Uh-huh, not recommended. Not only is the device left without internet
connectivity dialogs but also has no means of requesting a Bluetooth PIN
code from the user after that.

Anything is of course possible. If it breaks you get to keep both
pieces :-).

Yes, I would be interested if this is a result of actual hardware limitations
or some hard-coded (or otherwise) limit in one of the binary blobs for the

This was answered on the Week 41 list.

Hi,
Due to some constraints on the DSP side, this can't be changed right
now. So for the dsppcmsrc and also the alsasrc on the device the
sampling rate for recording s is limited to 8 kHz. This is not a limit
of GStreamer 0.8 or 0.10.

As I was one of the interested parties in that conversation, thanks
for the reply, Stefan .
I hope this means that it can be fixed with a firmware update rather

be increased in future N770 OS releases.

[maemo-developers] Re: Unresolved issues (Week 43)

2006-10-30 Thread Matan Ziv-Av

Let me answer this, based on my understanding with OMAP1/2, eventhough
I am not the developer of flasher.
What flasher tries to do is to establish USB level communication with
the hardware/OMAP1 chip and can do cold flash, when the device has
nothing on it. At this time it has to use ROM code (might be
properitery by Texas Instruments), for establishing USB level
communication details.

So, in the Linux-OMAP community we have not seen bootloaders/utilities,
which does the (cold)flashing using USB link. For TI developed EVMs, it
provides Win32 binary only utilities like CSST to flash the
signed/unsigned images (like u-boot image) using serial port or USB as
a medium of transfer.

That's not exactly correct. There is a GPL tool, omapfl, that
flashes bare 5912 thru USB. Of course, the 1710 might have completely
different ROM.

In the 5912 there is an external pin that selects booting from internal
ROM (for USB flashing) or from flash (for normal operation), so I am not
sure this is what the nokia flasher does.

There is a system-wide setting to launch the thumb keyboard on the
select key press: Tools->Control panel->Text input settings->Finger, the
checkbox marked "Launch via rocker key".

There's no API for choosing the type of keyboard. If you want both the
normal select key shows/hides the virtual keyboard behavior, as well as
the thumb keyboard showing on a longer press, you have to hack it. Check
the included example, it fakes the user jabbing the text widget with his
finger after holding the select key pressed for one second.
