Re: Video editing

2023-07-16 Thread Dave Carlson
Hello again Tom,
I’m really interested in what hardware and software you are using with the Mac
to convert VHS tapes to digital files. I need to archive some important tapes
before we sell off our VCR.

Thanks!

copying, nothing else. I tried iMovie, but that is a little intense. Can
anyone recommend a simple video editing software to do this? Thanks.

Hi;
Yes app is accessible. A sighted person will have to draw an area of focus

Subject: Accessibility of Ring Video Doorbell V2

Hello,
My family have 2 iPhones running IOS 16.4.1 and we are considering installing a
Ring Video Doorbell version 2. I am blind and so use VoiceOver on one of the
iPhones. Is the Ring App accessible to the extent that I can adjust the
settings, get alarms when the doorbell rings, and be able to talk to the person
ringing the doorbell? Can I setup the doorbell to talk to both of our iPhones?I
anticipate that the doorbell would connectto Many thanks for any help … Paul

Hi,
I have read about this on this list in the past. However when I got my new
silicon iMac I just used a previous Time Machine backup and all went perfectly.
Max.

Re: Accessibility of Ring Video Doorbell V2

2023-07-16 Thread Yolanda Thompson
So, ring keeps causing MAC users frustration because they say they
will not support MAC, then I think the last thing is the ring info can
be accessed via Safari.
However, on the iPhones it works well. Had to address some
inaccessibility in setup and so forth; however, last I heard they had
fixed this.

Accessibility of Ring Video Doorbell V2

2023-07-16 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
My family have 2 iPhones running IOS 16.4.1 and we are considering installing a
Ring Video Doorbell version 2. I am blind and so use VoiceOver on one of the
iPhones. Is the Ring App accessible to the extent that I can adjust the
settings, get alarms when the doorbell rings, and be able to talk to the person
ringing the doorbell? Can I setup the doorbell to talk to both of our iPhones?I
anticipate that the doorbell would connectto
Many thanks for any help … Paul Hopewell

Re: Preparing for a new Mac?

2023-07-16 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Lenron,

Are you sure that reinstalling from a Time Machine backup when going from
silicon to silicon works? I’d love to go back to using Time Machine to do
this. It’s definitely the easiest way to migrate your content. I just don’t
ever want to go through all that headache again. :)
Cheers,
Donna

going from a silicon to another works just fine. There is no way I am
going to start fresh every single time. My computer is setup as a
production system, and having to start from square one if nothing is
broken is not something I am trying to do.

Re: Preparing for a new Mac?

2023-07-16 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
By way of contrast, I’ve always set up every new Mac from a Time-machine
backup. So that’s what I did when I got my Apple Silicon Mac. It was a total
nightmare! I spent the better part of a week trying to get the new Mac up and
running. Most of that time I was in recovery mode, because that was the only
thing I could access. With lots of support from this list, I tried everything,
including reinstalling the OS. Nothing worked and eventually I gave up and
returned it for a new Mac. Even though next time I’ll be going from one
silicon Mac to another, I don’t think I’ll ever restore from a Time Machine
backup again.
Cheers,
Donna

Perhaps so.
I know of at least a half dozen who have attempted setting up a new Apple
silicon Mac from a Time Machine backup of their Intel Mac, and everyone of them
ended up with an unusable Mac that had to be returned to Apple.
I have never been in favor of setting up a new Mac from a Time Machine backup,
even in the Intel days.
I have always viewed setting up a new Mac as an opportunity for a fresh start,
that leaves behind all the clutter and miscellaneous garbage that had
accumulated over time on my old Mac.
It is a bit more time consuming to start fresh, but I have always felt the
effort was worthwhile.

I have to second this!!! I am one of those who rendered an M1 Mac unusable,
and had to return it.
Cheers,

Re: Preparing for a new Mac?

2023-07-16 Thread Brad Snyder
Whatever you do, do not attempt to setup your new Mac with Apple silicon, from
a Time Machine backup from an Intel Mac.
The 2 Macs have different internal hardware, and different versions of the
macOS that are not compatible with one another.
Everyone I know who has attempted setting up a new Apple silicon Mac from a
Time Machine backup from an Intel Mac, has rendered their new Apple silicon Mac
unusable, and has had to return it to Apple.

Re: Video editing

2023-07-16 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

Although it is primarily used for audio editing, the Reaper program can be used
for editing videos. I’ve had success trimming and making basic edits to screen
recordings I’ve produced using the program to edit.

See www.reaperaccessibility.com for more
details. It might seem like this is using a really complex tool but you can
focus on just the basics of setting markers, cutting and such.

Re: Video editing

2023-07-16 Thread Dave Carlson
Tom,
Can’t help with the editing, but can you tell me what hardware and software you
used on your Mac to transfer those VHS tapes to digital format? I also have
some that I need to preserve before the VCR finally dies.

2023-07-16 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Is it possible to read books with a refreshable Braille display in Dolphin Easy
Reader app on the mac? I can’t find a way of doing so.
