Merry Christmas!

2014-12-25 Thread CHUCK REICHEL
Merry Christmas from the Reichel's! :)
We Hope this Christmas greeting finds you in good health and at peace!
And with a shiny new Apple in your hand! ;)

Luke 2:10-14 KJV

10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good
tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is
Christ the Lord.

12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in
swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host
praising God, and saying,

14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Yeshua Ha-Mashiach

The reason for the season!

With Love from the Reichel's!

-Chuck, Robin, and Kimberly :)

New Macbook Air for Christmas

2016-10-03 Thread christopher hallsworth
Hello everyone.

Well just thought to let you know that for Christmas I will be treating myself
to the new 11 inch Macbook Air with base configuration: 4 GB RAM, 1.6 GHZ
processor with turbo boost up to over 2 GHZ, Intel Core i5, 128 GB pcie-based
flash storage. Since I have an old, but very much usable, 13 inch Macbook Pro
this should suit me fine.

Re: New Macbook Air for Christmas

2016-10-03 Thread Alex Hall
If you can, try to get 256GB instead of 128GB. I've used a 64GB, and my sister
currently has a 128GB. The space just isn't as much as you'd think; a couple
movies or a season of a TV show and suddenly you're getting the "startup disk
is almost full" warning all the time. It's just me, but I'd increase the
storage if at all possible.

Screen size doesn’t bother me since I am a full time VoiceOver user. My Macbook

Re: New Macbook Air for Christmas

2016-10-17 Thread E.T.

Scott,
When did Apple switch to non removable memory and does this apply to
all Mac models?

I have a mid 2012 which I upgraded to 16 but at the time did not
know I could go higher.

At this point, if I do anything, it would be an SSD drive.

Hi E.T, I would highly recommend the SSD upgrade. Will make a massive
difference.

On the memory side, I believe it was 2013 when the change took place. The

I have a TB drive running and it’s blazingly fast.

I wonder about the memory as well. The Mac Pro can be upgraded considerably
maybe that’s the product they want to move but you’d think they would give more
memory options to the laptops.

Re: New Macbook Air for Christmas

2016-10-17 Thread Scott Granados
I have replaced a standard with an SSD and it makes a huge difference in
performance as well as voiceover. One important thing as well, remember as
time passes on the mechanical hard drives the data becomes less and less
contiguous. This is why reformatting and restoring once in a while makes a
difference.

SSD doesn’t do this either.

   It will be a while before I have a spare $249. :(

Have wondered about this. Windows offers a defrag tool which I used

it someday and use Carbon Copy Cloner.

RE: New Macbook Air for Christmas

2016-10-18 Thread Simon Fogarty
I’m kind of thinking that I'll go the 2012 mac book pro and up the ram and hd
to an ssd and just put up with the 2.5 ghz processor,

Oh and the weight gain in the mbp 2012.

I have a TB drive running and it’s blazingly fast.

I wonder about the memory as well. The Mac Pro can be upgraded considerably
maybe that’s the product they want to move but you’d think they would give more
memory options to the laptops.

Memory limitations aside, I’m very very happy with my mid 2015 MacBook pro. It
does very well with virtual environments and performs very well on just about
everything I can throw at it. Upgradable no but I could see it lasting and
being usable for quite a while.

2016-10-19 Thread E.T.

Scott,
Something that occurred to me here is that Voiceover speaks elements
its still focused on until a new app or window is opened.

In other words, say I boot up and wait a while, then open Finder. VO
does not immediately refocus quickly, it will speak what it is still
focused on a desktop item. Would this be improved on with an SSD?

Now this may not be related as its new in Sierra. When I close
Finder, VO will speak the first item on the desktop 3 times. I have not
seen this when closing other apps.

VO can be too verbose for me. Its set to medium. Low is too little.
high is too much.

The one thing I get repeatedly is the system log in messages. I’m using a
watch to unlock though so that could be why.

I’m not sure about the other issue you raise. SSD drives just make things load
faster, much faster so reading form the disk is much more efficient. That’s
the best way to think of it.

Charging the Watch, was: Re: My early Christmas Gift from Apple

2015-12-20 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Cait,

I'm glad you mentioned about charging. Can you describe to me what I'm gonna
get in the box, and how the charging process works? I hear that it's basically
a cable which has USB on one end, and a circular round little contraption on
the other end. Basically, where I am confused is, how do I actually sit the
watch on the charger? Is it basically a magnet that allows the bottom of the
watch face to go on the charger?

I don't have to remove the band to charge it, do I, as with my fine motor
skills not being very good at all, I think changing out the bands or
remove/attaching them is going to be very very very difficult for me. Thank
goodness the milanese band I'm getting is going to already be attached.

I showed my mom a Youtube video of a guy unboxing the thing, and she agrees
that removing and connecting the band would be extremely difficult for me to do
on my own, but just getting the watch on my wrist and getting it clasped shut,
she feels looks ridiculously easy. She agreed that for me, the milanese was an
excellent choice.

Chris.

Re: Charging the Watch, was: Re: My early Christmas Gift from Apple

2015-12-22 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
OK, I see that. I'm having a little bit of an awquard time getting the dome on
the end of the cord to line up with the bottom of the watch face though.
Remember, I have the milanese band with the 38MM stainless steel. I'm finding
what's happenning is, the band is getting in my way and therefore making it
slightly difficult. I'm basically having to slide the metallic part of the
cable through the band, as if it were my wrist, then kind a clasp the two
parts, the watch and the cable, together. It definitely works, but it just a
little weird feeling having that band always getting in my way. Yeah, I could
remove it, but with me having mild CP in my hands, I don't have the best fine
motor skills, and therefore removing and connecting bands is going to be
impossible for me. Trust me, my mom and I tried to see if I could do it on my
own, and I was unable to do so independently. Otherwise, I'd just remove the
thing when charging, but for me, that's not gonna be ideal.

It's OK, I just didn't know if there may be an easier way.

What I'm basically doing is lying the watch screen face down on my night stand,
then as I said, holding the band open with one hand, and with the other hand,
I'm fishing the cord through the band loop, then moving it over to the bottom
of the watch. If I don't go through the band loop like that, then the band
covers the bottom of the watch face, making it be in the way, as it's coverring
the bottom metal dome, if that makes any sense.

Chris.

Cait,

I'm glad you mentioned about charging. Can you describe to me what I'm
gonna get in the box, and how the charging process works? I hear that it's
basically a cable which has USB on one end, and a circular round little
contraption on the other end. Basically, where I am confused is, how do I
actually sit the watch on the charger? Is it basically a magnet that allows
the bottom of the watch face to go on the charger?

You know, George, I tried feeling that, but I couldn't for the life of me feel
any difference. That said, I have color preception, and one side is mirror
silver, while the other is solid white. The side that needs to touch your
watch is the mirror silver. So, that's how I do it. I know that may not work
for a lot of you guys though.

I did hear that, but my issue was I find that some times, I get it a bit
crooked, and it goes on and dings, but then the slightest movement, and it
stops charging. It usually takes me 2 or 3 tries to get it totally lined up
evenly. It's a little bit annoying, but it does work. That's the good

2015-11-29 Thread John Panarese
I’ve had the pleasure and honor of meeting him several times while I was a
vendor. He is actually a very nice and down to earth guy with a great sense of
humor. I don’t subscribe to his political views at all either and have always
made it a point not to discuss anything along those lines with him because I
know we don’t share the same beliefs on several issues. As a person, though, he
is a true gentleman and having spent time in his studio and him once coming to
my house are memories that will always be the most appreciated and cherished
from my twenty years in adaptive tech retail. The first time my father ended up
in the hospital and then when my mother did as well, he sent flowers and a card
on both occasions. ON top of that, he also called me more than once to find out
how they were doing and genuinely cared.

Agreed!
Super nice guy.
After a mutual friend introduced me to Stevie in 2004 we became friends, I
asked him if he could reach out to Avid and in just 3 days Avid emailed us
about Accessibility being restored for the blind mac pro tools engineers in the

In 2006 He was instrumental in getting Pro tools back on the Avid radar!
BTW
He's a very strong "CHRISTIAN" Believer also! :)

I’ve heard this as well. I have a friend who runs in to him periodically in
