Interesting thought.

Guess for me it’s not costing anything more to have it running but I may have
uploads to my ftp server come in during the night

As for saety, everything in my network is behind the firewall and you need to
vpn if you want to conect to the ntwork from outside,
Even the ftp is now using ssl for security and currently only 2 people have
the details to connect to it.

restarting the router and booting the Mac, then starting VMware Fusion but

Re: Wi-fi Query

2018-06-07 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Another possibility is that both your router and your ISP are responding to
DHCP requests. If you expect your router to be handling DHCP then make sure of
the following:

1. Only one device is configured for DHCP on your LAN.
2. That broadcast ethernet packets on your lan do not get sent out beyond it.

That may be exactly it. I will delay the Mac startup a little more.
I can do a jig and them turn the Mac loose. :) Thanks Tim.

Hi,

Sounds like either your Mac was already on when the router started up, or the
Mac started up faster than the router. Two ways to stop that message are to
just restart the Mac so that it will get a new DHCP lease from the router, or
you can go into System Prefs, Network, then to the Advanced button. Select the
DHCP tab from here and press the "Renew DHCP Lease" button. This should clear
up any confusion.
