[maemo-developers] handy usb networking scripts
i've been playing with my 770 with the standard nokia distribution instead of the developer rootstrap, and with a few tweaks i've found i can develop and copy files across, so i thought i'd share these very simple scripts since they've saved me a lot of faffing about... usbnet.sh - script to unload storage module and replace with ethernet module, thereby getting usb networking going on the "standard" platform. i believe you still need to set r&d mode with flasher... (note that usb networking works fine with mmc inserted, contrary to official documentation) filestore.sh - script to make mmc visible again and switch off usbnet cheers, Adam -- Adam Laurie Tel: +44 (0) 20 7605 7000 The Bunker Secure Hosting Ltd. Seriously. The maemo.org site is great, the sandbox development is great, but... Until you can get your hands on a device, particularly if you're interested in hardware related things you can't even do your evaluation of the suitability of the product until you can get your hands on one. RE: [maemo-developers] Maemo and Independent software vendors orcommercial software vendors
Absolutely! I have joined in the developer program because I am a hobby hacker of embedded devices (which explains why I work for a company that engineers and programs embedded devices). My reasons for wanting to work with and improve the 770 are personal, but I could easily see my company utilizing these devices if they are proven worthy. That is the key. The longer it takes people to get one into their grubby hands, the longer it is going to take for niche markets to see the value (or have any input). [maemo-developers] WLAN problem with Nokia and FritzBox
Hi Tim and all, > one lead i have, though, is, that dmesg says > sm_drv_transmit: sm_frame_tx returned error -10 with the mail from Tim quoted below I think we have enough technical information to ask this issue to the developer list. Hopefully there is someone who can help us. Sorry for that crossposting, but I think we've left the user level in our evaluation. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Good point, Tim, you came one step further than me. Additionally I found out one thing: If you configure the FritzBox to use one (1) IP network address for all interfaces (usb, LAN, WLAN), then the connection with the N770 works. So I first thought that there is something wrong with the Fritzbox. But after further evaluation I am quite sure that bug is at the Nokia 770 side. This is, what I found out: The Nokia 770 netstat -r gives: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 192.168.182.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 wlan0 default 192.168.182.2 0.0.0.0 UG0 0 0 wlan0 Another Linux PC, which is working fine in the WLAN gives: Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 192.168.182.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 ath0 default fritz.fonwlan.b 0.0.0.0 UG0 0 0 ath0 (fritz.fonwlan.b seems to be the resolved name of the fritzbox IP 192.168.182.2). The ifconfig-settings are also identical at Nokia and PC. But the statistics in the Nokia shows: RX packets:64 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:5 errors:46 dropped:2 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 Thats what I see - the N770 can't transmit any data. From the router side I can ping the PC and get answers. If I ping the Nokia, nothing returns, but the Rx Counter goes up. Further information in the mail quoted below: On Tue, 01 Nov 2005 20:08:34 +0100 Tim Johann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Hi all, Lucky me I am one of the nokia770 owners. I am quite impressed by this piece of hardware - only I have a real bad problem: As some others (first and second), I have problems connecting to the Internet via my FritzBoxFon WLAN (a DSLmodem/router). I.e., after connection to the router the nokia 770 will not send any packets to the router (while obviously receiving packets). Pinging the router will not succeed (no packs sent), though i can ping a notebook connected to the same WLAN. one lead i have, though, is, that dmesg says sm_drv_transmit: sm_frame_tx returned error -10 After searching the web for the code in question (obviously part of the prism wlan drivers, see XH8196--devo--0--patch-10/module/sm_drv.c). The value -10 is returned by a call to prism_softmac_frame_tx() and seems to be the #define of SM_EDSTUNKN (destination unknown??! See (XH8196--devo--0--patch-10/umac/softmac2.h). I don't know where i can find the definition of prism_softmac_frame_tx(), maybe only available as part of the firmware (in umac/). has anybody a clue what could be the problem with the connection if such an error occurs? greets, t1m ___ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers

You have chosen sbrsh as the "target CPU emulation" method, is your ARM CPU transparency device working correctly? I mean, if you compile code for ARM, can you run it? In general, qemu is much nicer as it doesn't need any target CPU device. You need to use sbrsh method only if qemu target CPU emulation fails or you're compiling for a CPU architecture which qemu doesn't emulate. - Eero ___ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers
