Re: Looking for an accessible DVD ripper
Ahh, Apple DVD player is starting up when you put in the DVD. This is normal. I turned that autolaunch stuff off in system preferences under CDs & DVDs. There is a option called "When you insert a video DVD" which has a pop up button of options next to it, and one of those options is "Ignore". Even so, if you quit Apple's DVD player, ripIt should then give you the options to start copying the disk. I'm not familiar with iRip though and have only tried ripit. CB On 8/6/11 6:21 AM, Paul Erkens wrote: Hi Chris, Thanks for your response. When I insert a dvd into my machine with irip open, something else happens. Unfortunately it is not what you achieved and reported. On my machine, all that happens is that dvd player starts up. The irip window remains open, but even after closing the dvd player manually, it seems that irip doesn't see the disk in the drive. Do you have any idea if this is something I can correct? Generally the buttons you need appear in the window after a DVD has been inserted and mounted. The first thing will be the name of the folder which is usually the name of the DVD. You can rename this to anything you want. Next will be a RIP button, followed by an unlabeled button which is eject. After that is the compress button which shows up twice, first as an unlabeled button and then again as a button called Compress. Both do the same thing. I haven't played with Compress. CB On 8/4/11 1:58 PM, Paul Erkens wrote: Hi Chris, I just downloaded and ran irip. Getting out of the registration dialog that you land in at first, is a matter of going into the window menu and clicking the main window to focus it. However, how did you work with the rest? The toolbar gives no buttons. It's just an empty control that you can interact with, but then one can't do anything there. The rest of the interface looks really simple and promising though. The rest of the screen is uncluttered and barely contains anything more than a progress indicator. How do you rip a dvd yourself with it? Interested to hear. Regards, Paul. Re: Looking for an accessible DVD ripper
Hi Chris, Thanks for your response. >From holland, Paul. Sorry for the delay, had to find a DVD to try this with as it's been a while. It could also be that apps like ripit are trading in dangerous waters as it is officially illegal to break encryption even though you have the right to make backup copies. But without breaking the encryption (as feeble as it is) you can't exercise your rights to a backup. Thus the conundrum. Ripit probably just get away with it because it's not in the studio's best interest to expend the effort to chase this down. It's also why I never claim to have used the product :) CB On 8/4/11 1:41 PM, Paul Henrichsen wrote: Hi. I'm pleased that DVD remaster can at least be bought from the app store. Hi Chris, I just downloaded and ran irip. Getting out of the registration dialog that you land in at first, is a matter of going into the window menu and clicking the main window to focus it. However, how did you work with the rest? The toolbar gives no buttons. It's just an empty control that you can interact with, but then one can't do anything there. Re: Accessible DVD ripper for Paul
So, does the app store only sell the standard version? That's too bad if so. I have all this credit in the app store, but it seems every time I find a program that I want' It's not available in the store. I did download the trial, though. I'm just hoping I can buy the pro version in the app store. Thanks to all of you guys for your help. It's so neat to have a program like this that is accessible. There was nothing in windows which was accessible. Re: Accessible DVD ripper for Paul
On another note. Is there a DVD ripper program that will allow you to merge multiple DVD's? What I mean is, what if you have a box set, or a mini serious, will it allow you to put 3 DVD's in one file? Re: Accessible DVD ripper for Paul
Hi Paul and Allison, DVD Remaster is available from both the Mac App store and the developer's web site: http://www.metakine.com/products/dvdremaster/ If you get this from the Mac App store, I believe that you are directed back to the web site to get the Fairmount program. The web site also lets you download a free trial version of the software. Note that at present purchasing through the developer's web site and purchasing through the Mac App store are two different processes. The Mac App store doesn't provide for trial downloads and additional files. However, the process of automatic update is simpler. You might want to download the trial, then delete it and purchase from the Mac App Store if you decide to get DVD Remaster. Handbrake is also accessible, and free. Most review comparisons I've read state that you get substantially faster rips if you use DVD Remaster. Also, if you want separate audio extraction, you want the Pro version $49.99 vs. $39.99), which I believe is what is sold in the Mac App Store. HTH. Re: Looking for an accessible DVD ripper
DVD Remaster is accessible and works well, but it won't rip protected DVDs, which happens to be most movies you purchase and want to put into iTunes. :( Brett C. Re: Looking for an accessible DVD ripper
Hi Paul, Check out dvd remaster. This program should do what you want and is very accessible. I'm not sure how much it is because when I bought the program it was on sale for 90% off the list price. Looking for an accessible DVD ripper
Hi, guys. I am looking for an accessible DVD cloning program like Handbrake. I want to convert DVD's to m4v files I can copy to my iPhone. If handbrake is accessible, that's great; but is there a better one? I'd also like a program which will clone the DVD so I can have a backup and put the original away for safe keeping. I have clone DVD and Clone DVD mobile along with Any DVD HD from slysoft for windows, but they are totally inaccessible under windows. Is there something similar to the slysoft programs that is accessible on the mac? Thanks. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
