a Braillists event soon - and if
you know someone else who's not on this list, but who might nonetheless
appreciate hearing about these sessions, please spread the word!
Best wishes,
Matthew Horspool

dark/light mode. One is creating an apple script, the other is creating a
workflow and saving it as an app.

The workflow as an app was super simple, but now I’m not sure if there is a way
to use a global keyboard shortcut to run it.

Is there a step I’m missing? Here’s the link where I learned the workflow.

If you go to system Preferences, Accessibility, interact with the Accessibility
table, VO down to Spoken Content, and VO right to the popup menu. You can then
VO space and change that particular voice.

Re: A work around for the vo shift m issue in the doc

2021-02-01 Thread Brad Snyder
This work-around was discussed by David Woodbridge, in one of his recent
podcast.

It does work, provided that:
1. after navigating to a dock item using VoiceOver, you route the mouse
pointer to the dock item using VO + CMD + F5, or Fn + VO + CMD + NumberRow 5,
if using a Mac with TouchBar, before performing the CTRL + 1-finger press on
the TrackPad.
2. Once the Shortcut menu is open, do not use VoiceOver navigation in the
menu. Just use the up/down arrow key, then when you get to the desired menu
item, simply press the Enter key to select the item and execute the action.

HTH.

Can’t say if this works or not, but someone mentioned to me that if you hold
down the control key, and push on your trackpad on a MacBook Air, or pro, that
the context menu will show. Again, can’t verify this, because I have a Mac
mini with no trackpad. Hth
