Yes. Personally, I'd like to use Postgres, for Glom.

libgda relays its functionality in the driver. So, if libgda is ported
it will required, at least, a specific driver to connect a database
(in this case MySql).

So, you don't use ssh. But still, it doesn't accept my stage.maemo.com
password. I checked that I remember my password correctly by
successfully changing it here:

It doesn't seem to work. I can check it out, but I can't do a
svn commit
It asks for a password (not a ssh passphrase), which it doesn't do when
I commit in contrib/.

[maemo-developers] Text to speech for maemo

2006-04-21 Thread Moises Martinez
Hi all,
I've developed a D-BUS service and a FliteWidget for flite text to speech code
in order to give developers an opportunity to integrate a speeching system
into his maemo apps.

There is a proof of concept with gaim to show what developers can do.

here you can download patches and debs:

http://moimart.org/2006/04/21/flite-v-gaim/

It's still buggy and not so much optimized.
If anybody is interested in collaborating, any help would be appreciated. :)

Well, maybe, but there are plenty of licences that can be used for media distributions e.g. Creative Commons for a start
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons last viewed 21 April 2006).  And those are suitable for fonts, images etc.

It doesn't help when you need to include external 3rd party applications such as Opera, but any media content developed explicitly for Maemo would be improved by their use.

All fine and dandy, except the agreement makes no provisions for the
differing licenses. The GPL and LGPL gives me explicit legal
permission to copy, distribute and/or modify those libraries and
programs, whether sources or in object code. The agreement is trying
to restrict what I can do with the GPL and LGPL software in this
compressed image, which is a breach of those licenses.

And the data files; fonts, graphics, sounds etc.

Even the Linux desktop Vera font doesn't have (L)GPL licence, nor
do the new SIL fonts because (L)GPL doesn't apply that well to
non-source code stuff:

http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsi&item_id=OFL

Btw. For fun, you might try discussing with RMS about GPL licence and
3D modeled images like I did. POV 3D model descriptions are program
code as POV implements a programming language with variables, functions,
loop constructs etc. (the fun part is that POV itself is not GPL
compatible). Many people don't seem to understand what the GPL licence
for my Solarwolf gfx files means (if you use the gfx, you need to provide
the 3D model sources too):
