Re: the new iPad 9.7"

2017-04-04 Thread Alex Hall
For those considering the Mini over the iPad 5, remember that the Mini is less
powerful and more expensive. The only Mini option is $399 for the 128GB
version, while the iPad 5 starts at $329 for 32GB. Yes, for the same storage,
the 5 is more expensive, but if you only need 32GB you can save money and get a
more powerful device. Just something to keep in mind, especially for iOS
updates in the years to come.

Yeah it’s a new entry level device,
Lighter and cheaper other than that I would go with the mini 4 again,

Or even better an iPad Pro Mini
Now that I’d really go for,

Only thing is that I found it bloody difficult tryng to write with a pen /

Hi. The screen is a bit of a downgrade as it’s the same quality as the one on
the iPad Air. I wouldn’t purchase this model as it is fragile and far from
being solid. The Pro line is a better option or stick to the Air 2.

The reasons I can see are:

* They were able to rename it to the iPad, thus simplifying the iPad lineup

* They upped the CPU, from the A8X of the Air 2 to the A9.

* They made some changes to the screen and body, letting them lower the price
to offer a more compelling entry-level tablet

The reasons I can see are:

* They were able to rename it to the iPad, thus simplifying the iPad lineup

* They upped the CPU, from the A8X of the Air 2 to the A9.

* They made some changes to the screen and body, letting them lower the price
to offer a more compelling entry-level tablet

The new iPad also has the m9 which I’m not sure about the pro. The pro needs a

I believe they are really pointing this towards institutional buyers much like
the eMac of old. Make it not quite as light, and not as great at graphics, but
I believe the education price is $299.

I have seen a few school boards move from using iPads to using Chrome Books.
Chromium appears to be at least as secure as IOS and one gets a keyboard
bundled in albeit not a keyboard I enjoy typing on.

Best Wishes,

Hi Scott,

No chance it bytes in to pro line,

The specs are far lighter in the new 5,
Mind you I'd kind of like to see a pro in the mini size.
And no matter what product they need to bring the pricing down.

RE: the new iPad 9.7"

2017-03-29 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Alex,

Yeah those are the only things I could really see.

Processor as the a9 is still behind the iPhone 7x processor but think the a10
is in the pro iPads,

Better screen slightly lighter and I wasn’t sure for a start but is the price
really down slightly?

Here in nz the 5 128 GB models are: 699 for wifi,
919 for wifi / cellular
 Still bloody costly,

I’m happy currently with my mini 4
Would bein heaven if I could rdp in t o my windows machines and macs for that
matter with speech access.

I’ve heard great things about chrome but not used it myself so can’t directly
comment.

Somethings off hand I know chrome does better for example is includes cellular
access in the Chromebook line. Why the hell I can’t get internal cellular LTE
access in my MacBook just baffles me. I’ve got all sorts of WiFi, wired ports
for gigabit access, very good bluetooth and no LTE, really? Apple wants me to
use that hotspot feature that badly they won’t give me internal always on
access? I say bah!

Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine.

I believe they are really pointing this towards institutional buyers much
like the eMac of old. Make it not quite as light, and not as great at
graphics, but I believe the education price is $299.

I have seen a few school boards move from using iPads to using Chrome
Books. Chromium appears to be at least as secure as IOS and one gets a
keyboard bundled in albeit not a keyboard I enjoy typing on.

The main reason seems to be that they wanted to compete with cheaper
tablets. The camera is eight megapixel instead of 12 for example...

I think it's a good idea as you have tablets like the fire and fire
hdx etc dominating that below $350 pricepoint for the most part.

Re: the new iPad 9.7"

2017-03-28 Thread Alex Hall
The reasons I can see are:

* They were able to rename it to the iPad, thus simplifying the iPad lineup

* They upped the CPU, from the A8X of the Air 2 to the A9.

* They made some changes to the screen and body, letting them lower the price
to offer a more compelling entry-level tablet
