Re: Zoom Meeting

2022-06-15 Thread Julie Rattray
It shouldn’t matter if you click on the link in the invite it should let you in
anyway

I have been using zoom lots for work so if you have any issues just yell - once
you have it set the way you want it tends to work well

If I remember you have a braille display and one of the things I find really
useful with a braille display is that you can mute speech but still navigate
around without the speech getting in the way of what you are listening to in
the meeting etc

I think brad’s idea of a test meeting with yourself is a good one but if you
want to do a test with a person do yell

Re: a security / privacy settings question.

2022-06-15 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

There are trusted developers that are built in to the system, as well as you
being able to tell the MacOS if you want to “Trust” a specific web-site for
downloads. Leaving the setting to App Store and Trusted Developers is your
best option. Regarding the locking of the screen after sleep or screen saver,
yes, indeed this can be configured. I’ll preface this by saying that when you
disable this feature, you are leaving your Mac open to security breaches. That
being said, if you are comfortable with that risk, or have other physical
reasons for preferring your Mac not to behave this way, then the setting is in
the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences under the General tab.

Hi,

The default Mail account setting is found in Settings, Mail then it’s the last
item on that screen. When sending an eMail and if you’d rather it be sent from
a different account than the default, swipe right until you hear the account
announced. It is between the To and cc fields. Double-tap on that, then swipe
right again until you hear the account announced with the word “Button” at the
end. Double-tap on that and you should be presented with the choices of
accounts you can send the message from. Double-tap on the one you wish to use.
 That should do it.

HTH.

Hi,

I primarily have all my contacts within my iCloud account, so mostly use the
contacts from there. It kind of depends on where you have contacts within your

bother syncing with some other accounts that are used for more specific

Re: a security / privacy settings question.

2022-06-15 Thread Karen Lewellen

Tim,
Thanks as always.
When I spoke to apple accessibility I asked a question.
since voiceover is not providing input, if one is new to the mac, or used
to a larger keyboard, mistakes are quite likely.
however, what happens if someone cannot type at all? the system does not
let you speak your password either, which speaking personally seems like
rather a barrier for those experiencing motor challenges.
While I respect the risk idea, I am more bothered by the noninclusive
nature of the door if that resonates.
If I could say set the requirement for once every 90 days, giving me more
time to either manage this keyboard or add an external one it would be
one thing.
As it is now, the problem prevents me from moving forward, and I cannot
resonate with that situation.

Also, thoughts on the safety of allowing downloads only from the apple store,

Hi,

Whether it’s a VoiceOver user or a sighted user, they will not be able to see
what is being entered. Yes, on some web-sites, there is a “Show Password”
option, but this is not the case for the Login screen. You do bring up some
good points, although I’m not sure I know a workaround for them. Even with
newer versions of the computer, and newer versions of the MacOS there are
things like the fingerprint sensor. The limitation here is still that the full
entry of the password is required after restart or logout for security reasons.
I will need to check with someone at Apple if there’s some other way that I’m
not aware of that would allow for password entry for someone with dexterity
challenges.

hi Tim,
Please share what you learn. Just got off the phone with main apple

As shared I have no issues with the data not being presented, with

but as I just shared with my apple rep, you expect someone like the late

If there is not an existing work-around for that population, one should be

to provide password at log in, or something of that sort.

Hi,

This only works for unlocking your Mac. The finger-print and Apple Watch
features do not apply for logging in. This would help, of course, for the
unlock process after closing the lid, or after locking due to sleep or screen
saver, but not for the actual login process.

Well, now that the log in request is gone, I can hopefully get started
learning my mac better.

save that the tutorial I am anticipating seems to be missing?
to be clear, this goes back several editions, in the voiceover utility
menu there was a tutorial with a voice guiding one through learning basic
keystrokes and navigation. This voice differed from say what I assume is
Alex, and helps you learn how things work.
However when I choose what has to be function-vo-8 to reach the utility I
cannot find the tutorial.
Granted, I am still getting used tot his voice, and may not simply
understand it well yet.
Still, what am I missing? lastly, is there a command which reviews last
information provided by voiceover? I suppose good old fashioned screen
review may be missing smiles.

Which in one case requires one have more than one product.
By way of example, I have yet to find an iOS voice that does not trigger
the dizziness aspect of my auditory processing condition.
It is one reason why I wanted an older mac, and why I am, after years of
being on this list, only now in a position to really use apple products at
all.
My point is that inclusion also means choices, and limiting choices
because of how a person's body works, is not inclusion..at all.

Hi all,

For some mysterious reason, all four of our Sonos1s died Sunday morning. The

calling Sonos tech support to resurrect them, all to no avail. Needless to
say, we’re not giving another dime to Sonos as long as we live, but in the

going to replace the dead speakers with. I’ve re-added them in the Sonos app,
and am now trying to add them to HomeKit. The only option I’m seeing is to

Hi,

In the Home app, double-tap on Add, then on the next screen, double-tap on the
Add Accessory button. The Scan Code and more is there ready for you to follow
the prompts.

Sonos speaker showing up in Home app, but when I try to play to that speaker using a shortcut, it doesn't work

2022-06-15 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

So as it happens, one of the Sonos speakers had already been added to home kit.
So, I unplugged the speaker that is not added yet, and am trying to just play
to the one speaker. The speaker works, I’ve tested it in the Sonos app. I can
also see the speaker in HomeKit, but when I tell Siri to play to it, she says,
Sorry, I can’t find that speaker. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on?
TIA,
Donna

Re: How to access the Do Not have a code or cannot scan option in HomeKit?

2022-06-15 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I don’t think that you need to tap anything. There’s an item on that screen
announced as “Camera View”. I believe that as soon as you get to this screen,
you can use your camera, or hold the iPHone close to the device if it supports
that. If the scan is successful, it should move on to the next screen for you.

that seems to be a somewhat uncooperative task.

Converting from Image to Text

2022-06-15 Thread Bill Gallik
Hi All,

Several months ago I sent a message to the list wondering how I could use my
scanner to read print documents. It was suggested that I use the Image Capture
app and I have tried that. I’m able to scan in a page, but can’t seem to get
the image converted into a text (or Word) format. During the scanning step I
have tried PDF, JPG and TIF but can’t seem to get the final step completed.

Can anybody offer a suggestion to resolve this?

TIA

Re: Converting from Image to Text

2022-06-15 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

You need an app like ABBYY Fine Reader or some other OCR capable app to convert
a scanned document to text. Using Image Capture will scan and print it nicely,
but the translation into text requires more.

 Hi all,

For some mysterious reason, all four of our Sonos1s died Sunday morning.
The whole thing makes absolutely no sense, and we’ve tried everything,
including calling Sonos tech support to resurrect them, all to no avail.
Needless to say, we’re not giving another dime to Sonos as long as we
live, but in the meantime, we’ve dug up our old Play1s to use until we
figure out what we’re going to replace the dead speakers with. I’ve
re-added them in the Sonos app, and am now trying to add them to HomeKit.
The only option I’m seeing is to scan the QR code. How do I access the
option to have HomeKit scan for products?
 TIA,
 Donna

to be clear, this goes back several editions, in the voiceover utility menu
there was a tutorial with a voice guiding one through learning basic keystrokes
and navigation. This voice differed from say what I assume is Alex, and helps

However when I choose what has to be function-vo-8 to reach the utility I
cannot find the tutorial.
Granted, I am still getting used tot his voice, and may not simply understand

Still, what am I missing? lastly, is there a command which reviews last
information provided by voiceover? I suppose good old fashioned screen review
may be missing smiles.
Thanks,

Also, the user’s guide can be reached with Ctrl-Option-Question mark.
Apple announced that there would be new voice options in Mac OS Ventura. I
don’t know whether any of those might be more intelligible for your purposes.

Re: onboard tutorial revisited.

2022-06-15 Thread Karen Lewellen
Honestly the idea of having to hold down the vo keys, a shift key and the
/ to reach a question mark?
Practice, and finding the ability to make voice changes is helping.
besides this is a mid 2012 machine, the one just past the one I desired,
but at least not dangerous to use voice wise.
Here is hoping I can blend voice control of some vo commands as I am told
is possible for some things.

drag and drop

2022-06-15 Thread Lorie McCloud
I'm trying to fill out this survey that asks me to drag and drop items to be in
a certain order. I've tried using vo-command-shift space for mouse down and
mouse up but it's not moving the items I'm attempting to use it on. one of my
problems is that I don't know where to put them, if there's a certain space
designated for that or if I'm supposed to just rearrange them where they are.
advice please.

Thanks.
