Re: Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover

2010-11-10 Thread Joshua Loya
Yes, they will, but they will not appear in your in box, as long as you check
the skip in box check box when you create your filter. It is important to
remember that your all mail folder is not the same as your in box. GMail works
quite a bit differently than the way most people are used to mail services
working. Also, it is important to mention that everything I am saying is only
relevant if you are using imap, which is the only way I access all of my mail
accounts, unless I am logging into them directly via a web mail interface, or
SAMNet, in the case of my System Access account.

Hello. go to prefs when a message is open and go to rules and then go to
add. The reason I suggest that is some of the info is already filled in
 such
as the too and other fields you might want. Follow the prompts. what I
 usually do is this.

name of rule: what ever you want.

 contains

subject, or for this list to which is already filled.

move to what ever folder you want. create the folder before you create the
 rule though.

hit ok and if asked apply the rule.

 Hope this helps.

Joshua,

Okay, if I set up a new filter directly on Gmail and it automatically sets up a
corresponding mailbox on Apple Mail, will those messages still go into the All

Re: Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover

2010-11-09 Thread Joshua Loya
If you're setting up messages for GMail addresses, make your filters in GMail,
and the separate mailboxes will be created by default. You don't have to do
anything special with Apple Mail, as long as you set up everything correctly
with GMail.

You'll get there, take your time, you don't ahve to everything in one day, make
the switch a little at a time, and eventually it will become second nature. The
mac and voice over do things differently than windows and the windows screen
readers.

Re: Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover

2010-11-08 Thread Austin Seraphin
Perhaps someone already said this. To turn off a bunch of the "blank blank
blank" when reading mail:
1. Hit Vo-M and go to the View menu.
2. Arrow down to the Columns submenu.
3. Hit the right arrow and you will see checkboxes for all the things it can
show. Uncheck any that don't seem relevant. That will at least cut down on the
blanks.

Hello. go to prefs when a message is open and go to rules and then go to add.
The reason I suggest that is some of the info is already filled in such as the
too and other fields you might want. Follow the prompts. what I usually do is
this.

name of rule: what ever you want.

contains

subject, or for this list to which is already filled.

move to what ever folder you want. create the folder before you create the rule
though.

hit ok and if asked apply the rule.

Hope this helps.

Exactly. I usually hit the control key but most of the time I'm interacting
with the table and only the subject column and most of the time I still am
there so I just down arrow and hear the subject of the message.

Maybe this might help.

good luck.

hi,
notetakers have their place. you just have to remember what you want to do. for
example, if i want to load a bible on a notetaker to take to church or sunday
school, and pull up the verses, reading them in braille i can do that. that
would be a cumbersome process on a macbook air or any other computer based
model.

Re: Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover

2010-11-07 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hello Marlaina

TO actually answer your other questions. I'll just put them below so everyone
knows which ones I'm referring to.

>>> 1. When I open mail, it tells me 1 row added or 5 rows added over and over
>>> until all my mail is downloaded. Please tell me I can turn that off!
>>>
This is not a specific addition to Mail, but applies to all tables within Mac
OS X. Currently, you cannot turn this off, and I personally find it a useful
feature. You might consider writing to Apple's accessibility team
accessibil...@apple.com to suggest this.

>>> 2. Is there a key sequence I can use to add let's say one address from an
>>> email to my addressbook? For example, if I want to add macvisionaries, but
>>> not the sender from whom the message appears, how do I do that? My husband

>>> macvisionar...@gmail.com and then he clicked the triangle to the right
>>> which brought up a menu o choices which included copy address and add to
>>> addressbook. How do I do that using vo?
>>>
If you go to the TO: field within the Message headers text after interacting
with it, make sure the mouse is focused on the address as well in the To:
field. You can do this with VO-Command-F5. Sometimes it does not track
correctly, though you can verify this by hitting VO-F5. Now, hold down control
then physically click the mouse. That will bring up the choices. Same applies
to other fields like "From".

>>> 3. I'm reading a message and decide to keep it, but I don't want to move
>>> it; I want to leave it in my inbox for now. How do I close it and be
>>> returned to my inbox list of messages? Right now I do cmd-w then cmd-1 to
>>> reopen the inbox; I have to believe there is a better way!
>>>
The way you describe it, it sounds like you are using the preview pane to
review messages. In that case, simply hit VO-J to jump back to the inbox. If
you are not using the preview pane, hitting COmmand-W closes the window with
the e-mail you're reading. IF you view e-mails by thread, you will have to
close all windows with Command-Option-W, then hit Command-1 to open up the
inbox.

>>> 4. I've read the message and from within it, I press backspace to delete
>>> it. This takes me back to my list of messages in the inbox, but I hear all
>>> this verbiage about inbox table one row selected before I hear from whom
>>> the next message was sent or its subject. Can I make that stop?
>>>
Currently, you cannot do this. I don't see why you would want to, as it comes
in handy in other situations than mail such as when working with multiple
selections. However, you may want to suggest a feature like this one.

>>> 5. I am desperate for help in fining attachments; vo tells me there is one,
>>> but I can't seem to find it. I've done all sorts of itterations of turning
>>> long headers on, interacting with toolbar, interacting with message text,
>>> and the list goes on! It just escapes me!
>>>
When you attach a file or view attachments, it will sometimes put it at the
bottom. It is displayed as an image to VoiceOVer, or rather...that is the sound
VoiceOVer uses to indicate there is an attachment. If you receive an attachment
from a Mac user, you will probably notice that it can be placed anywhere that
their cursor was located when they attached the file. If it is a Windows user,
it will probably be placed at the bottom however, to save yourself a headache,
you can go to the message contents where there will normally be a disclosure
triangle you can expand to view the attachment, and next to that you can select
options for the attachments, and which ones to apply the action to. If you
don't manage to find this, you can go to the file menu and hit "Save
attachments".

>>> 6. I know what the attachment is and decide to save it. I go to file and
>>> save attachment and when the filename dialogue box comes up, it doesn't
>>> read the name of the file. Is there a way to hear that?
>>>
My VoiceOVer reads the attachment just fine including the name if I actually
move to the text field. If you have multiple attachments you wish to save, you
cannot change their names of course and no text field will appear. If you
VO-Shift-M on the attachment within the mail (if you manage to find it) you can
get options such as "Open attachment", "Open with", "Quick Look" etc. If you
find the popup I was talking about earlier right next to the "Message headers"
element, you can choose to save all or one at a time by hitting enter on their
names.

>>> I hope this was of some help to you. Good luck!

Nic

Ok, to find an attachment, go to the message headers by scrolling to the left

This popup button gives the option to save the attachment in your downloads

Re: Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover

2010-11-07 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Is there anybody on the list with a formal relationship with the apple folks?
It would be interesting to see how many of us would like to have voiceover just
shut up while we are getting our mail. It would be great if we could
communicate that desire to the accessibility team.

Re: Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover

2010-11-07 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Hurrah I got finding the attachment to work! One of you good folks (or maybe
more than one) told me to turn on the long headers and that did the trick.

I still cannot navigate to a particular name in a message that I want to add to
my addressbook, actually I can navigate there but nothing any of you have
suggested is working for me. I added Tim's suggestion to move the mouse cursor
but still nothing. I'm not giving up.

Apple mail has something called "data detector," which gives you the option to
interact with such info. If you arrow over to the address you want tot add,
then press vo-shift-m, you should bring up a contextual menu to do that. Also
you can try cmd-shift-y.

If you are using enter to gt into the message, and press cmd shift w, you
should automatically be winding up in the Inbox on your closed message, unless
you're hiding your preview pane. I always use cmd w and don't have to do
anything else.

 1. When I open mail, it tells me 1 row added or 5 rows added over and

 2. Is there a key sequence I can use to add let's say one address from an

returned to my inbox list of messages? Right now I do cmd-w then cmd-1 to

turning long headers on, interacting with toolbar, interacting with
message text, and the list goes on! It just escapes me!

Oops. Right. I stand corrected. I've been using a mac for almost two years.
Sorry about that.
Ok, to find an attachment, go to the message headers by scrolling to the left
past the messages table.
Now, you will see a popup button. A popup button is the equivalent to a combo
box in windows.
This popup button gives the option to save the attachment in your downloads
folder.

hello; i've found the simple answer is just to use command plus tab to
go to one of your other windows while the mail downloads. if you have
it set to play sound when its through, then you can then go back to
your mail window and you should be at your last read or first unread
message. hope that helps, max

I can't give you the specifics for this. But check in VO utilities under
verbosity.

The attachment appears as "slide show." If you click or do vo-space on that,
you can find your attachments.

I'll leave someone else to do a better job than I could on this.
Hope I've been a little help, phough.

• If you wish to just add the sender, press cmd-shift-y.
• You can also turn on the long headers, navigate to the Message Headers area,
Interact With it, navigate to the name of the person you wish to add, then
press VO-cmd-f5 to bring the mouse to the proper place, then press
VO-shift-space (must be with the shift), the menu you are looking for will
appear.

• If you just press return when to read the message then you should simply need

brought right back to your In-box.

navigate left to the Save menu item, press VO-space to activate and choose the
item to save.

Don't get into the self flogging too badly here. It's a different system to

Eventually you'll find there are at least two ways to accomplish most

simple work around. Once you start getting your mail, just command tab to
another application for a few moments while the mail downloads.

Re: Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover

2010-11-07 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Well, when I did that, I got the message properties; I mean when I interacted
with the headers then vo right to the email address then did vo shift space,
rather than the action menu I wanted, here's what I got. Now this isn't all
bad, since I have wondered how to see this info and now I know, but I still
want to solve this silly problem then get help on my other apple mail stuff.

You shouldn't have to press command 1 each time go back to the in box, ah, I
wonder if you have the mail boxes showing? Try going to the in box, then press
command shift m, and see if it says hide mail boxes. Now when you press command
w, it should take you back to the in box. There's no way that I know of to
prevent voiceover from telling you the rows are being added, but there's a
simple work around. Once you start getting your mail, just command tab to
another application for a few moments while the mail downloads.

2010-11-07 Thread Mary Otten
Ok Marlaina. Turn on long headers with command shift h. Press enter on the
message you want to read while in the messages table. Vo left to get to the
headers. Interact. Vo down and you should move from one header field to
another, with the to: field appearing after the subject line as memory serves.
I am actually not vo arrowing, because I have quicknav on. I love, love love
quicknav.

2010-11-07 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Mary, I totally agree with you. I will never give up my Apex; when I want
braille, I gotta have braille. When I am calling the roster of all ACB
affiliates at convention and being given delegate names on the fly, I gotta be
fast and furious. Also, when delegates change, I have to be quick about making
the change or I'd hold up the entire convention. It's about what is going to
work the most effectively for the situation I'm confronting.

Re: Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover

2010-11-07 Thread Eric Oyen
try vo shift down arrow. this will put you into interact with text mode.
from there, all the headers will be available.

I can find the reply-to headers and the from headers going this far, but vo
shift M doesn't open an options menu for me. so I am not sure how to add a new
address to the address book this way. since I have the mouse locked to the vo
cursor, I can right mouse click on the item and the menu appears.

after I am done, I vo shift up arrow to leave text interactive mode.

I'll answer your second question for now.berg wrote:

a: hit cmd shift h to show long headers and vo left to the headers list. Now go
to the too field and focus on the address Now hit vo shift space on the address.

Take care.

Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover

2010-11-07 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Hi folks.

Ok, I'll stop loving my Air and start learning again from so many of you who
are so kind to give your time and knowledge. I have a few situations using
apple mail I'd love to fix. Here goes.

1. When I open mail, it tells me 1 row added or 5 rows added over and over
until all my mail is downloaded. Please tell me I can turn that off!

2. Is there a key sequence I can use to add let's say one address from an
email to my addressbook? For example, if I want to add macvisionaries, but not
the sender from whom the message appears, how do I do that? My husband took
the mouse and put it on the to field, which was macvisionar...@gmail.com and
then he clicked the triangle to the right which brought up a menu o choices
which included copy address and add to addressbook. How do I do that using vo?

3. I'm reading a message and decide to keep it, but I don't want to move it; I
want to leave it in my inbox for now. How do I close it and be returned to my
inbox list of messages? Right now I do cmd-w then cmd-1 to reopen the inbox; I
have to believe there is a better way!

4. I've read the message and from within it, I press backspace to delete it.
This takes me back to my list of messages in the inbox, but I hear all this
verbiage about inbox table one row selected before I hear from whom the next
message was sent or its subject. Can I make that stop?

5. I am desperate for help in fining attachments; vo tells me there is one, but
I can't seem to find it. I've done all sorts of itterations of turning long
headers on, interacting with toolbar, interacting with message text, and the
list goes on! It just escapes me!

6. I know what the attachment is and decide to save it. I go to file and save
attachment and when the filename dialogue box comes up, it doesn't read the
name of the file. Is there a way to hear that?

Ok, those are my questions and I know they are many and basic. However, I
would be so grateful for any insight people can give me.
