Re: Still can't use mail after upgrade to Yosemity

2014-10-26 Thread pam francis
Hi
Are you able to get to your mail via any web portle? I know it's a pain in the
butt, however, it might lead you to some answers. I am not sure how Apple
handles encryption on default. Do you think somehow file encryption may have
gotten turned on keeping your Internet connection from recognizing your mail
app, thereby not accessing your mail?
If I am off base please tell me.

Yosemity & Itunes

2014-10-17 Thread pam francis
Hi folks,
I am about to throw this computer across the room. I am trying to use Itunes as
it is layed out in Yosemity. There seems to be no more sidebar allowing me to
get to artist, album or song.
If this is what Apple calls progress, I will sell this thing & go back to buggy
windows. It can’t be any worse than this no good garbage of an OS.
In more cases than not, I hear either button or image.

Thanks in advance for saving my sanity if I had any.
Pam FrancisIf the keystrokes have changed, can someone please enlighten me
before my hair & this computer are no more?

Re: a really bad problem with the Facebook app for iPad.

2012-10-13 Thread Pam Francis
Hello how are you? Have you tried tapping on the newsfeed when you reopen your
Facebook app? That may refresh your news feed an intern refresher notifications.

Pam Francis

On Oct 13, 2012, at 9:47 PM, Chris Gilland wrote:

Okay. This is ridiculous! I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.

Normally, I am very good at figuring these things out, however, I even had my
mother look, who is completely cited, and she cannot even figure it out. Here's
the situation. I have a friend, actually a relative, to be more precise, who
commented on a photo which I uploaded to Facebook. She also commented on a
couple of textual wall posts that I created. I textual wall posts, I simply
just mean status messages. Anyway, I had Facebook set up to text me every time
that I get a comment to my posts. So all of a sudden, I received a text message
from 32665 That tells me patricia McCorkle commented on one of my status
messages. The problem is, I actually open to the Facebook app on my iPad And
not on my iPhone. I sold that I had five notifications all total. I double tap
the notification spy button, and that presented me with the pop up which
contained all of my notifications if I could double tap on to expand and react
to. Sorry for the typos before going any further by the way. I am using Siri to
dictate this email, as I am not by my computer. I'm actually outside on my back
screened in porch enjoying the nice weather. So please forgive me. Anyway, the
problem that I am running into is, after dismissing this Papa, even if I close
the app and completely get it out of my app switcher, and then go back in, I
find it now, it is saying notifications zero button. Normally, this would be
correct. The problem however is, Patricia Commented once again on one of my
status messages, I do not even believe the same one, while I still had the
Facebook app running on my iPad. I haven't closed the app before she commented
the second time. Now, upon looking at the notifications icon, without first
double tapping on it, I am noticing that it still is showing notifications
zero. It is almost as if it is not refreshing in real time. I definitely would
not however expect for it too. Ultimately, my bottom line point in all of this
is to say, how do I go about refreshing my newsfeed, notifications, etc., with
the iPad app specifically. I am on the most recent update. I know that with a
lot of apps on my iPhone, there is a thing that says hold down to refresh. With
that, I can simply double tap and then slide my finger down and it will
automatically refresh. That does not seem to be happening here though. I cannot
find such an icon anywhere. As I said, worst scenario, you would think that if
I simply got rid of the app out of the app switcher, and then went and
relaunched it from my home screen, that would Denver fresh automatically.
However, that does not even seem to be working. I am just curious what needs to
happen to get this to properly work. I don't know about the iPhone version, as
I hardly have used it, but the iPad version looks very very promising.

Again as I said: please excuse all the typos in this message. I am quite
confident that there are quite a few. Usually, Siri does very well with me
dictating, however, as of lately, it is really been crappy.

Anyhow, I think you all get the point, nevertheless. Please do let me know, if
any of you guys have any earthly idea how to get this to properly work. Just to
give you a couple more specs, this is an iPad third-generation, running the
very most newest version of the Facebook app, and it is currently running on
iOS six. More specifically, this is the iPad third-generation, 16 gig black.
Not that that matters… But just figured I would tell you anyway. Smile.

Chris.

siriusxm

2012-10-11 Thread Pam Francis
Hi folks,
In a previous thread, someone was asking about the accessibility
to the siriusxm site.
I have until recently subscribed for several years. I finally gave it up
largely to its inaccessibility.
When Sirius & XM were separate entities, their respective sites were somewhat
usable. However, since the merger, the flash & all of the pretties for the
sighted community's benefit told me they no longer wanted my money nor my
patronage. Their ipad App is half usable. Last I knew, their iphone app was
still crap.
I realize we as visually impaired consumers can not stomp our feet & throw
tantrums; however, if a service takes our money as a subscription
as does siriusxm, or services like it, we deserve a means to facilitate our
business along side our sighted counterparts.
As a general rule their customer service is outsourced
to other parts of the world. Seldom did I find anyone who would help me take
care of anything supposedly accessible on the site. I wish those luck who try.
I have found plenty of accessible content on the web that more than makes up
for the inadequacies of siriusxm.

Apple CEO 'extremely sorry' for Maps flap

Tim Cook says the company fell short on its commitment to its customers, and
suggests using alternatives.
by Roger Cheng
September 28, 2012 6:07 AM PDT

Apple CEO Tim Cook to the most drastic step yet to address the growing furor
over its map application, saying he was "extremely sorry" for the frustration
and vowing to improve the program.

"With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment,"
Cook said in a statement, which was first reported on by TechCrunch.

An apology from Apple is a rare thing, but the company has stumbled from time
to time, including its recent Antennagate issue with the iPhone 4, and has been
forced to address the problem. The maps flap has allowed competitors such as
Motorola Mobility take a swipe at the smartphone giant, and left it vulnerable
to criticism.

Cook also takes the unusual step of recommending alternatives such as the Bing,
MapQuest, or Waze apps, or using Google or Nokia's map Web sites while the
company works to improve its app.

The issue began when Apple opted to boot Google Maps from iOS6, essentially
forcing customers to use its own native app, which many complain lacks details,
is filled with distorted images, and provides the wrong directions.

Here's the full letter:

   To our customers,

At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best
experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last
week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the
frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to
make Maps better.

We launched Maps initially with the first version of iOS. As time
progressed, we wanted to provide our customers with even better Maps including
features such as turn-by-turn directions, voice integration, Flyover and
vector-based maps. In order to do this, we had to create a new version of Maps
from the ground up.

There are already more than 100 million iOS devices using the new Apple Maps,
with more and more joining us every day. In just over a week, iOS users with
the new Maps have already searched for nearly half a billion locations. The
more our customers use our Maps the better it will get and we greatly
appreciate all of the feedback we have received from you.

While we're improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps
from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by
going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web
app.

Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the
world. We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stop
until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard.

Re: selling my mac

2012-09-27 Thread Pam Francis
I have both an air & a macbook pro. They both have their place. However the
pro, especially the 2011 edition is the last one upgradable. The air is
completely sealled as are the new macbook pros. I am going to hang on to my
2011 macbook pro as long as software upgrades will allow. The air is lighter,
but there is a definite trade off.
