Fwd: Apple's Snow Leopard disc will install on Tiger Macs

2009-08-27 Thread Scott Howell
For those of you running Tiger and have considered upgrading to Snow
Leopard, but are concerned you would not be able to upgrade at the $29
price will be able to do so. Of course the transition may not be as
smooth with the need to possibly upgrade some of your older Tiger
apps, but the point is you can do this if you wish. Check out the
following article.

Re: Leopard Disc

2009-07-16 Thread James & Nash

Hi Scott,

I think unfortunately , my old Mac reached that point. I am going to get
another MacBook as i do not really need the new battery of the Pro. Also the
Pro is considerably more expensive. I am currently using my Toshiba Techra
which I really like but I miss my mac so I'll use both.

Take care

Re: Leopard Disc

2009-07-16 Thread Scott Howell

James dont' recall how old your Mac is, but there is a point where it
is more cost effective to replace the machine instead of repairing it.
So, hope you get something you'll enjoy and can grow into over the
next few years.

Hi,

Re: Leopard Disc

2009-07-15 Thread Scott Howell

Alex, that is completely rediculous. Show me a source that says those
drivers don't exist. The difference in the retail copy and the copy
you get with the machine is iLife for sure, but what drivers are you
talking about. Consider what you are saying. If I purchase SL, then
that means I can't use it on my MBP and that simply would not be the
case.

Yes, Snow Leopard is a complete OS Which will only work on Intel Macs. Anyone
purchasing a new Mac from now on will be able to get Snow Leopard for the
equivalent of $9.99 instead of the $29.99 for people who have already purchased
Leopard.

Re: Leopard Disc

2009-07-15 Thread Kieren

Personally I would wait for SL if you can its only a couple of
months and unless you NEED a leopard install right now I would say
hold off.

This is just my personal opinion and the current leopard is still AU
$129 I think and the SL will be approximately AU$50.

Leopard is a complete install too SL is just Leopard heavily optimised
and made fully 64-Bit for all base apps ie mail, safari, ical etc.

Re: Leopard Disc

2009-07-15 Thread Kieren

Ok I think Clarification is needed here

OS X did and I'm not sure if it still does come in 2 slightly
different variants.

1. the retail variant which will install on any given machine as long
as the minimum hardware spec is met.
cant remember exactly but from memory its a dvd capable drive, a usb
port and possibly a firewire port, and i think a 1ghz intel or 900
Mhz PPC

2. the hardware packaged variant did have specific checks in the
installer for the actual hardware it was distributed with. I'm not
sure if they are still doing this though.

There is no licensing keys built in to OS X so there is no issue with
using a single purchased disc on multiple machines. That said your
personal morals will guide you into the appropriate purchase/fair use
policy.

I hope this clarifies things
