Re: sim card

2021-09-27 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,
Not sure if you mentioned your original carrier, but I know for certain that
T-Mobile has an app in the app store that enables the Virtual SIM to use the
T-Mobile network as a demo. I read about this a few weeks back in tidbits.
com's weekly newsletter.

heading level 1 T-Mobile’s Network Test Drive Puts 5G on Your iPhone’s eSIM
https://tidbits.com/2021/07/05/t-mobiles-network-test-drive-puts-5g-on-your-iphones-esim/

Well, I guess it was from early July based on that URL.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: sim card

2021-09-27 Thread Cameron Strife
Okay, this really grinds my gears. I've seen this come up many
different places. Why do so many blind people have the idea that this
is something that a sighted person needs to help them with?

I'm totally blind and have swapped sim cards on many iPhones over the
years. It's not complicated or difficult, you just need to have a
gentle touch.

Before putting in a new sim card or taking out your current sim card
if you're selling the phone for example, make sure the phone is
powered down first.

On the right side or left side of the phone, you'll feel a tiny hole
and next to that hole, you may be able to feel the edges of the sim
card tray. Find a paperclip and bend out the end with the point on it.
You'll use the point to eject the sim card tray.

You don't want to risk scratching the side of your iPhone when
ejecting the sim card tray so what I tend to do after finding the hole
is put my thumb on one side and my pointer finger on the other. I use
them to guide the end of the paperclip in. When you push in the
paperclip, the sim card tray should pop out. Simply grab it and pull
it straight out. Assuming you are holding the phone facing you, like
if you were on a facetime call for example, the sim card will be
sitting in the top of the tray. Be very careful to not let it fal out!
this happened to me once and it took an hour to find it. What I do now
is use a tray, box, or a plastic container under the phone. This way
if the sim card does fall out, it's in a small area that it can't
bounce out of.

Okay, grab your new sim card... The card will easily drop into the
tray if the orientation is correct. same goes for tray insertion.
Don't force it! You'll feel a little notch in the sim card. Line it up
to where the old one had it's notch. If you didn't notice when you
took it out, its not a big deal. the card will only work one way so
trial and error will get you there if nothing else.

Once the sim card tray is pushed all the way in, simply power on your
phone and you should see the cell carrier and network type in the
status bar at the top of your iPhone's screen.

Re: wi-fi calling

2021-09-27 Thread Sarah Massengale
Hi, Lorie,

Unfortunately, Wifi calling is something that you have to have a cell plan to
do. I know, on Verizon, it’s just a matter of turning on the Wifi calling in
the cellular settings and typing in your emergency address. I live in the
middle of nowhere, so I have to use it all the time. Hope this helps.

Best,
Sarah

Question About Siri

2021-09-27 Thread Tali Sarnetzky
Hi everyone.

A friend in Australia has been trying for a few days now to ask Siri
to check for Missed calls, only to e told this is unavailable at the
moment and to try later.
He says it was working before and is not sure why it is not working
now. He has not updated to IOS 15.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Tali

Telegram again

2021-09-27 Thread 'NickiKeck' via MacVisionaries
HI all,

Am looking for an accessible app to use Telegram for the Mac. I had posted
about this a few days ago to some lists and got the ideas to try Bright Guide,
which I found out is not for Mac but for iPad, or the Telegram app. Maybe I’m
missing something, but I can’t get anywhere with the telegram app from the app
store. Anyone have another solution for accessing Telegram from the Mac?
Thanks.

Audible App keeps stopping in IOS 15

2021-09-27 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am running IOS 15.0 on my iPhone SE 2020. I use headphones to listen to
Audible books. For some reason the Audible App keeps stopping while reading an
Audible book. Pressing the home button restarts the reading. If I delay
pressing the home button I find that I have missed some text. Sometimes the
reading will stop after a few seconds and sometimes it will stop after several
minutes. sometimes I can restart the reading and it continues without stopping.
I note that I do most of my reading around bedtime, and so wonder if the sleep
settings are relevant. I have looked at these and think that sleep is set off.
This problem does not happen with other sources of audio such as Dolphin Easy
Reader or Borrow Box.
do others experience this problem and if so have have you fixed it? The problem
only started happpening after upgrading to IOS 15.
Many thanks for your help …. Paul Hopewell

Re: No page up or down on MacBook Air...

2021-09-27 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

You can confirm that the key combinations I’ve mentioned are the Page Up/Down
and Home/End by enabling the VoiceOver Keyboard Practice. Press VO-k to engage
Keyboard Practice, then press the arrow keys. You will hear left, right up and
down. Hold down the FN key, the key in the lower left of the keyboard, and
listen to what is announced by VO. You will hear Page Up, Page Down, Home and
End along with the action it performs. Note that it is moving the VoiceOver
cursor, not the keyboard cursor.

And if you use an M1 Mac try Fire Fox. Not sure whether Fire Fox works on
Intell too but it works defnitly on M1 Macs.
All the best

Hi,

It seems to be an issue with the VoiceOver buffer filling up. The Quickest way
I’ve found to work around it is to turn VOiceOver off, wait a few seconds then
turn it back on. Things run smoothly after that for a while.

Later…
