Re: Requesting Information on Checkwriting Apps

2019-06-15 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi, Mary:

You may want to consider getting away from checks at least partly,
meaning to whatever extend might be comfortable for you.

I'm suggesting you consider the relatively new service called Zelle,
especially if your bank is already a member of Zelle.

If it is a member you probably already have a feature on your bank's
phone app to allow you to securely and accessibly send money to anyone
else via their email address or mobile phone number.

This isn't the way to pay your electric bill, but you've likely already
figured how to do that without paper, envelopes, and stamps, and the
local postal mailbox.

Here's a web link to learn more:

https://www.zellepay.com/

Personally, I almost never use paper checks anymore. Frankly, the growth
of person to person payment services like Zelle, as well as services to
pay merchants like Apple Pay, PayPal, or the good old plastic
credit/debit card likely explains why there's less and less support for
trying to make handling paper payments accessible.

Good luck!

Janina

Re: Requesting Information on Checkwriting Apps

2019-06-16 Thread Mary Jo Partyka
Hi,

I never used the raised-line checks. Bank of America used to work with a
company called Deluxe Checking which provided customers with checks which were
the size of a piece of typing paper which a hole punched on the left side and
it made it easy to write checks. But they don’t work with this company any
more.

May I ask how you use bill pay to send money to non businesses? granted
you may have a different definition for the term and your bank may allow
for such going to personal accounts. still, I am following this thread

I have been a long-time user of the Talking Checkbook app but the
app isn’t really working well any more.  The program is actually
obsolete.  Are there any apps which would enableme to write out
checks?

2019-06-17 Thread Mary Jo Partyka
Hi, Karen,

When I started doing online banking in 2000, I had to give the bank a list of
my payees, whether business or personal, and write in all the necessary
information including, address, telephone number, account number etc. These
payees appear in the payment section of the website and I pay whoever I need to
by putting in the amount and when it should be paid. After I submit this
information, I will receive confirmation numbers showing that these bills have
been paid.

Re: Requesting Information on Checkwriting Apps

2019-06-17 Thread David Chittenden
Hi,

I stopped writing checks in 2003. I was banking with Wells Fargo at the time.
Any checks which I needed to write I set up in Bill Pay. I added all the
details and the bank sent the check on the day I scheduled.

Now, I do not need to have any checks sent. All of my utilities and such either
have direct bank transfers, or they receive credit cards. In some cases, the
fee for using the credit card is lower than the benefits (points or cash back)
which I accrue from using the card.

Re: Requesting Information on Checkwriting Apps

2019-06-18 Thread 'Bill Gallik' via MacVisionaries
On the Mac, I’m using an app named Checkbook Pro from Splasm Software. There
is a Checkbook Pro available for iDevices, but this is not connected with the
Mac version to the best of my knowledge. There are other iOS check writing
apps.
If you want to use the app to actually print filled out checks I must advise
that you’ll need full-sheet blank checks such as Quick Books checks. These can
be purchased through your bank or directly through Deluxe Checks but they are
rather expensive. I suppose this isn’t really a big deal if you only write a
few checks a month. You will likewise need the full-sheet blank checks if this
is for an iOS device.

I typically write out 4 to 6 checks a month to pay individuals who are not
quite as connected as electronic payments would require. I prefer to use
Checkbook Pro as a check register exclusively and use the check writing
templates available through many blind service organizations. Of course, there
are those folks that have no idea how to form letters and/or numerals so I
would imagine this would not be feasible for them.

One last point, the numbers that appear at the bottom of a check (Routing
Number, Account Number and I don’t know what the third sequence of numerals
represents) are printed on official checks with magnetic ink to facilitate
processing. This is why you cannot print out the entirety of a check from a
blank sheet of paper. Of course, I imagine those magnetic ink printers could
be purchased but I suspect the cost would be extremely prohibitive.

Thanks for the interesting information.
My bank still has a telephone banking bill pay option, which I use for
some items. Others like my land line use a credit card structure, still
on the phone. The one paper trail, with my land lord is still not a
check but a debit memo, sort of a money order but without a fee due to
my bank account type.

After I submit this
information, I will receive confirmation numbers showing that these bills have
been paid.

If it is a member you probably already have a feature on your bank's
phone app to allow you to securely and accessibly send money to anyone
else via their email address or mobile phone number.
This isn't the way to pay your electric bill, but you've likely already
figured how to do that without paper, envelopes, and stamps, and the

Personally, I almost never use paper checks anymore. Frankly, the growth
of person to person payment services like Zelle, as well as services to
pay merchants like Apple Pay, PayPal, or the good old plastic
credit/debit card likely explains why there's less and less support for
trying to make handling paper payments accessible.
Good luck!

Re: Requesting Information on Checkwriting Apps

2019-06-18 Thread Mary Jo Partyka
Hi, Bill

I have a Mac so I may consider downloading Check Book pro. I used to use
deluxe checking for my print sheets but they are not affiliated with Bank of
America any more. A friend of ours was able to provide me with checks that are
the full size of a full sheet of paper so this may work. I don’t write out
very many cchecks but I do write out some and would like to do it privately as
I have been doing.

Hi, David,

I use bill pay for most of my expenses but we got our kitchen fixed recently
which necessitated writing out checks for people who provided us with service
at that time.
