Re: numlock

2020-09-08 Thread Jonathan Cohn
OK, sorry late night and I need to go to sleep soon so I am being brief…
1. Open VO Utility and switch to the commanders panel.
2. Click the numpad tab in there.

In some cases, I think there might be a customize button that needs to be
pressed in other cases the customization table is just on that page directly.
Interact with the table and go to the third row which should say
3 no action
or something close to that.
Move over to the No action button and click on that to bring up a menu.
Type Nav to get to the Navigation sub-menu and then go down that menu until you
find
goto linked item
If you are a fast typist you should be able to type
"goto l” and it should get selected for you and then just hit return and close
voice over utility.

You might want to save your VO preferences in the file menu of voiceover
utility before chanign a lot of things there, then you have a way back to how
things were.
Good Night!!

Re: numlock

2020-09-08 Thread Jonathan Cohn
You can only turn off numpad commander with control-option clear. Even when
your VO key is the caps lock. I suspect this is a bug, and it is true in at
least three versions of MacOS.

Re: numlock

2020-09-08 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,

Numpad commander basic keys:
1. 0 modifier
1 bring up item chooser
2 Move VoiceOver cursor down.
3 (not bound to any function I bind it to the VO-J command )
4 Move VO cursor left
5 Activate current item
6 Move VO cursor right
7 Stop interacting with item
8 Move VO cursor up
9 Interact with item
clear Application chooser
[key next to clear ] same as vo-M
Plus contextual menu

0 with 1 previous link
0 with 2 next link
0 with 4 previous heading
0 with 5 next heading
0 with 7 next form field
0 with 8 next form field

I believe all of these keys can be reassigned with VO utility
There are also the ability to add shift, control, or option with numbedpad
keys.
For example, I have numbed enter set to route focus to VO cursor shift enter
set to route VO cursor to focus and control enter set to toggle cursor tracking.

There should be a move VO cursor one character command, though I think this
does not break through different components (sorry, I can't think of a better
way to explain).

Hope you find this worthwhile !

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: numlock

2020-09-08 Thread Pete De Vasto
Hi Lorie,

This is a tough one, and I’m not sure there’s a way to have the Numpad keys
behave exactly like the right-arrow key. I’ve done some experimenting, even
found something on the Apple site that talks about it, but it seems like the
only thing you can make those keys do is move the mouse pointer, not the
regular cursor. Check this link out:

https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/if-the-numeric-keypad-doesnt-work-mchlp2366/mac

Perhaps someone else on the list may have an idea.

2020-09-08 Thread Lorie McCloud
I don't know how the numpad commander works. what I'm trying to do is find a
work-around for my dead right-arrow key till I can get a new keyboard. do you
know how I would do that? I get numbers when I press those keys over there.

thanks.

Re: numlock

2020-09-08 Thread Pete De Vasto
Dan is right. On the Apple keyboards, if you have a sighted person looking, the
key is marked Clear. One other thing, though, Do you have Numpad commander
enabled? If so, that overrides the numlock. I disable Numpad commander, and got
numbers when I pressed the numbed keys. I was playing with it this morning, but
now I can’t get numlock to come back on! It doesn’t matter to me because I’m
using Numpad commander, and once I turned mine back on all went back to what I
am used to. I hope this is making sense.
