RE: Sharing a folder between my windows 7 and my mac

2017-10-08 Thread Simon Fogarty
You have to purchase it from them directly I believe,

Also you could reformat the external drive to Fat32
Which is both readable and writable by both windows and mac,
The only limitation is if files are larger than 4GB you wont be able to write
them to the fat32 drive structure,

Or format it as X Fat which again is readable by both mac and windows and has
no real issues I've found so far.

RE: Sharing a folder between my windows 7 and my mac

2017-10-08 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Ramy,

 Great you have paragon,

 The smtp is not correct,
You should be using SMB://machine name
SMB stands for Samba, you need this to connect to the windows environment.

 Also something to check on,
On the windows machine,

 In the windows explorer,
Go to your shared drive and right click to bring up the context menu,
Then go to properties,
Once in properties go to the share tab and check that you have the share giving
everyone access rights,
This is normally done under the share tab,
Advanced sharing,
Highlight the everyone user and then select full access.
Then click Ok, then once your back to the properties window tab back up to the
tab names and arrow over to the security tab and then tab down to the edit
option and enter on it,
Then in the list of possible users find Everyone if it is there,

If it's not there then click the Add button,
And in the search box type the word Everyone,
And then if you need to click on ok but it should be a case of type in the
word everyone and hit enter,
Then shift tab back to the list of users and find the everyone user and then
tab down to the list of rights,

If it's only you accessing this share from your mac I'd suggest checing the
Allow Full access, you just have to tap the space bar on that option,
Then keep tabbing down to the Ok button and hit enter,
Then again tab down to either ok or close,

Once you have both of these things configured you should be able to restart
your windows machine and again try connecting to the shared drive and then let
us know how you get on,

Good luck.

RE: Sharing a folder between my windows 7 and my mac

2017-10-06 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Ramy,

 Try putting
SMB:// at the start of your computer name that the shared drive is on,

The problem you may get here is that the mac wont write to a windows NTFS file
system
So unless your wifes windows computer is an xfat or fat32 file system you will
only be able to read from the windows side to the mac

But normally you will require a Samba connection that is the SMB:// to connect
/ work with the windows share.

 Hope this helps.

I hit Control+k, i found my PC name, i hit connect, i didn’t set a password, so

Re: Sharing a folder between my windows 7 and my mac

2017-10-05 Thread Erik Burggraaf
Your Mac requires that the windows account you are signing in to have a
proper username and password. You cannot use guest. You will need to make
sure you have a password setup on your Windows 7 user account, and that
your Windows 7 user account has full permission to access that shared
Drive. The sharing permissions have to be set up manually in the sharing
options of that folder.

Once you have that all set up, you may want to go and do some things behind
the scenes to make your Windows 7 machine start out with and requiring a
password.

Hope this helps, Eric
