optimizing windows VM in fusion

2013-08-11 Thread Phil Halton
I have an I7 dual core processor and 8 GB of ram on my MBA. Fusion has
alotted 1 core and 2GB to the Windows7 VM as the default setup. Is
there any significant improvement in performance if I were to increase
the ram alottment, say, to 3GB? Actually, the performance is fine,
just a little JAWS choppiness now and then.

I am only using the VM for office applications with JAWS, some
internet browsing, and that's about it for now. changing the ram will
require a JAWS reauthorization, so I want to hear from others
experience before I do so.
Thanks

Re: optimizing windows VM in fusion

2013-08-11 Thread Kliphton
I use jaws and windows for the same thing, as I have to run my business from
home. But I use 4 gigs of ram, and experience no choppyness. Remember, office
from 2007 and above, needs at least 1 gig of ram to perform properly, and jaws
another gig. So that may be where your choppyness is coming int. I have 16
gigs of ram, so have a lot more to use, but if all you use is office and a
little IE, then moving it to 3 or 4 shouldn't be an issue. I understand your
hesatation because of the authorization. Just tell them you had to install
more ram for beter performance, they will give you another activation. Just
don't tell them your running windows in fusion, cause then they will not help
you. HTH!

Re: optimizing windows VM in fusion

2013-08-12 Thread Phil Halton
Hi Kliphton, When looking at the VM settings for processor and memory, the
numbers there don't add up. For instance, I have a i7 with 2 cores in my
MacBook Air, but I have the option to select 1, 2, or 4cores. For memory, I
have 8 GB, but settings report that 2048 mb = 21%, and 3072 mb (3gb) = 41.5%. I
don't know if the percent figure is relevant . is it supposed to be the
percentage of total memory? so, I would expect to see 50% equaling 4096 mb
(4gb).
Should I just assume that typing in 3072 (3gb) will be 3 of my 8 gb and ignore
that percent figure?

Thanks for any advice.
