The point of the devel rootstrap is to be able to build software.
So, SDK contains additional build dependencies for the target SW.
Most of the additional build deps are for the -dev packages,
but I think non-dev build deps also exist for some of the target
packages.

I did a quick Google search and a little known fact is that the 802.11 spec
requires only an 11Mbps max rate for both B-mode and G-mode. Products can
exceed this of course, but many don't. This is, AFAIK, purely a driver issue
for modern wireless hardware. I had an old Belkin wireless-G CardBus card
laying around, and it uses the rt2500 driver, which appears to allow this
behavior via a special setting (they call it "violating" the spec which
doesn't seem right given what I've read). So is there any way I can go 54Mbps
with the cx3110x driver on the 770 in ad-hoc mode? Is this possible with the
islsm driver? (which I would like to get working for multiple reasons now)

[maemo-developers] 802.11g Ad-Hoc Link?

2006-07-06 Thread Andrew Barr
It occurred to me that the fastest way to transfer data to the 770 is over an
ad-hoc 54Mbps link. However, it looks to me like the WLAN driver is going
into 802.11b (11 Mbps) mode when I set up an ad-hoc network. How can I switch
54Mbps mode back on? "iwconfig wlan0 rate 54" gives an invalid argument
error, and there are no private ioctls that seem to do what I want. The
laptop at the other end of the link is using an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG
card with the latest release of the ipw2200 Linux driver. Any help would be
appreciated.

AFAIK only libs that are *really* REALLY needed by the default
programs get on the images. Which is understandable since the flash is
not too big anyway.

For the SDK, disk space is not an issue and there can be a more
comprehensive set of libraries, for convenience. The libs should be
available through the maemo repository for depending in your
packaging, right?

Because they are normally used for session management (and general
inter-process communication), but the maemo platform uses dbus for
session management. You are right, if you don't have that session
management on the device the SDK should not have it, too. Perhaps a
simple packaging problem or some other tools in the SDK need them!?

> Does your program really use/require libXt?Could be, but specifically in my case, mozilla does depend on them (for rendering stuff), and the checking at configure time is also a bit complex. So the dependecy is no at build time only but also at run-time. Anyways , I intend to ask on a mozilla mailing list about how hard would be removing such dependency ?
The problem is the "AC_PATH_XTRA()" configure test. It defines the

X_PRE_LIBS variable, which - from the documentation - containslibraries, which must be linked before you link the "regular" X11libraries. The configure scripts for at least debian and maemodistributions returns "-lSM -lICE" for this variable. Configure scripts
which try to be correct and portable and thus use this variable willautomatically link against this libraries - even if they do not usethem. I removed the use of X_PRE_LIBS temporary to avoid linking this
libraries.
Note also that recent versions of Xorg offer pkg-cocnfig *.pc files forthe various X11 files. I plan to use them if available and fall back toAC_PATH_XTRA if not. These *.pc files do not show above behaviour of
automatically adding -lSM and -lICE.I do not have any problem with libXt.still wordering why are these libraries available on devel

Interesting. I also experience auto power on. For example: Every
evening I turn my 770 off before going to bed. I know it was off as I
checked this morning before I left the house. When I got to work I
pulled the 770 out of my pocket and there it was on. This isn't the
first time this has happened. No it was not turned on in my pocket. I
have turned it off at night and come back in the morning and it has been
on, very weird. I have set an alarm before but don't have one set now
unless once you set it the 770 never ever goes off again:-(

To be clear, this happens while the device is shutdown and the cover is

Well, first I would guess that those people would be better off with a
regular BT headset. The 770 is not that well suited to be used as free
speaking device. Or even better real free speaking thingy with sperate
LCD and buttons for call accept/deny could IMHO be better.

But anyway...
Even if you would like to have something like that with the 770 it would
still not be possible (at least up to now) since not only the HSP
profile is missing but most importantly the SCO link is missing. SCO is
the Bluetooth syncronous PCM transport for PCM data like voice. For SCO
most Bluetooth chipsets provide two methods for transport, either going
through the HCI (host controller interface) or via a seperate PCM
hardware channel.
For the bluetooth chipset in the 770 nothing is know how SCO-PCM is
routed (HCI or PCM) nor is the HCI commandset needed to control the SCO
known. Only known to work Linux supported Bluetooth chipsets with SCO
are the ones from CSR, the inventors of the first Bluetooth single chip
solution and kind sponsors/helpers with the Linux Bluetooth stack.

So buttomline... in theory it is possible but not now, not tomorrow and
probably never will be.
