Re: Apple TV and files not purchased
ripping DVD's is quite a painless process. Some like hand break, others like DVDRemaster. Personally, I like DVDRipperPro. It is 100 percent accessible, and is very inexpensive. It is 20 bucks, DVDRemaster last I checked was 50 bucks, hand break is free, but is clunky at best. JMO Sent from my MobileOffice On Nov 30, 2014, at 3:22 AM, M. Now, having said this, I will give you the broad strokes in order to accomplish your goal. By the way, I use my Apple TV, frequently, to stream media which I personally created or purchased from sources other than Apple. As a general rule, I import any media that I may want to stream to my Apple TV, into iTunes. Also, the Apple TV and the computer containing the iTunes Library must be on the same network; and, while you're at it, make sure they are both signed into the same iTunes account. Next, in order for the Apple TV to see the media in your iTunes Library, iTunes must be open on the computer. Finally, from within the Apple TV interface, select Computers and you will see all of the open iTunes Libraries and you can drill down until you locate your desired media. Always keep in mind that there are several ways of streaming media to the Apple TV but I find the above method the most convenient and strait-forward. trouble with me.com iMap settings
Okay, I've tried everything. Deleting all my accounts from apple mail. Googled iMap settings for mobile me, and still can't receive from my me.com address. Re: how much ram/hd space to allocate to virtual win7?
Well, it all depends on what version and size. You need at least 2 gig of ram for a 64 bit machine. And when you do tell it how much ram, it's not going to go by gigs, it's going to go by MB's. So 1024 is 1 gig, and 2048 will be 2 gigs. Also, with version 4 I didn't need help installing anything. But with version 3 I did. You might want to keep someone with site around just in case. Re: Does VM Fusion work with JAWS?
I have it working in my VM flawlessly. The trick is to have it start at start up, and check the box that says always start up for this user. Just for backup, I always create a desc top short cut so if jaws doesn't start, I can just hit alt control J and jaws will come on. If you do it in fusion however, the keys you define will work in all virtual machines you have. If these are all windows, there is no problem. Regarding the fusion way of doing it: go into fusion's preferences with command comma. Then choose the keyboard item from the toolbar and do the following in the first tab sheet. In this key definition screen you have a from section, and a to, section. In from, choose right option, from the combo box. There are checkboxes, but ignore them for now. In the to, section, go for insert. Now, you cannot simply tab away from the to, combo box, because it will then replace your chosen insert key with the tab key. V O right won't work either because the combo box is still open and any key will be interpreted as a destination mapping. Just command tab out of fusion and then command tab back in again. Now, the combo is closed, and you can go to the ok button as normal. So in short, map your right option key to insert, by defining it in the fusion preferences. Re: going from an MBP to a MacBook Air
From my understanding, the MBA is almost as fast as the MBP, since it uses a SSD, witch is flash, and allows data to load faster. But yes, the mbp does allow to add more ram and a bigger hard drive. I was told that the processor speck doesn't really matter since the SSD loads significantly faster. I can see why you're sticking with the MBP, though - it's definitely the more powerful device. And I totally agree, if they ever combine the Air with the iPad, I'd be all over it! I was originally thinking I'd replace the MacBook with the Air, but I can't see going without a built-in DVD drive, at least not at this point. So I don't know. In addition to the work stuff, I've got some more plane travel coming up over the next few months, and it'd be nice to be able to take the Air. I'd definitely use it, I know that, but it's a luxury, not a necessity. Apparently, Apple does not think I need this feature in the latest version of iCal. (grimace) While there are certainly some very fine third-party applications that will allow me to see only upcoming appointments, I am of the opinion that less is better; therefore, I resist installing such applications unless absolutely necessary. Besides, there is no guaranty that said third-party applications, for which I may have to pay a premium, will be VoiceOver (Apple’s software screen reading solution for the blind and low vision) accessible. Enter the Mac OS X Lion Dashboard of which I am growing quite fond, and all its marvelous, and for the most part free, widgets. It is with such a widget that we can view only upcoming or active appointments. Oh, keep in mind that iCal refers to appointments as events. Let’s get started. 1. Download and install a free Mac OS Dashboard widget called iCal Events. Its description is as follows: iCal Events... Face the day! Always know what's next on your schedule using iCal Events. iCal Events displays upcoming events from multiple iCal calendars in a beautiful, resizable widget for Dashboard. You can see up to two weeks of upcoming events in the same widget without needing to open iCal. 2. After installing the widget, I suggest that you close the web browser used to download the widget. 3. Now go to the Dashboard and see the widget in action. I suggest using the key combination [Option+LeftArrow] to quickly jump to the Dashboard. Please note that you can change the number of days shown in the widget by clicking on the Info button. I'm assuming a banner is a frame, but why would the terminology change? also, instead of reading me peoples' first and last name as it used too, it now just says their facebook nicknames or sometimes just profile.php or a bunch of numbers. it's like it's looking under the link title at maybe a badly coded alt text? or some other text not visible on the screen. why would it be doing this? The web site also lets you download a free trial version of the software. Note that at present purchasing through the developer's web site and purchasing through the Mac App store are two different processes. The Mac App store doesn't provide for trial downloads and additional files. However, the process of automatic update is simpler. You might want to download the trial, then delete it and purchase from the Mac App Store if you decide to get DVD Remaster. Handbrake is also accessible, and free. Most review comparisons I've read state that you get substantially faster rips if you use DVD Remaster. Also, if you want separate audio extraction, you want the Pro version $49.99 vs. $39.99), which I believe is what is sold in the Mac App Store. HTH. moving around mail?
Okay, I have played with this for a couple of days so I could make sure it worked. What I did to get to the top of my messages without having to push 4 or more keys, is created a key commander. So to get to the top of my mailbox, any of them, all I have to do is hit option key and the number one. Now getting to the bottom, I still have to use VO plus shift plus end, and since the end key is on the right arrow, that's 4 keys I have to push to get to the bottom. But 90 percent of the time I don't want to go to the bottom of my mailbox or folder, so this partial solution fits me well. HTH Are you married and a Christian? Re: MOVING Mail
Another way this could be accomplished is: place folders in your favorites bar, once you have them in the order you want make sure you know the exact order. Once you know the correct order, go to the message you want to move, hit command control plus the corresponding mailbox where you want the message moved, and it will move it, it will even announce what folder it has been moved too. At first, I was using the classic view, but now I have switched to the new standard 3 column layout. I have my messages grouped by conversation (collapsed) and I used to hit enter to open all of the conversations (previously known as threads) in various windows. The oldest message would appear at the front, but in Lion the newest window opens in the front. So I have stopped using this method. I then listened to Mark Taylor's podcast on how he uses Mail. He simply just uses the tab key to jump between each of the 3 columns. I tried this method and found it ok, but I felt it did not always auto read the message. However, it is not a bad approach if you only want to use one key on the keyboard. Whilst Mark is in the message contents view, he then uses the arrow keys to move back and forth (left and right) between the messages within the thread). interesting approach, but I think I have found a better way. I looked to see if Apple had uploaded the VO online help file yet, and indeed they have. Apple suggest using VO+J to jumps between the messages list and the content of the message. I tried this and it works great. So now I just scroll down my messages list, if I see a thread or conversation I like the look of, then I just expand it by pressing the right arrow and then move to the first message in the thread/conversation and then press VO+J, VO will then start reading the message immediately and skips reading the mail header (who the message is from) and to jump back to the messages list, just either hit backspace to delete the message or press VO+J again which will take you back to the messages list to where you were in the list. I find this approach works really well, and I might implement the favourites function in lion mail to quickly jump between mail boxes and folders by holding down the command key and a number. For more information about the new favourites feature in mail,, then check out Ricardo Walker's excellent podcast. I would be interested to know how others are now using mail, and what about using it with the track pad? I have not done it that way yet as I have mainly been using Lion on my iMac with a full keyboard. However, I still really miss being able to jump to the top or bottom of my messages list (VO+command and either up or down arrow), this no longer works. Re: great wireless headset for computer
Possative, since there is a usb adapter that needs to plug in to your computer to make it wireless, and I doubt they will ever put a usb port on the IPhone JMO Sent from Minister Miller's IPhone On Jul 29, 2011, at 4:20 PM, Christine Grassman cgrassman1...@gmail.com wrote: You're positive this is not compatible with the iPhone? And I got some recommendations on what headset to pick with a mic. I wanted to take it a step further though, I wanted to be wireless, so I could move around while using skype, and even be on my IMac. So I got the logitech wireless headset with behind the head design. It ran about 99 bucks retail but I got it off amazon for about 71 bucks. But this thing is flawless! It's literally plug and play. Only thing you need to do is go to system preferences and tell your mac to use it, and your done. I live inn a 1350 square foot town house, and there is no where in the house I couldn't go without losing the connection. The sound quality for me is great, I don't know about the mic yet, I haven't had a chance to set up skype or vantrillow on my computer yet since I did a clean install of lion on tuesday. And the best part for me is, since I don't need the screen, I can work on things from the kitchen table, witch is about 25 feet from my desk, and the keyboard or the headset never loses or breaks up the connection. So if your looking for a wireless headset for the computer, this is the way to go. The only thing that would make it better, is being able to connect to the IPhone. Can't have everything though. Re: sorting folders in favorites of mail, help needed pls
The check boxes I'm not sure of. Maybe it's the highlighted folder at the time. As for the mouse click up and down, it only works if quick nav is off. favorites mailboxes?
Okay, like the fact that you can drag and drop mailboxes in your favorites. 2 things I do not like. 1. The drafts, sent items, and notes are not of any real use to me, but you cannot move them from the favorites. 2. This favorites bar thing would solve my issue of hiding mail boxes, only problem is, it doesn't allow you to tab to your list of messages like it does when your using the mailbox list view. 3. I said 2 but there is one more. When it puts your in box in the favorites, it combines all your in boxes. For example, I have 3 accounts, and it's putting all my messages together instead of separating them. Maybe I missed something, but this is what I have observed so far. Re: best way to handle mail in the new layout?
I think it has to do with you trying to drag and drop right after one another. I got this same message, but when I went back a few minutes later it let me perform the task. They work for me and have sped up navigation in Mail considerably. You are welcome to use whatever works for you and ignore anything that doesn't fit your frame of mind. The two things I'll touch on here are use of the Favourites bar and Conversations. Favourites: • You can put your favourite Mailboxes into the Favourites bar by dragging and dropping them there. • The order they appear in the Favourites bar allows you to use the cmd key to quickly get to specific boxes. That is, the first item in the Favourite bar would be cmd-1, the second would be cmd-2 and so on. • When you drop something into the Favourites bar, it will land just after or to the right of the item you are focused on. • You can use this method to re-order items in the Favourites bar. • To remove an unwanted item from the Favourites bar, simply drag it off. That is, grab it and release it outside of the Favourites bar. I just drop it on the divider and its gone. • Now with minimal keystrokes, I can get between Mailboxes and right after I press cmd-1 for example, VO automatically brings focus to the Messages area where I can just use up and down arrows to navigate. • I also do not need the Mailboxes list shown either unless I wish to get to a less used Mailbox. It is easy to Show/Hide by pressing cmd-shift-m. Conversations: Not perfect yet but much easier for me using the following: • Arrow up or down and let VO announce the message and how many messages in the Conversation. • I just press return when I wish to read stuff in that Conversation. The problem is that it always reads the newest one first and suggestions to fix that haven't worked for me as I prefer my Messages Table to have the newest at the top and my Conversations to have the oldest at the top. • anyway, to get around this, I Stop Interacting with the Message content, then if I VO-left arrow through the messages in the Conversation, it does the trick. • If I press cmd-w, it closes the entire conversation. Hope this helps some of you. Any other ideas are welcome. signatures?
Okay, I'm loving the new mail so much I'm ready to ditch outlook 2010. Only thing I can't figure out to do is how to choose what signature I want to use. What I mean is, in outlook even if I have a default signature for each account I can change it whenever I want too. Have tried that in mail on the mac, but the only options are the default that has been create for that account, or none. It won't bring up the other signatures that I have created. Re: Mac Cleaner plus dock icons
Well, periform has this thing called C Cleaner all one word. It's been on windows for quite sometime, but just this past june they released a beta for the mac. They suggest not using it unless your an advanced user, but I've only been on mac for a little over a month and found no issues with using it. Re: trying to download lion?
I was told by a rep in the store that I would get an email. What the rep didn't tell me is that I had to go to apple.com/macosx/uptodate Notice the spelling. Once on this page you will need to fill in a form that will ask you for the date you bought your mac, the serial number, and your apple ID and password. ONce you do this, and you meet the qualifications, it will display your redemption code, as well as emailing it to you. As for downloading it without installing, just cancel installation once the down load is complete, and then go find the proper file and burn it to disk. I presume one has to close apps from the launchpad now or something, but that seems much more cumbersome than just being able to press Cmd-Q. iTunes is *ungodly slow, honestly, it's as bad as being on a Windows machine. And you don't seem to be able to scroll down through your list of songs any more, though this may be part of the speed issue. Lastly, VO doesn't seem to track very well. For example, when I open an app, I'm taken to the desktop, and have to perform a Cmd-tab to actually get myself into the app. Lastly, I installed Samantha, but gave up on her. I'm now back with Victoria. Samantha was not indicating sentence endings at all. If there was a period, she just went right on reading with no pause or inflection, as though the period wasn't even there. Re: Wow, what's up with Lion!
As for the welcome message not being said on start up, there is a text box in your preferences for you to tell what you want voice over to say on start up. For example, I have mine set to say Hello Kliphton, voice over ready So I thought this was a pretty handy feature, to have it say whatever you want. I am also not experiencing the sluggishness in mail, I actually like it better than sl mail. But I also have only been using a mac for a little over a month and still have a lot to learn. I don't have any of the issues you're describing with mail, and haven't tried to play with saphari yet, but this start-up stuff really needs to get figured out. I've also discovered that VO doesn't tell me whether or not trackpad commander is on. I don't use it much, but like to practice from time to time, and either I'm not doing the jesture right to enable it, or something else is going on, but VO never really says one way or the other what its status is. As I posted earlier, I'm not necessarily saying I regret updating right away, but there is that little part of my brain that's yelling I told you you should have waited. LOL! Anyway, it's a learning adventure, that's for sure! -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Shen Sent: Thursday, July 21, 2011 2:37 PM To: macvisionaries Subject: Wow, what's up with Lion! OK, here are just a few of my impressions. Most of them come from the way I use Mac, so a lot of them are personalized and most habitual. So I am sure there is room for improvements in both Lion and my habits. First, has anyone noticed that VoiceOver no longer speaks the welcome message? Ever? After installing Lion, I have yet to hear VoiceOver speak the welcome message once. And this is after restarting, or turning off then on the Mac at least a dozen times. I know this because half the time, after logging in, VoiceOver is dead silent, it doesn't say anything. The other h50 percent of the time, it says com.apple.dock.extras. So what is com.apple.dock.extras? Why can't the focus go to the desktop like Snow Leopard used to? OK, so we can press VO-Shift-D, or command-Tab to go to the desktop. But why do that when Snow Leopard used to put you right there after logging in? This seems like such a weird behavior. My second observation is that the entire system seems to run a little slower than it used to. I don't know if this is because I updated Snow Leopard to Lion. Will my system run more smoothly if I installed Lion from a clean install? This is not Windows, this is Mac. Does it really make that much of a difference? If so, why would Apple make us update instead of providing a dvd for clean installs? If I were a betting man, I'd bet that even on a clean install, my system would run more or less about the same. The other major issue is Mail. For example, Mail has turned into a waiting game instead of the snappy fast response it used to be. Now when I press up or down arrow keys to scroll through the message list, every few times, Mail would say Mail busy and take about 2 seconds before reading me the email message. This has never happened in Snow Leopard. The other issue I have is the download window in Safari. In Snow Leopard, it used to be that when you click on a link to download something, a second window pops up and you can immediately see what you are downloading. Now with Lion, you have to move from the html content, move to the toolbar, interact with it, find the download button, click it, then you can see the downoad progress. This may be better for a visual user. But for a VoiceOver user, it has gone from a window that pops up automatically, to forcing the user to navigate to find out the info. I'm starting to see a trend that things may be accessible, but not necessarily user friendly. Apple may be good at making

Hi, Unfortunately, I have not found any bible study software that is very accessible at all. However I have found a solution which is almost as good for me, and some might consider it to be better. Optasia ministries offers a free library of bible study material in alternative formats for blind people.. The library comes on a DVD, and you can copy the files to your hard drive to study whenever you want, or just read from the dvd. This library contains many different bible translations, and more commentaries and other reading material than you'll ever know what to do with. The files are mostly in RTF format that you can read in textedit, or in html format. At their web site, you can read a full list of what is included and find the phone number and email address to request a copy. Here is the link. http://www.optasiaministry.org/ I hope this is helpful. This really is a goldmine of good materials.
