Re: interesting observation, potentially a voiceover bug
I can replicate this. I did not see it before Sierra. VO will just say how many rows are selected without saying what’s in them. The good news is this is easy to overcome. I think the bug may be in Voiceover focus not always properly tracking where you are. If you use the VO keys to make sure the scroll area is in Voiceover focus, the problem goes away.. I have not seen it consistently, but I can recreate it by stopping interaction with the scroll area. > On Nov 8, 2016, at 6:44 AM, Andrew Lamanche wrote: > > I have just tried selecting contiguous files, and Voiceover provides > feedback: after each file I add to selection, Voiceover says its name and > then "added to selection" after a tiny pause. I have just tried selecting contiguous files, and Voiceover provides feedback: after each file I add to selection, Voiceover says its name and then "added to selection" after a tiny pause. My Favorite New Word Game and An Interesting Observation
Hello Everyone, Just so you know, I am cross-posting this email. I've been downloading games, both paid and free, from the Apple App Store since 2008. In all that time, I have found only one, Aurify, that even remotely held my interest. Unfortunately, that remarkable audio game only worked, properly, up until iOS 3.1.3. Recently, I discovered a second, out of all of the hundreds I've tried, game that I find absolutely, totally, and completely addictive. The most wonderful part of this new game is that you don't need to download any special apps in order to participate. To participate, one only needs a Twitter account. That's right, the game is based on Twitter hashtags. First, let me tell you how to play, then I'll make a recommendation as how best to get started. Every day, various organizations or people create a hashtag theme; for example "why dates fail", which would look like #WhyDatesFail. Next, they invite everyone to post a tweet containing a clever answer including the hash tag phrase in the tweet. For example, I might tweet "Because she forgot to remove her wedding ring. #WhyDatesFail". Get it? The point is that people compete to see who can come up with the most clever submissions. Remember, this can all be done using only Twitter hashtags. To see the various entries, for any hashtag, all one need do is to simply perform a search, using the hashtag phrase. Doing this will show you all of the entries. You can share them, retweet them, like them, or just ignore them. I am truly amazed at how funny and clever people can be. Now again, this is all without doing anything except finding and searching for hashtags on Twitter. As some of you may recall, I recommended the free app called Tag Stalker, for finding and following hashtags, in a previous post. Still with me? One major source used to create these community hashtags is a free app called Hashtag Roundup. While this app is reasonably VoiceOver accessible, it could definitely use some work. The only reason I'm recommending it, here, is because all of the basic, free functions of the app are VoiceOver accessible. However the more advanced areas, which consequently cost money, are not-at least, the buttons are not labeled properly. Should you decide to download the app, I recommend that you use it only to discover the currently trending hashtags. Then, once you do this, you can close the app and use your preferred Twitter client to participate. The Hashtag Roundup app makes a game out of this process in so far that it gives you points each time someone on Twitter likes, shares, or retweets your submissions. One more thing, that I find very interesting, before I paste in the description and link, to the Roundup app: In case you didn't know, very often, companies release apps in both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Depending upon the app, sometimes screen reader accessibility is better in the iOS version and sometimes it's better in the Android version. I discovered that HashTag Roundup is vastly more accessible in the Android version than it is on iOS, at this time. So, if you have an Android device, you may prefer to use Roundup on it, until the iOS version can be updated. Just as an F.Y.I., I'm running Android Marsh Mellow on a Samsung Galaxy S6 Smartphone. I hope that those of you who do decide to explore the iOS version of the Hashtag Roundup app will write a review in the App Store requesting greater VoiceOver accessibility. Okay, I think that about covers it. I will paste in both the description and link to Hashtag Roundup below my signature. Good luck, enjoy, and I'll see you on Twitter. Mark HashTag Roundup Description Hashtag Roundup brings you the very best hashtag games on Twitter. Hashtag games are word games where Twitter users contribute clever and funny responses to a common theme. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hashtag-roundup/id985741893?mt=8 -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. Re: interesting observation with safari 9
The only way I know of to back out of the beta program is to reinstall the Os to stable. Once you've done that, go into system preferences > app store and find the change button next to prerelease updates. Click on that and disable it and then you won't see more beta updates. It will still list the previous prerelease updates as being purchased but it will not autoupdate you to them anymore. It's a bit of a pain so get your backup disk handy and lay in a good supply of food and beverages as you're going to be there awhile. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: interesting observation with safari 9
Yes. There is a secondary effect as well: because elements are no longer “Clickable” you often can’t click individual words in an element, which is rather less straightforward to work around. I’m not sure what the situation is like on El Capitan yet, but on Yosemite one could not click an individual word if the element was not “clickable” which it sometimes wasn’t detected as such even though it was. And yes you should be getting Safari 9 from the Mac App Store as a software update. Try running “softwareupdate -l” in Terminal to see if it shows up as a system update at all. Re: interesting observation with the newest skype
Not sure what I could be doing wrong, as I just got the busy again and Skype isn't responding yet again. Also the few times I was able to send a message to a friend on Facebook they didn't get it yet it appears in history. I even tried doing the test call, hit return on it and nothing yet it also appears in history. Clicking VO sift m on a contact name completely freezes everything up. Can someone else try that command and let me know if it freezes up on them and they have to force quit Skype to start using it again. Hey Theresa, Just deleted Skype reinstalled, and still busy busy busy. When I got to Force Quit Skype says it is not responding. Does Skype not work with Facebook, as my account is logged in through Facebook, and I am attempting to send a buddy message to someone on Facebook, and that is when the whole Skype thing goes into busy mode. Hi, brian, Skype is working beautifully on my Mac Mini 2009 running Mountain Lion, and it is completely accessible. I get very brief "busy" messages when trying to access the home screen, but these go away within seconds. You might try a Skype reinstall and see if it helps. Re: interesting observation with the newest skype
Hey all, so I just installed Skype and figured I would give it a try, I got logged in through Facebook, and now am getting a bunch of busy busy messages. Has anyone done a podcast or anything like that to getting started with Skype and Voiceover. I have played around with Skype a little before but got frustrated with it, and just gave up, as I am not sure how often I would use it. Would like to learn how to, as I think you can send messages to your Facebook contacts through it. Re: interesting observation with the newest skype
Hi there Mike and others, I find the new way Skype handles chat much more convenient to use. Have not encountered any links as of yet, but will attempt to test soon. Re: interesting observation with the newest skype
I wouldn't think it would make things any worse? What's your logic on why you think clicking links would be harder? If you want to add me, I am chris28210. I've been meaning to get up with you anyway. I sent you a Skype request a while back on an old account I used to use, but it kind a sat there for a year or so, and never was acted upon; thus, I pretty much finally just gave up on trying. If you want to add me though, I'd be happy to test that with you and we can then report our findings back to the list. interesting observation with the newest skype
Looks like the newest skype uses a different control now for displaying chat messages, it's no longer using an html view, but rather a grid. Fortunately this does not cause any problems with accessibility, actually in some ways it reads a bit better. The only thing that concerns me is, I wonder if this will make clicking on links more difficult. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
