Keyboard Verbosity?

2021-09-20 Thread Fazil
Hi, group.

How can I control keyboard verbosity?

When I press VO keys, Voiceover says ctrl-option, how can I have Voiceover
not say that?

Thanks!

Hi,

To get at the attachment, interact with the content area, and navigate to the
bottom of it. The attachments will be there. Alternatively, use the File menu
and save the attachments to your Desktop or a specific folder so that they’re
easy to find later.

 Hi Dave,

Not Shawn, but I’ll give you my take on this.

First, I do like the Home button. I’ve had Face ID since the 10 came out,
so I’m used to the gestures, but I still would prefer a home button.

As for face ID being faster, that’s not my experience. With face ID, I
can’t unlock the phone until it’s in front of my face. With Touch ID, I
could unlock it while I was pulling it out of my purse, so by the time it
was situated in my hand, it was already unlocked.

Finally, there are two situations which I encounter on a daily basis in
which Face ID doesn’t work at all. Face ID is an ordeal when you’re
wearing a mask, requiring you to pull your mask down before unlocking the
phone, which harkens back to your point that Face ID is faster. It’s not
faster by the time you pull out your phone, pull down your mask, and then
unlock the phone. And I think wearing masks is going to be with us for a
while, so that’s a great argument for Touch ID. The other issue I have is
when I’m in bright sunlight. In that situation, the screen washes out,
and Face ID doesn’t work at all. I can’t begin to guess how many times
I’ve had to contort my body into some weird position just to avoid having
the lighting wash out my screen.
 Cheers,
 Donna.

Hope you enjoy it, but I would advise you not to upgrade to IOS15 yet because
some users have reported problems when using the wallet and the app switcher.

Hi.

I must say I am very happy with mine too.
When I got it, my original SE was still working well, although I was using IOS
11 on it. lol

It's very responsive and most times I have no issue with it.
I even enjoy listening to music on it while I work, without any external
speaker. The sound quality is quite good.

Hope this helps.

Take care,

Hello,

I’ve decided to upgrade from iphone 8 to iphone SE 2nd generation (2020).
My reasons are to do with the touch ID sensor. Would you be happy to
share your views/opinions on this iphone with me?

PDF Pen

2021-09-20 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi All,
I purchased PDFPen today. I tested it on a pdf file. By default, it grouped
pages. After page 2, it reported that content was empty after I interacted with
the content. I loaded the same file into Preview, and the text was seen and
read. I assume I was missing something. I looked for a setting/configuration
menu and did not locate it. I would think I could have PDFPen open pdf files
automatically? I will be looking at the Help System later today. In the
meantime, I would like to know how to configure this app and would be curious
as to why the text was not visible to PDFPen.
Best,

Les

Interesting. I did the process to use a mask, and it was not as easy as just
doing the original Face ID setup. But I got it to work, and it does work now
with a mask. Thanks for the tip.

Re: IPhone SE 2020 (2nd generation)

2021-09-20 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

That’s odd. The pass-code, when enabled is only required when you first put
the watch on. There should be no need to enter the pass-code any other time.
So, for example, after my shower in the morning, I put my watch back on, it
asks for the pass-code which I enter. From then on, the entire day long, I do
not need to enter the watch pass-code ever and I use the watch for workouts,
time checking and more throughout the day.

Given the situation we are in, I think Apple should have included Touch ID on
the new phones.

Hi Dave,

Not Shawn, but I’ll give you my take on this.

First, I do like the Home button. I’ve had Face ID since the 10 came out, so
I’m used to the gestures, but I still would prefer a home button.

As for face ID being faster, that’s not my experience. With face ID, I can’t
unlock the phone until it’s in front of my face. With Touch ID, I could unlock
it while I was pulling it out of my purse, so by the time it was situated in my
hand, it was already unlocked.

Finally, there are two situations which I encounter on a daily basis in which
Face ID doesn’t work at all. Face ID is an ordeal when you’re wearing a mask,
requiring you to pull your mask down before unlocking the phone, which harkens
back to your point that Face ID is faster. It’s not faster by the time you
pull out your phone, pull down your mask, and then unlock the phone. And I
think wearing masks is going to be with us for a while, so that’s a great
argument for Touch ID. The other issue I have is when I’m in bright sunlight.
In that situation, the screen washes out, and Face ID doesn’t work at all. I
can’t begin to guess how many times I’ve had to contort my body into some weird
position just to avoid having the lighting wash out my screen.

Cheers,

Donna.

What is it about Face ID that you don’t like? Did you have it on your previous

reason for your iPhone preference?

The sound quality on the SE is good, but it doesn't match the Mac or iPad.
The only limitation for the SE2020 is that it doesn't support Lidar, and I do
not think it has 5G.
However, those features are not a priority for me.
I just hope that it will continue to receive IOS updates now that the iPhone

Hi,

It’s probably a real estate issue. The iPads are both thicker and bigger than
an iPhone, thus there are more components crammed into a smaller footprint.
Supposedly by the iPhone 15, in 2023, there will be under glass finger-print
recognition.

Hey Tim,

I did try setting up my watch to unlock my phone, but got tired of having to
enter the pass code every time I wanted to check the time, so turned the
feature off. :)
Cheers,

 Cheers,
 Donna.

I don’t know, but that’s still not as fast as just having Touch ID.

The other thing I don’t understand about this issue is that all the new iPads
come with Touch ID built into the top button. If they can do that on the
iPads, why not also build it into the phones?

Hi,

FaceID recognition is very fast in the newer iPhone models. As long as your
face is around 20 to 80 cm (8 to 36 inches) away from your face, the
recognition speed is amazingly fast and accurate. If you have an Apple Watch,
then wearing a mask is not an issue. If your watch is on your wrist, is
connected to your iPhone, and has a pass-code, then the iPhone will just unlock
as it recognizes that you have the watch and a partial face recognition. The
iPhone will also instantly ask for your pass-code if it recognizes that you’re
wearing a mask and do not have an Apple Watch.

All this being said, yes, a properly working finger-print sensor would likely
be quicker if you do not have the Apple Watch scenario, but just thought I’d
throw some info into the mix.

Re: Viewing attachments and names of attachments in the inbox

2021-09-20 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

If you’re simply wondering if a specific message has an attachment or not, then
that is announced by default when you are arrowing through the messages list.
For example, if there was an attachment embedded in this message, it would
announce “Tim Kilburn, Subject Line, Date of Message, Attachment, some
content”. After opening a message, you can interact with the Message Header
area, and the last item in this header will be announced as “Attachment” if one
is attached.

HTH.

2021-09-20 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
I don’t know, but that’s still not as fast as just having Touch ID.

The other thing I don’t understand about this issue is that all the new iPads
come with Touch ID built into the top button. If they can do that on the
iPads, why not also build it into the phones?
Cheers,
Donna

Cheers,

Donna.

Hi,

Yes, I’ve found PDFPen to be totally accessible. The developer is also very
receptive to feedback. I believe that you can go to the PDFPen web-site and
get a demo prior to forking out the actual purchase price.

I need to access my documents folder within finder, which I used to know how to
do, but sense I rarely keep anything there anymore, I unfortunately can’t
remember the command to access “all my files” as opposed to the users portion
of finder. Can someone please point me in the right direction of how to do
this?

back to your point that Face ID is faster. It’s not faster by the time you
pull out your phone, pull down your mask, and then unlock the phone. And I

In that situation, the screen washes out, and Face ID doesn’t work at all. I

RE: IPhone SE 2020 (2nd generation)

2021-09-20 Thread skipper8218
Makes sense, but I am buying unlocked phones so I do not have the same type of
incentives that you do.

I know some people do AT for a living so having the latest phone can be an
essential part of the business.

The other thing for me is that upgrading is kind of the gift that keeps on
giving. I really do get a crazy good price on a new phone from my employer.
Part of that is based on trading in my old phone. So, this year, for example,
I’ll get much more for trading in a 12 than I would for trading in an 11 or an
SE, which in turn, reduces the price on the new phone. So staying with the
current model pays off.

Cheers,

I’d consider the Mini iPhones if it had touch ID.

That is more important to me than power since I have a M1 mac and a Windows PC
capable of scanning documents.

I think this is very much a question of personal preference. I understand what
you’re saying, but I like my devices to run fast. Patience is not one of my
greatest virtues. So, is there any app that wouldn’t run on the SE? Probably
not. Will those apps run faster on a 13 mini? Undoubtedly. And personally,
that’s something I care about. Not saying everyone has to care about that, but
I do. Also, as Apple does more with screen recognition, AI, and spatial audio,
the more powerful phones will be able to make better use of those features.

Apple is like any other company in that they can’t produce something new every
year that no one has seen before.

Sometimes, it is just upgrades.

There is nothing wrong with that, but it is a good idea to pause and ask
yourself if this is really something worth buying based on your own needs.

The older iPad 5th generation was something new that I had not used before, and
I wanted something with better sound quality.

 Hello,

I’ve decided to upgrade from iphone 8 to iphone SE 2nd generation (2020).
My reasons are to do with the touch ID sensor. Would you be happy to
share your views/opinions on this iphone with me?

I love the iPhone SE 2020.
It is the same size as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.
It is fast though there have been complaints about the battery.
It is the best iPhone I've owned.

Hello,

I’ve decided to upgrade from iphone 8 to iphone SE 2nd generation (2020).
My reasons are to do with the touch ID sensor. Would you be happy to
share your views/opinions on this iphone with me?

Andrew

2021-09-20 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
I have to say that my biggest disappointment in Apple’s presentation last week
was that the new phones won’t have touch ID. I have the 12 mini, and I’ll
probably upgrade to the 13 mini, but only because I get a good upgrade price
through my employer. Were it not for that, I’d probably not upgrade. I just
can’t justify switching to the SE, because it’s got so much less power than the
other phones.
Cheers,
Donna

Viewing attachments and names of attachments in the inbox

2021-09-20 Thread Michael Busboom
Hi.

I frequently receive emails with attachments, but I have not been able to
determine whether an email has an attachment or not. Is there a way to make the
Apple Mail program let one know that the message currently in focus has an
attachment?

A blind friend told me that if an email has an attachment, this will be placed
at the end of the message itself. However, I did not find this to be the case
for me.

How can I get the Mail program to notify me that a message comes with an
attachment? The only thing I can do at present is to type command Y for the
attachment preview.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Yeah I like my iPhone SE 2020 as well. I'm gonna stick with this phone as long
as I can because I really don't like Face ID.
