Re: [maemo-developers] wlan monitor mode

2006-02-16 Thread Bernhard Baase
Hi,

I've also tested the aireplay suite. The problem, why the tools are not
really running, is that the driver must be patched to be able to send
packets in monitor mode. For i386 environments most common driver
projects like mad-wifi or prism54.org had integrated that feature to
their drivers. I had read into it but had to find out that my C and
wifi harware knowledge isn't enough at the moment for implementing
this. Also I havn't found your module sources for the cx3110x in the
repository.

Is it closed source?? Where to find it?

The prism54 team for example had to reverse enginere the protocol
between UMAC(the binary) and LMAC(embedded wifi ARM CPU) by
investigating the chip behaviour. As I expect that nokia has
bought some thousand chips at conexant I think you will have the
firmware and protocol specification and will be perhaps able to
implement it quite easy. It would be a great feature if you can
do this. I will try to find the driver patches from the prism54
project. Perhaps it isn't that magic to implement it.

In monitor mode, the WLAN chipset is running at full power, of course. So,yes, your battery will last about 3 hours if you keep on sniffing 802.11packets. Why doesn't iwconfig work noramlly while the device is in monitor
 mode?Because my code sucks.Cheers,Samuel.___maemo-developers mailing listmaemo-developers@maemo.org

A bit late now, but if you need ogg and vorbis under maemo, the libs and tools
compile and run well as is. Just download the sources from xiph.org (libogg,
libvorbis and vorbis-tools should do it).

You'd want to use tremor for the decoding, since the 770 doesn't have an
 FPU.

Also on the information track, the Tremor plugin in GStreamer 0.10 works
fine on the 770.

 Dear friends,

last night hildon-lgpl passed away :(

After long discussions, we created hildon-gpl3 (No, joking.)

The historical hildon-lgpl is now merged into hildon-libs.

Expect more changes into hildon-libs in the coming days.

Luc,
It would be nice to have a wiki page which provides a kind of porting
instructions due to these changes, e.g
- change in automake scripts etc due to change in package names
- changes to include files

We still provide a dummy hildon-lgpl package requireing hildon-libs, to
preserve compatibility
A few other changes are planned for the coming weeks, adding new APIs,
we will provide then migration instructions.

If you have any problem, please report in this thread, thanks!

Also the impact on language bindings like C++/hildon bindings, python
bindings etc

They need synchronization, but impact is minor because it is basically
just a package name change. All widgets remain the same, no API change.

BTW GPL3??? isnt that still in draft proposal stage?

You are right, but we thought that it is the right licence because the
lib is draft too.
Draft licence for draft software, make sense, no ? (*)

Devesh

For the ones who like to play with the latest source, stay
synchronized!

Is there any ETA on the new APIs and such? I'll have some time in the
next weeks to update the maemo 1.0RC bits in OpenEmbedded to a recent
'release', but as I'm lazy I want to do it right the first time :).

Interesting. So what exactly can I do to let the n770 video and audio
player recognize ogg vorbis audio data?
