Dropbox.

2010-12-09 Thread Jesse Bollinger
Hi all,

Forgive me if this has been asked to death but I'm having a Dropbox problem. I
installed the app on my macbook but when I open it, it says Dropbox doesn't
have any windows. There doesn't seem to be a menu to add files. How do you
actually add a file to Dropbox with Voiceover?

Thanks,

Jesse

iBooks quirk.

2010-04-29 Thread Jesse Bollinger

Hi all,

Not sure if it's me or a quirk in iBooks. Sometimes when I'm finished
with a page and I do the flick to the next page it starts reading but
doesn't seem like it kept the place. For instance if the page ends in a
middle of a sentense and goes to the next page it doesn't continue with
that sentense. Also it seems to run some words together. I guess it
could be the page being messed up in the epub itself though. Just
wondering if anyone else experiences this.

Hi Jesse,

If you have epub files, you should just be able to add them to iTunes
(Command-O shortcut for "Add to Library", then navigate the dialogue
window as you would for Finder and press (VO-Space) the Open button).
They'll show up under "Books" in your iTunes sources table. This
category now holds both eBooks and Audiobooks. If you want to read
these on your iPad in iBooks, they'll have to be DRM-free files, and
you'll need to have the iBooks app -- which is only downloadable if
your account is with the U.S. iTunes store, according to what I've
read. To sync the files you would connect the iPad to your Mac,
select the device in your sources table, stop interacting, then
navigate (VO-Right arrow) to the "Books" tab for the iPad, VO-Space to
press, then check the box to "Sync Books" and either "Sync All" or
check the selections you want to sync.

If the iPad's apps are like the iPod Touch and iPhone, you should be
able to double tap the iTunes app, and either select Podcasts and look
through the selected podcasts in various categories or do a Search and
type in a particular podcast series. These downloads are individual
episode selections, and are separate from the way iTunes on your
computer handles subscriptions.

Subject: Fwd: Apple regulating news and political content???

I got this and thought it would be of interest to some n the
list. Not
sure what I think yet.
Carolyn

Mark Fiore's job is making fun of political figures. And he's
actually quite good at it, according to the Pulitzer Prize Committee.

Earlier this week it named him the winner of the Pulitzer
Prize in
editorial cartooning, but Apple rejected an iPhone app containing
Fiore's
cartoons in
December. The reason? Apple said applications that
ridicule public
figures are not allowed.

That presents a problem for Fiore, and all editorial
cartoonists and
political satirists who'd like to submit their work to the App
Store for
that matter,
because, well, that's what they do.

Luckily for Fiore, the Nieman Journalism Lab took up his
cause and
wrote about his app's rejection. A day later Apple relented, and
on Friday
asked Fiore
to resubmit. The New York Times reported Friday afternoon
that Steve
Jobs himself called it "a mistake that's being fixed." That's
great for
Fiore, but
not every political satirist is a Pulitzer winner who can get
publicity for his app's unfair rejection.

So what does that mean for the future of news or editorial
products
on the iPad and iPhone? It's safe to assume that quashing
political satire
isn't Apple's
goal here. But it's a legitimate concern for the journalism
community that to be featured on the App Store they have to
submit their
news content to a
company unafraid to exercise what sometimes seems like
arbitrary
control. The thinking goes, what if Apple finds a headline
offensive? Or
what if there's
an unfavorable article about Apple itself even? That's not
to say
Apple would do that, but its inconsistent handling of App Store
submissions
sets a troubling
   precedent.

   The rejected-then-unrejected brouhaha surrounding Fiore's
cartoon
app, and others like it--the Mad Magazine artist's Bobble Rep app
comes to
mind--also
illuminate the central issue facing Apple with the App
Store right
now. The company's decision to tightly control what is and is not
allowed on
the iPhone
or iPad has led it to develop a review process that is not
sustainable.

ther is an application that works with VO?

Thanks,

Gestures help.

2009-10-17 Thread Jesse Bollinger

Hi all,

I just started getting into the trackpad gestures with my macbook. I
read the help and it said to use the rotor by rotating two fingers
around the pad. I move my fingers in a circle but nothing happens. It
just moves me across the screen. Is there a trick I'm missing?

Re: pod cast 11, new features of voiceover now available

2009-09-07 Thread Jesse Bollinger

I also enjoy the new option to read the text to the right. Call me a
windows bot if you want but after using the evil Jaws for nearly 12
years now it's just what I'm comfortable with. I'm glad to hear this
cursor reading wasn't invented by Jaws though so it can't be labeled as
"VO trying to act like Windows" which must be like the end of the world.
Lol. Since I got Snow Leopard I've been using the laptop more oftin
because of quick nav and this cursor feature.

Skype and Voice Over.

2009-09-05 Thread Jesse Bollinger

Hello everyone,

I find skype very easy to use with VO but I do have a question. When I
am on Windows it causes my screen reader to shut off when I'm in a call.
I haven't had a voice chat with anyone using the mac yet. Does VO turn
off during the call?

Thanks,

Voiceover problem.

2009-08-30 Thread Jesse Bollinger

Hi,

I've noticed a problem in snow leopard. When I go into any program
with a table, VO starts studdering and keeps saying "Row 1 selected"
and I have to exit the app in order to stop it from freezing. It
mainly happens in the sidebar of text edit and in safari. Anyone else
experiencing this?

Snow Leopard thoughts so far.

2009-08-29 Thread Jesse Bollinger

Hi,

With everyone giving their thoughts on SL I figured I'd give my two
cents also. The install went very well and took about 45 minutes. I
wasn't sure how it would go but everything went on with out a hitch
which made me very happy. I'm one of those people who no matter how easy
everyone else has it, I always have problems. So just the fact it
installed fine was a good sign.

I love the new quicknav mode. It makes navigating a breeze. I haven't
tried out the trackpad mode all that much. Attempted it a bit last night
and it seemed unusual but I really haven't played with it yet. I'll
probably do that this weekend. Overall I'm very glad I upgraded to SL.
It makes me love the Mac even more than before. I haven't experienced
any major bugs for those who are worried about upgrading. I would highly
reccomend it to anyone. It's a great advance in an already awesome OS.

Not sure if this is my fault or not. In Leopard if I pressed control

Probably a simple question.

2009-07-16 Thread Jesse Bollinger

Hi all,

This is probably really simple but after reading the help I still
can't seem to get it to work. I am reading a text file or webpage and
lose my place. The VO help says you can search for text using the VO f
command. I do that and hit enter and VO says the word and that it is
highlighted. So I assumed it found the first instance of that word. I
navigate to the HTML content area but it has placed me at the
beginning of the page. I tried the go to next VO g command with no
luck. Am I doing something wrong? Or does the find command not take
you directly to the word or phrase you searched for on the page. Sorry
this was a bit long-winded.

Thank you,

Jesse

Strange Itunes problem.

2009-06-11 Thread Jesse Bollinger

Hi all,

I'm having a wierd problem with Itunes. I've subscribed to some
podcasts and want to listen to them. The sources table informs me I
have two podcasts available. I tab over to try and get to the song
table to choose them but Voiceover goes from sources to search back to
sources. I have the same problem in the music section as well. Oddly
enough, it doesn't happen with tv or movies which are empty. I have
the latest version of Itunes 8.2. Any clues?

Thanks,

Jesse

Hi all,

Forgive me if this has been covered before but I can't find an answer to
it. I've subscribe to podcasts but can't figure out how to cycle through
them after I have done so. I go to the sources table and choose podcasts
but can't seem to find out how to switch between specific podcasts. All
I can do is play the first eppisode of the first cast in my list by
hitting play. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
