Re: MacBook Inquiries.

2013-03-25 Thread Chris Blouch
All current Mac CD/DVD drives can burn CDs and DVDs. The process to do
that would need a lot more detail and depends on your source material
and what tools you are using to edit it. They do not support BluRay. Why
is a whole other interesting discussion.

2013-03-25 Thread Chris Blouch

Maybe I missed it but I didn't notice an answer to this one.

Mac laptops come with two types of displays. The Retina displays are
much higher resolution, to the point where the retina of the human eye
can't actually detect the individual pixels anymore. Of course the
Retina displays are also higher cost. Non-retina displays are all the
rest of the displays.

Re: MacBook Inquiries.

2013-03-25 Thread Chris Blouch
There is Flash, the web browser plugin that lets you play the
proprietary Flash multimedia files often used to play videos or games on
the web and is usually inaccessible. Flash is also a type of memory
which, unlike traditional computer memory, does not lose its content
when power is disconnected. So those little USB thumb drives and stuff
are sometimes called Flash drives because they use Flash memory. Flash
memory has finally become cheap enough to be used for mass storage
instead of a hard drive. While it's still more expensive than a normal
spinning disk, it is also much faster and takes much less power. It
'should' also be much more resistant to issues from bangs and bumps
because there are no moving parts.

Solid state drive use flash and no moving parts, as opposed to
conventional hard drives. THis essentially enable them to operate
faster. If you're not doing anything too terribly intensive, it may be
difficult to see immediate benefits from going with a SSD.
Conventional hard drives are significantly more economical.

Hi,
There exists a multitude of configuration options for storage. I
believe you're talking about the macBOok pro line, the one with the
optical drive.
Off the top of my head, I believe it starts out at 500Gb and up for
hard drives. And then there are a bunch of SSD flash storage
options. Quicker seek time and no moving parts etc.

How do I switch between commands help and getting started? Is there any way
to hide the getting started option? How is verbosity changed, or does this

Start with VO-h. That is the main help menu and contains all of the ways
to get help, including commands help and the getting started guide. It is
the best place to start.

Adding additional languages for VoiceOver is done through the VoiceOver
Utility under the Speech category in the Voices tab. You need to select
the, Custom, from the default voice popup button and then use the table that
will next be presented to choose the other voices you desire. Check the
boxes of the ones you want. There is a, play, button to the right for
samping voices. When you have made your selections, choose the, OK, button,
to download the voices. Be aware that some of the voices are large, so they
might take some time to download.

Once you have them, you can choose them from the popup button or, as an
easier alternative, you can use control-option-command-right or left arrow
until you get to, Efault Voice. Then use control-option-command-up or down
arrow to change the voice.

Hello Anita
www.vmware.com/fusion
is where you purchase Fusion. You do not need a Paypal account; I was
letting you know in case you have one. I was able to purchase this
without sighted assistance like any other purchase you do on the
internet. Be warned you do need an account with Vmware. It is free and
is totally accessible.

Hello Anita
Windows on mac is discussed quite a lot on this and other lists.
While it is possible to run Windows on mac, the easiest and truly
accessible way to do this is with a paid product called Vmware Fusion.
That's all I will say for now until you get your mac up and running.
I'm only trying to save confusion here, and hopefully not being more a
hindrance than a help.

Hi Anita. Yeah, unfortunately if you want a Macbook that has an optical drive,
then the MacBook Pro is the best for you. There used to be a standard white

That's the last thing I heard about the standard MacBooks so I don't know if

Solid state drive use flash and no moving parts, as opposed to conventional
hard drives. THis essentially enable them to operate faster. If you're not
doing anything too terribly intensive, it may be difficult to see immediate
benefits from going with a SSD. Conventional hard drives are significantly more
economical.

Off the top of my head, I believe it starts out at 500Gb and up for hard

Re: MacBook Inquiries.

2013-03-23 Thread Chris H

Hello Anita
an optical drive plays and write Cds/Dvds. You can get both internal and
external optical drives, called super drives.
To change VoiceOver settings press vo-f8. If you have function keys set
for hardware functions, which it is by default, you need to add fn to
the combination. Also vo is control-option, kind of like a modifier.

Windows on mac is discussed quite a lot on this and other lists.
While it is possible to run Windows on mac, the easiest and truly

Hello Anita
an optical drive plays and write Cds/Dvds. You can get both internal and
external optical drives, called super drives.
To change VoiceOver settings press vo-f8. If you have function keys set
for hardware functions, which it is by default, you need to add fn to the
combination. Also vo is control-option, kind of like a modifier.

Chris.

Start with VO-h. That is the main help menu and contains all of the ways to
get help, including commands help and the getting started guide. It is the
best place to start.

Adding additional languages for VoiceOver is done through the VoiceOver
Utility under the Speech category in the Voices tab. You need to select the,
Custom, from the default voice popup button and then use the table that will
next be presented to choose the other voices you desire. Check the boxes of
the ones you want. There is a, play, button to the right for samping voices.
When you have made your selections, choose the, OK, button, to download the
voices. Be aware that some of the voices are large, so they might take some
time to download.

Once you have them, you can choose them from the popup button or, as an
easier alternative, you can use control-option-command-right or left arrow
until you get to, Efault Voice. Then use control-option-command-up or down
arrow to change the voice.

You can hit the escape key to get out of the getting started tutorial. If
that doesn't work, try the letter v key.

Are you talking switching VoiceOver languages or the keyboard language?

 Hello Anita
Windows on mac is discussed quite a lot on this and other lists.
While it is possible to run Windows on mac, the easiest and truly
accessible way to do this is with a paid product called Vmware Fusion.
That's all I will say for now until you get your mac up and running. I'm
only trying to save confusion here, and hopefully not being more a
 hindrance than a help.

Basically, you have the Mac Book Pro 13 and 15 models. You won't want the
retina display models, as they don't have an optical drive. You then jsut have
to decide what specifications you would like on the 13 or 15 models in the
Apple Online Store. By specifications, I mean the processor, the size and type
of hard drive, your RAM and so forth.
