I have the metal Rayban glasses and they are of sort of every day usefulness
including for the blind but not as specific in the kind of information as the
Celeste classes. There is a good Facebook group called Blind uses of meta
Rayban glasses which you might want to join even in advance of deciding whether
to buy the glasses

glasses. They’re also sold at Amazon. There’s a few different styles I believe
three styles there are $300 with some of the colors and newer styles. go up in
price to about 379 I believe but the beta site will tell you all the prices.

Re: Braille Display Commands on Mac

Hi Matthew,

Check in the VoiceOver Utility (VO+F8). Select Braille in the categories table,
then select the tab for Displays. Use the Tab key to move through the settings
and you will find commands there. I’m not sure how to use or set commands for a
display.

Hi everyone. I am working with a student who is using a Brailliant 32. I have
used this display in the past, but it was a few years ago. None of the commands
for VoiceOver work for the display and I think they need to go into the
commands table to fix it. As I don't have a display anymore, where is this
option and are they able to add/modify commands for quitting/opening
applications?
Thanks.

Just in case it was one of those things you got into by accident, it happens
when you flick your way down on the page numbers that are given just above your

you put yourself into the App library.

Re: Recovering data from iPads

2020-12-29 Thread 'Eileen Scrivani' via MacVisionaries
Michael,

I am not sure what your solution might be, but you have one thing on your side
which is you at least know the Apple Id. If you try doing a reset on either the
password or passcode the device might send a text message to confirm the
change. The question is where will it send that code – if its one of the locked
devices then you’re still in the same problem. Have you tried calling Apple
accessibility to see what they might suggest.

Apple was helpful to me when my husband passed, but then I knew the codes to
his Apple stuff.

Subject: Recovering data from iPads

Hello everyone,

Recently a very close friend of mine died, and I inherited two iPads that he
and his wife owned. One of the iPads is three years old, and the other is five
or six years old. On one of the iPads, there are apparently a lot of pictures
that family members would like to have, provided I can gain access to them and
send them.

Here are my problems and questions:

Although I have the Apple user IDs for the iPads, I do not have the passwords
or unlock codes. Since I didn’t know that I would one day be getting the
iPads, I never asked for them, prior to my friend’s death Is there any way for
me to recover their pictures?

If there is no way to gain access to the content of these iPads, how do I do a
complete reset and start setting them up for my own personal use, using my
current Apple ID? I have never done a complete restore to an iPad, but I do
back up my iPhone to the Cloud regularly. If someone can refer me to a podcast
that addresses these issues, that’d be great.

With gratitude for any thoughts and best wishes for 2021,

Mike

Re: A Problem Answering Incoming Face Time Calls?

2020-12-28 Thread 'Eileen Scrivani' via MacVisionaries
Hi Herbie,

As John describes in that message below, prior to the Big Sur update that is
exactly how it worked for me – just and easy swipe or VO-left/right and press
the accept button. Now, with the update to Big Sur there is no simple way to
just navigate to the accept button when the call comes in.

Re: OT advice on trading in old units in apple store

2020-05-12 Thread 'Eileen Scrivani' via MacVisionaries
Hi Ian,

About 3 years back, when Apple stores were open to go into, I traded in 2
Iphones and an Ipad. The only thing I was able to do in the store was let them
wipe all the data and personal information off of my devices. The trade-ins had
to be done by mailing them in. And if I am recalling correctly, there was also
an on-line form that had to be completed before they sent the mailing cartons
and related paperwork that had to get packaged with each specific device.

Depending on the condition of the device(s) they will then mail you some dollar
amount back in the form of Apple gift cards.
In my case I wanted to upgrade my phone, but because the phones I was trading
in had to get wiped clean and shipped to them, I could not apply the gift cards
towards my new purchase since I did not want to be without my cell-phone
service during the interim. I wound up putting the gift cards towards Apple
TV’s. So they keep you coming back to them no matter what.

Subject: OT advice on trading in old units in apple store

Hi all,

I am thinking of trading in my old iphone and Macbook with Apple in order to
buy new ones. One thing I can’t find out is how it works while we can’t go to
the stores. Could it all be done remotely? If I buy the new items, how long do
I get to return the trade in items and do they send all the necessary
packaging? How do they ensure the condition is right for the value they offer?

I have tried to find this out but frustrated in my wanderings around the store
terms and conditions.

With thanks
Ian

Re: How Do I Pair AirPods with My MacBook?

2019-11-24 Thread 'Eileen scrivani' via MacVisionaries
David,

Thanks, but I did try turning bluetooth on in preferences & I may or may not
have tried pressing the pairing button on the pod’s case. I’ll try it another
time. It just seemed so difficult in comparison to pairing with my IPhone X. In
the case of the phone, the pairing happened automatically as soon as I
unlocked my phone.

I was wondering if issues with pairing them to the Mac Book had any thing to do
with interference from the phone being on my person (but locked) while trying
to pair the pods to the Mac Book.

Thanks.

I’m using an IPhone 10. Ever since the upgrade to V. 13.x after I hang up from
a phone call the phone goes silent on me. The only way to get it working again
is to turn VoiceOver off then on again. Its quite annoying and I hope they get
a fix for it soon.

  Hi,

Upon more testing, I did lose VO speech another time yesterday. I was
using my Headphones while making a call, and used the button on the headphones
to end the call. This caused me to lose VO speech and sounds totally. Haptics
were still working, but no sound at all. I did make another call with my
headphones on, but did a two-finger double-tap to end the call this time. I
did not lose sound in this case. This leads me to believe, at least so far,
that it has something to do with how VO is routing sound. I've not experienced
the problem at all when I just use my iPhone normally without headphones, but
twice now with headphones on. It seems t, somehow the iPhone gets confused
with where the sound is to be routed, and thus shuts the entire sound off. I
might need to do some more testing to confirm all these findings, but might be
getting somewhere.

  Just an FYI.

these sorts of problems are quite difficult to nail down due to the
inconsistency of its presentation. As I've mentioned, I've only experienced
this problem once with the phone app, and total loss of speech nowhere else.
Sometimes, speech is lost for a second or so after I press the side button to
unlock my iPhone, but a swipe left/right brings it back, so, I don't believe
that requires a restart. There are a lot of variables that might be causing
the issues for the people that are experiencing this, such as background apps
that are running, certain settings that one user has vs another, version of the
iPhone etc. Numerous hard resets also can corrupt a system, so, in some cases,
a restore will mostly fix things.

Some questions that might help are:

  • Does it lose speech at the Lock screen or elsewhere?
  • Does it lose speech when you're in a specific app?
  • Is your iPhone in a specific app when you unlock it, or is it on the
Home screen?
  • do you have Background App Refresh enabled?
  • do you have an external device connected such as a Braille device or
external bluetooth speaker?

Once you open the app store, put your finger at the buttom of the
screen, there you will find tabs, swipe right and or left until you
find the search tab. There you will find a search editor to input your

Hi, eileen,

Office 365 requires a subscription. There is also a stand-alone version of
Word for Mac. It works pretty well. Depending on what your needs are the
stand-alone version may be cheaper in the long run.

Yes, Word for Mac via Office 365. Its accessibility has room for improvement,
but it has actively been worked on by Microsoft.

Hi,

If I was going to install Ms Word for Mac on my Mac Book, does that require
that I need to also run windows & use something like Fision for the Windows
environment? Is there a version for the Mac?
