Re: Question about Apple tech support

2021-02-26 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Very hard to tell without experiencing it. Often though, when something like
this is happening, there is a secure window that will want your authorization.
Bring up an application list and see if there is a system event or similar
application listed. If so try each window under that.
Perhaps you can call the apple Accessibility help desk and get advice on remote
sharing even if they might not want to help you with the other issue.

Best wishes,

Hi.

I use Uber quite frequently, mostly through the BlindSquare app. Since I live
in a metropolitan area, there are frequently instances where lots of cars go
by, and the driver, not knowing that I can???t see him/her, just sits there,
waiting for a passenger to get in to the car.

Is there a way, or perhaps a template that, as soon as my ride has been
confirmed, to tell the driver that I can be recognized by my white cane?
Calling the driver as soon as the ride is confirmed doesn???t work, since some
of them speak neither German nor English.

I am wondering if others have this problem and if so, how they address the
issue. Would I be better off using the native Uber app instead of BlindSquare?

With best regards,

Mike

get it. I’ve had drivers tell me it wasn’t their job to look for me, and
refuse to do so. I have been told it was my responsibility to find them.
When this happens, I always report the incident to Uber, which often results in
a lot of back-and-forth communications via email or messaging, trying to
explain the situation to a representative who is many time-zones away in some
far away location.
It can be very frustrating.

Hi.

I use Uber quite frequently, mostly through the BlindSquare app. Since I live
in a metropolitan area, there are frequently instances where lots of cars go
by, and the driver, not knowing that I can’t see him/her, just sits there,
waiting for a passenger to get in to the car.

Is there a way, or perhaps a template that, as soon as my ride has been
confirmed, to tell the driver that I can be recognized by my white cane?
Calling the driver as soon as the ride is confirmed doesn’t work, since some of
them speak neither German nor English.

I am wondering if others have this problem and if so, how they address the
issue. Would I be better off using the native Uber app instead of BlindSquare?

With best regards,

Mike

2021-02-26 Thread Brad Snyder
On a Mac, and all Apple keyboards, the key that performs the “backspace”
function, is labeled as Delete.
It has been labeled this way going all the way back to the very first Apple I
computer.
If you don’t believe me, get a sighted person to look at it for you.

Re: Apprising Uber drivers of blindness in advance of pick-up

2021-02-26 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi, Mike:

I asked the CTO of Uber to add a feature to our Uber profiles that would
notify drivers after they accepted the ride request. I made this request
during a W3C Workshop that Uber hosted back in September 2019.
Obviously, it didn't get done, but I think it's still the best solution,
if we can just get it implemented.

What to do meanwhile is a bit of a guessing game. We certainly do need a
solution.

I've found sending text messages through the Uber app isn't usually
quick enough to be of help. And calling isn't always successful, either.

Then there's the language issue when one travels internationally. I
recall waving my white cane in the air at the airport in Lyon a few
years ago. The driver had called my cell phone, but my French is far too
weak, and his English wasn't good enough to understand: "I'm blind, and
you need to see me. Here, I'm waving my white cane in the air."

Actually waving the cane in the air did eventually work. It took the
better part of a minute for him to get it.

Best,

Janina

Question about Apple tech support

Hello,

I often called Apple. The problem is that as I don't use wifi, in order to
share the screen, they send me an invitation. Lately, the invitation doesn't
work because the computer says this invitation has not window.

What can I do? Is this an Apple problem, or is there anything I can do?

Apprising Uber drivers of blindness in advance of pick-up

2021-02-26 Thread Michael Busboom

Mike
