Re: Opening This Folder?

2022-02-02 Thread Barry Hadder
vo-space opens the folder from the dock as a stack. You can bring up the
options menu for a folder in the dock to check if stack is enabled. There are
three stack options. If fan is selected, you will need to interact with it to
read the contents.

There is no ALT key on a Mac keyboard.
The correct keyboard command To open the Downloads folder from the desktop is
CMD + OPT + L.

HDH.

Re: Opening This Folder?

2022-02-02 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Actually, “impossible” is a strong, and wrong assumption. While cmd-option-l
when at the Desktop is also my preferred mode, you can open this folder from
the Dock. When focused on the Downloads folder on your Dock, press VO-shift-m
to bring up the Contextual menu for that Dock item, type o pe e n, or maybe
even just o p and the Open choice will be presented. Press return and the
Downloads folder will open.

Later…

Re: shortcut key for opening documents folder

2010-07-15 Thread Chris Blouch
I checked mine and documents was already checked. I would think they
would set spotlight to search documents by default. That seems like the
primary use case for it.

the documents category is checked under Spotlight preferences. I

Spotlight preferences and saw that the documents category was
unchecked.

Even better, you can do command-space which brings up spotlight and
just type a few characters of the file you're wanting. It will then,
more or less instantly, show a list of matches. You can navigate this
list to get to the specific file. Search on Windows was always
horribly slow to the point of using it only in desperation. Spotlight
is fast enough that some even use it as an app launcher by typing in
Saf and arrowing down to find Safari and launch it.

  Hi list,

I set up short cut keys for both getting to the desk top and the doc with
keyboard commander. When I press the keys I assigned I jump to the desk top or
doc from any application. I'm sure you could set this up for the Documents
folder but I just jump to the desk top then use the built in commands from
there.

the bigger question for me is can't we have a single key to operate voice
over? I find it very difficult on my Mac Book to hold down option Control and
shift with my left hand then hunt around with my right hand to find the D key
to get to the short cut for the desk top. If for example the caps lock key
could be the VO keys then I could leave my fingers on the home row and
basically reach all the keyboard commands. Anyone know of a way to assign VO
to be the caps lock key or have another idea? I suppose one help could be to
use VO lock keys, that isOption Control Semi colon. I find that this also
tangles up my fingers .

shortcut key for opening documents folder

2010-07-14 Thread Donna Goodin
I have a vague recollection that someone once said there is a shortcut key for
opening the documents folder, something similar to VO_D for going to the Dock.
Is there such a key? Having to open my hard disk, and then go through all the
folders till I get to documents is really getting on my nerves, and it seems
like if you open documents from the dock, you aren't able to manipulate files
to the extent that you can if you just go in the long way.
Thanks,
Donna

You can do this from finder by pressing CMD-Shift-G for go to. Then just type

Re: shortcut key for opening documents folder

2010-07-14 Thread Chris Blouch
Even better, you can do command-space which brings up spotlight and just
type a few characters of the file you're wanting. It will then, more or
less instantly, show a list of matches. You can navigate this list to
get to the specific file. Search on Windows was always horribly slow to
the point of using it only in desperation. Spotlight is fast enough that
some even use it as an app launcher by typing in Saf and arrowing down
to find Safari and launch it.

Is there a special setting to enable command shift d to go to the desktop? It

command shift D in the finder opens up a window called desktop.

I wonder if a keyboard commander key could be created to open up the documents
folder (or any folder for that matter) then you would not have to be in the
finder to open the docs folder.

Re: shortcut key for opening documents folder

If you're going to use Spotlight to quickly find documents, make sure the
documents category is checked under Spotlight preferences. I kept wondering
why it didn't find my grocery list, then I opened Spotlight preferences and saw
that the documents category was unchecked.

On Jul 14, 2010, at 11:11 AM, Chris Blouch wrote:

Even better, you can do command-space which brings up spotlight and just type
a few characters of the file you're wanting. It will then, more or less
instantly, show a list of matches. You can navigate this list to get to the
specific file. Search on Windows was always horribly slow to the point of
using it only in desperation. Spotlight is fast enough that some even use it
as an app launcher by typing in Saf and arrowing down to find Safari and
 launch it.

Hello Anna,

You can find a lot of shortcuts like these in the Go menu in the Finder.

Wherever a menu item has a shortcut, you'll find it after the item description.
Knowing shortcuts saves so much time.

Cheers,

Still nothing. command down arrow does nothing here. Am I missing a step?

  HI chris;

have you tried pressing enter on the folder in the dock, that you'd like to
open?…

YOu should not only be able to see the items in said folder, but you should
also be given the option to open the folder in Finder rather than just seeing
it on the dock.

Also, pressing VO shift M will also bring up a menu of other options; open
should be one of them.

Best of luck and have a great weekend!…

Re: opening applications folder in the doc

2010-06-12 Thread Cara Quinn
  Hi Mary;

When in the dock, VO space or enter will open a folder or app. YOu can also
bring up a context menu with VO shift M which will have the 'open' option in it
as well.

I think I just missed the VO space option when responding to Chris and Mark!
oops!

Anyway, hope this helps. Have a great day!…

Re: opening applications folder in the doc

2010-06-12 Thread Mike Pedersen
Another thing that I find makes use of the applications, downloads, and
documents icons more useful is to do the following:
1. VO+shift+m on the doc icon that you wish to act upon
2. Make sure that folder and list are checked and be sure that stacks or fan
are not
After you do this you should find that pressing an up-arrow on these icons will
present you a list of whatever is in that particular folder.

Re: opening applications folder in the doc

2010-06-12 Thread Cara Quinn
Great tips Mike, but be careful of one of these.

Depending on where a user has the dock positioned, (left, right or bottom of
the screen) the arrow used to open the folder will be different. I.E. When the
dock is on the left, the right arrow will open the folder; when it's on the
right, the left arrow will open the folder. -And, as you say, when it's on the
bottom of the screen, the up arrow will open the folder. -The rule of thumb is
that the arrow that points to the middle of the screen will open the folder.

Personally, I just find it easier to either use VO space or enter. -And, if I
want a context menu, I just use VO shift M.

HOpe this helps!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Why go to the Dock to open the Applications or Documents folders? It's much
quicker to do Command-Shift-a for Applications, and Command-Shift-o for
Documents.

Command-Shift-u for Utilities is also useful.
