Fwd: Apple's Snow Leopard disc will install on Tiger Macs
For those of you running Tiger and have considered upgrading to Snow Leopard, but are concerned you would not be able to upgrade at the $29 price will be able to do so. Of course the transition may not be as smooth with the need to possibly upgrade some of your older Tiger apps, but the point is you can do this if you wish. Check out the following article. Re: Leopard Disc
Hi Scott, I think unfortunately , my old Mac reached that point. I am going to get another MacBook as i do not really need the new battery of the Pro. Also the Pro is considerably more expensive. I am currently using my Toshiba Techra which I really like but I miss my mac so I'll use both. James dont' recall how old your Mac is, but there is a point where it is more cost effective to replace the machine instead of repairing it. Re: Leopard Disc
Alex, that is completely rediculous. Show me a source that says those drivers don't exist. The difference in the retail copy and the copy you get with the machine is iLife for sure, but what drivers are you talking about. Consider what you are saying. If I purchase SL, then that means I can't use it on my MBP and that simply would not be the case. On Jul 14, 2009, at 5:39 PM, Alex wrote: > > What are you trying to do. Re: Leopard Disc
Personally I would wait for SL if you can its only a couple of months and unless you NEED a leopard install right now I would say hold off. This is just my personal opinion and the current leopard is still AU $129 I think and the SL will be approximately AU$50. Leopard is a complete install too SL is just Leopard heavily optimised and made fully 64-Bit for all base apps ie mail, safari, ical etc. Kieren On Jul 15, 5:28 am, "James & Nash" wrote: > I see, thanks Alex. Re: Leopard Disc
Ok I think Clarification is needed here OS X did and I'm not sure if it still does come in 2 slightly different variants. 1. the retail variant which will install on any given machine as long as the minimum hardware spec is met. cant remember exactly but from memory its a dvd capable drive, a usb port and possibly a firewire port, and i think a 1ghz intel or 900 Mhz PPC 2. the hardware packaged variant did have specific checks in the installer for the actual hardware it was distributed with. I'm not sure if they are still doing this though. There is no licensing keys built in to OS X so there is no issue with using a single purchased disc on multiple machines. That said your personal morals will guide you into the appropriate purchase/fair use policy. I hope this clarifies things Kieren On Jul 15, 8:07 am, Alex Jurgensen wrote: > That was not a unibody. That was not a unibody. That is why. The MBP will ship with Leopard. Regards, Alex, On 14-Jul-09, at 2:44 PM, James & Nash wrote: > > How od. It worked on my ld MacBook. Re: Leopard Disc
How od. It worked on my ld MacBook. I do not have a new Mac yet but I'm going to get the MBP I think. But if I buy the MacBook will the CD work? I was just curious as I have a copy of Leopard that I bought from the store and just wondered if it would work. Re: Leopard Disc
What are you trying to do. As I said, the retail will not work in a MBP because retail does not contain certain special drivers. Re: Leopard Disc
I see, thanks Alex. Can you still buy the retail copy or should I just wait until SL which I've heard is a complete OS as opposed to an upgrade? Re: Leopard Disc
Hi, James: The MBP ships with its own disk. The retail copy of Leopard does not work on Unibodies. Remember that the disk probably only has one lisence on it. Leopard Disc
Hi everyone, This might sound like a stupid question, but I have a copy of Leopard from when it first came out taht I bought from the store. Will this work on an MBP or does the MBP have a specific configuration that is not covered by the disc?
